Judy Pugh was in her Tuscaloosa, Alabama home when a massive tornado -- one of many to devastate the region -- ripped through her neighborhood on April 27. In this video, Pugh tells CBS42 News how a wall pinned her to ground as the twister carried her roof away. She believes that very wall may have saved her life. Although her home was destroyed from the vicious storm, two of Pugh’s cats made it out alive. Her third cat was never found in the weeks following the disaster. While the CBS42 cameras are rolling, something entirely unexpected happens. As one news anchor says, «There are moments that can only be described as miraculous.»

The woman had also been suspended by a western Kentucky district in 2006 for the same reason. In a statement, Missouri's Parkway School District says the teacher told her principal on Friday about her porn work and that a student had approached her about it. The district says it granted her request to be placed on administrative leave for the rest of the school year.

The district is not releasing the teacher's name, but multiple media outlets reported she is Parkway North High School science teacher Tera Myers. Her phone rang unanswered Tuesday.

Bubble gum factory in Havertown set for demolition Wednesday LOIS PUGLIONESI, Times Correspondent Published: Monday, April 11, 2011
HAVERFORD — The Swell bubble gum factory on Eagle Road soon will be no more. The longtime landmark is scheduled for demolition Wednesday, with a final farewell celebration at 11 a.m. Board of Commissioners President Bill Wechsler, Seventh Ward Commissioner Jim McGarrity, Philadelphia YMCA President and CEO John Flynn, and other township officials will be on hand to say goodbye to the 200,000-square-foot facility that for 55 years produced popular confections such as Swell bubble gum, El Bubble gum cigars, Cry Baby extra sour gum, Gold Rocks Nugget Bubble Gum and Joe Blo Giant bubble gum before closing its doors in 2003. The factory became idle after Philadelphia Chewing Gum Corp. sold the business to Concord Confections. YMCA officials plan to construct a 70,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility on the factory footprint, complete with two-story atrium lobby, wellness center, three swimming pools, oversized gym, child/family center, group exercise studios and parking area. The Y anticipates serving more than 20,000 area residents and says it will provide 150 new permanent jobs. Grand opening is slated for spring 2013, Flynn said. Flynn said the Y has obtained all permits required for razing the factory as well as comfort letters from all environmental agencies. The Y “continues to pursue finalized permits and plans for the building and construction,” Flynn said. Work crews dismantled interior fixtures and performed asbestos abatement over the past few months in preparation for the external demolition phase, expected to require six to eight weeks. The Y signed a ground lease agreement with the township for use of the 6.3-acre site in March 2010, which calls for the Y to pay not more than $2 million over 25 years. Flynn said he was “very surprised” at recent findings by the Delaware County Board of View, which determined the site’s value at $6 million. “I don’t think the property as it stands is even worth as much as the township paid for it,” Flynn said. The township awarded the site’s former owners, the Fenimore family, $1.26 million as just compensation after officials condemned the property in 2009 for the purpose of constructing “township facilities and/or a community recreation center.” Prior attempts to purchase it from the Fenimores stuck on pricing issues. The Fenimores valued the site at $6 million, a figure township officials considered excessive after having it independently appraised. However, the Fenimores appealed, and “after a full and impartial consideration of all the testimony ... and careful view of the property,” a Board of View in March awarded them $6 million in damages. Township officials have said they disagree with the finding and plan to appeal. If appeals fail, the township will owe the Fenimores the difference, plus ongoing interest dating back to June 2009, for a total of about $5 million to date. Flynn does not think the township’s sticky situation will affect the Y. Leadership confirmed that “we have an agreement, and they think they’ll work out an agreement for a final price. I don’t see that it has any impact on our plans to move forward. ... I’m comfortable with our contract and it appears the township is, too. I’m very pleased with the process and the progress,” Flynn said.

Man Stuck
in elevator
for 41 hrs
speaks ...
(WCBS/New York) / It is something most of us do several times a day almost without thinking – taking a ride on an elevator. But for a one man, that simple act turned into a nightmare. The elevator malfunctioned and he was stranded in it for 41 hours. «During the 41 hours I went somewhat crazy,» White said. That’s right... 41 hours. For nearly two days, White was trapped in an elevator. Coming back from a cigarette break, White was heading back to his 39th floor office. But then the elevator came to a sudden stop, and though he didn’t know it yet, his life would never be the same. «I pushed the bell... total silence,» White said. As the minutes passed, White said he was sure help would come, thinking someone must have heard the alarm or had been monitoring the camera.
It is something most of us do several times a day almost without thinking – taking a ride on an elevator. But for one man, that simple act turned into a nightmare. The elevator malfunctioned and he was stranded in it for 41 hours.
In fact, White was so sure he was being watched in the elevator, he was on his best behavior. «I didn’t want to embarrass myself,» he said. «I wanted to remain calm and collected and maybe by acting calm and collected I’d be that way.» But by 11 p.m. Friday, White’s cries for help had still gone unanswered. «I’d open the doors and I’d shout up and I’d shout down,» White said. «I’d tap in Morse code, I’d tap different beats.» He had no food and no water, nothing but a couple of Rolaids and three cigarettes. As the hours passed, White said he tried not to think about the very real possibility that he could die. «The worst thing would be that I would dehydrate and not be around for my sister and mother,» White said. «It would be devastating to them.»
He tried to stay calm and get comfortable, but fitful sleep brought no relief. «I’d wake up and I’d still be in the elevator,» White said. «I’d be waking up into my nightmare.» And White tried not to give in to despair. He had little concept of time, but figured he may be trapped until Monday, when the workday world would come back to life and surely save him. He was losing hope. «I’m actually defeated here,» White said. «I’ve given up. There’s nothing else I can do. I am like completely trapped.» Finally, after 41 hours, a guard sees his image and asks over the elevator intercom if someone is there. «I jumped up and I said, ‘Yes! There’s someone in here,’» White said.

He was finally free, but the experience shook him to the core. Unable to work, White lost his job and his apartment. But ask him who he places most of the blame on for the ordeal and White doesn’t hesitate. «Me,» he said. «I really think I let the thing affect me too much. I really should have gone straight back to work.» In fact, for nearly a decade (the incident happened in 1999) White let the elevator get the best of him. He is finally telling his story and he says by doing so, only now is he truly free. White sued the building’s owners, settling for an undisclosed amount. A spokeswoman for the owner said she deeply regretted White’s ordeal, and that after the incident improvements were made.

after he attempts to swim river on drunk night out
CROCODILE
EATEN BY
WIFE SEES MAN
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1169032/Wife-sees-man-eaten-crocodile-attempts-swim-river-drunk-night-out.html
A man's drunken night out led to his death when he decided to swim across a river in the dark - and was attacked by a lurking crocodile. Witnesses claimed the man's relatives - including his wife witnessed his death as the party attempted to return home at the end of the evening. As the search continued for his body today, wildlife rangers have been ordered to shoot every crocodile on sight in case any of them has the man's remains in its stomach. But the drastic move is also to ensure that no-one else is grabbed over the Easter break if a holidaymaker decides to take a swim in the Daly River, 200 miles south of the Northern Territory capital of Darwin. Police said the 20-year-old man, who has yet to be named, had been drinking with his brother-inlaw and a group of friends during the evening. Instead of heading to a bridge to reach the other side of the river, where they had been camping with relatives, they decided to swim across to the far bank. Locals said a large crocodile had been seen in the area in previous days and no-one had dared venture into the water. But after a night of drinking, said a police officer, it appeared that the two men had thrown caution to the wind and had decided to take a 'short cut' back to the camping ground by swimming across the river. 'We fear that the man's body will never be found,' said acting police superintendent Peter Schiller. While we cannot confirm with absolute certainty that the man has been killed by a crocodile, everyone needs to consider the likelihood that the one time you have trouble swimming is the same time that a crocodile is seen next to you. ‘We consider it probable that a crocodile was involved in this disappearance.’ Megan Brown, who was camping nearby, said she had been told by the man’s relatives that they had seen him being attacked by a crocodile, estimated to be 14ft long. It is believed the man’s wife saw the incident, but police have refused to confirm details about witnesses. ‘My family visits this area each year over Easter but we wouldn’t risk swimming in the waters,’ said Miss Brown. ‘It’s a fact of life, particularly on the Daly River, that there’s notoriously large crocs and some very game crocs here.’ Police have established a half-mile exclusion zone in the area to ensure that no-one else is attacked while the hunt for crocodiles continues. The suspected crocodile attack was the third death by one of the reptiles in northern Australia in recent months, the two earlier incidents involving children. The Northern Territory government, concerned about the rising number of crocodile attacks occurring in or near urban areas, is considering a plan to either destroy or move any of the reptiles found within 20 miles of Darwin.
