WHAT MAKES SUPERIOR HATCHING RESULTS BEFORE SETTING EGGS?
To achieve superior hatching results before setting the eggs, there are several factors to consider and optimize. Here are some key aspects that can contribute to better hatching outcomes:
1. Egg Quality: High-quality eggs have a greater chance of successful hatching. Ensure that the eggs are obtained from healthy, disease-free breeders. The eggs should be of appropriate size, shape, and weight, with intact shells and no visible deformities or cracks.

2. Breeder Management: Proper care and management of the breeding flock play a crucial role in obtaining quality eggs. Provide a balanced and nutritious diet to the breeders, ensuring they receive adequate vitamins, minerals, and proteins. Maintain optimal flock health, including vaccination programs, parasite control, and regular veterinary check-ups.
3. Egg Collection: Handle the eggs carefully during collection to prevent damage. Avoid washing the eggs as it removes the protective cuticle, which can increase the risk of bacterial contamination. Cracked eggs, even hairline cracks can cause the embryo to die or become an exploder that will contaminate the other eggs. Remove them from the process.
4. Transportation of the hatching eggs from the farm to the hatchery should best be done in a well-ventilated and climatecontrolled truck. Use roads that avoid bumps and potholes, if not, drive very carefully as the eggs might get damaged.
5. Store the eggs in a clean and controlled cold store environment with proper ventilation, temperature, and humidity. Ideally, eggs should be stored at a consistent temperature of around 50-60°F (10-15°C) and a relative humidity of 70-80% depending on the length of time the eggs will be stored.
6. Pre-warm the hatching eggs before setting to avoid sweating (condensation on the eggs) ideally to about 72°F (22°C) in a pre-heating room or up to 80°C (27°C) in pre-heating mode in the incubator setter.
7. Depending on the set-up, fumigate the eggs just before setting and/or use a Total Disinfection System (TDS) in the incubator.
8. Choose a reliable and well- calibrated incubator that provides consistent temperature, humidity, and ventilation control.
9. Monitoring and Adjustments: Regularly monitor the incubator’s temperature, humidity, and other parameters to ensure they remain within the optimal range. Make necessary adjustments if any deviations occur to maintain stable conditions.
