How Much Rehearsal Could a Conductor Conduct if a Conductor Could Conduct Rehearsal?
for solo orhchestral conductor Matthew Bardin (2017)
A Note from the Composer: This piece of performance art is set for a solo conductor without an orchestra. The performer should be set up as if conducting the ensemble at a concert; complete with podium, baton, a tuxedo. It is optional to have chairs and stands set up as if an orchestra were present. If so, at least one chair must be set up for each instrumental section. The conductor begins the piece by tapping their baton on their music stand and rasing their arms, as if begining a piece. Then they begin conducting the notated meters at the specefied tempo, adding expression to their patterns as if the non-existant orchestra were performing music with the notated rhythms, dynamics, and articulations. The conductor should also cue specefic entrances as notated in the score. Geasture may be exagerated slightly, but not to the point of being distracting. All page turns should be noisy. Approximatly four and a half minutes in duration Completed December, 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts
