negotiations for solo bass
Matthew A. Bardin 2020
Program Note: A continual back and forth between pitches, dynamics, and rhythms. Like a spirited debate. On Notation: The following symbols are utilized throughout the score of negotiations: Horizontal straight arrows indicate a gradual change between different bow positions.
Vertical squiggly arrows indicate to arpeggiate the chord or interval. If playing pizzicato, this should be performed as if strumming the strings. If playing arco, the bow should strike at an angle so that the notes sound one after another instead of simultaneously.
Hairpins with a circle indicate to begin or end the phrase as close to silent as physically possible.
Glissandi should happen gradually over the duration of the first note; arriving on the final note in-time. All grace notes occur before the beat. Accidentals carry through the measure, but not the octave.
