Pelhamwood o Where would the Proposed Pelhamwood Park be? The areaof land that we are proposing for a public park lies between Young Ave and Little Young, North of Harmon Ave and South of Lincoln Ave. . Why is the Park being proposed as a public park? Currently there are few open green areas for residents of Pelham to enjoy. Whether it is simply having a game of catch with children, planting flowers, tending to a community garden,or having a dedicatedareawhere dog owners can let their pets socialize, a well maintained community park is a necessityfor a healthy neighborhood. o What will happen to the Park? If nothing is done the Park will continueto be availableonly to the few who currently have access. Nonetheless, the Village continuesto pay real estatetaxes and absorb the maintenance costs. Further, if anyone is injured in this poorly maintained and By creating a park with new poorly monitored area, the liability rests with the Village. iandscaping, fencing and other safety precautions, the liability risks are reduced and there would be an immediate benefit to the residents of the Village of Pelham in retum for the costs being absorbed. o How doesthis effect current/future users of Pelhamwood Park? CurrentUsersof the Park will be able to continue their enjoyment of the park, with enhanceciamenities and security. It is envisioned that the future park will have a playground, open grassedareaswhere children can throw a ball around or play kickball and electronic security measures to ensure safety and preventabuse. There would also be a regular scheduleof hours that the police departmentwould lnforce. A dedicateddog run separatefrom the rest of the park is also envisioned in the areato the west of Highbrook, while the land to the east would be open gleen spacefor the residentsof the village to enjoy. The two would be connectedby a path over the Highbrook bridge. o Who should be able to use Pelhamwood Park? All Residentsof Pelham- it is envisioned that the park will be built with financial grantsthat will be sought by the Viliage, other donations and Village firnds. Everyone should be able to enjoy the Park, although no organized sports (little league, soccer, etc.) is anticipatedas there isn't adequatespaceto accommodatethem' . Why should we create Pelhamwood Park? In this Village, where residentiallots are smail and open space is scarce, it is important that all areas be utilized to a highest and best use. Furthei, all Village residents should benefit from green spacethat their tax dollars support and maintain. BY SIGNING THIS PETITION YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING: 1.
