2020 WELCOME FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
RATTLER NATION ... Welcome to Rattler Stadium… welcome to Navasota ISD… and welcome to Navasota, Texas, USA! We are so excited about this upcoming 2020-2021 school year and all of the opportunities that it holds. While there are many questions that may arise during this school year, one answer that we know is that it will be filled with hope! A hope that we will all work together to return to a sense of normalcy and a sense of refocusing on what we do here at Navasota ISD. There are two priorities at NISD: • To provide for the safety, security, and the well-being of every single student and staff member every day. • To provide the highest quality of education to help our students and our staff be successful in what they do – both now and in the future. Along with those priorities, part of our Mission Statement reads… “As a multi-cultural, professional community, the district provides equitable experiences for students to participate in a rigorous curriculum using the latest technology in quality facilities.”
DR. STU MUSICK Superintendent, Navasota ISD
As you know, there are several construction projects that are taking place all around Navasota ISD from our 2017 Bond that was passed. We have completed Phase One and are nearing completion on Phase Two at both Navasota Jr. High and Navasota High School within the next couple of months. From
the “boring stuff,” such as replacing roofs and HVAC systems, to the “exciting stuff,” such as our brand new Career & Technology Education (CATE) Center, new Science classrooms and labs, and additional classroom wings on some of our campuses to provide for much needed room to grow. Our next phases of additions at both Brule Elementary School and High Point Elementary school are well under way and look to be on schedule to be completed prior to the 21-22 school year. These are just a few of many great projects going on throughout Navasota ISD. Someone once said, “It only takes a few seconds to tear something down, but it takes years to build something great!” We are ALL a part of the wonderful atmosphere and activities that are going on not only in Navasota ISD, but also in the Navasota community. We are ALL on the same team and we ALL bring important talents and abilities to the “huddle.” The important thing to remember is that it takes ALL of us working together, pulling in the same direction, and building each other up, in order to “Share The Vision!” It truly is an exciting time and a great time to be a Rattler! “ALL IN!” #WeAreNavasota

2020 RATTLER ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Casey Dacus was hired to lead the Navasota Rattler athletics program February 27, 2018 as director and head football coach. For the 44-year old Dacus, it was a chance to return to his alma mater and regain the prominence that was once a proud and elite athletic program. The first two years has been a whirlwind for the Dacus Era as he brought quite a few changes to the entire program. Some of the most visible changes are the renovation and reorganization of the Rattler weight room, and his work with the Navasota ISD Board of Trustees to get a multi-million-dollar Maintenance Tax Note approved to renovate athletic facilities throughout the district including new turf at Rattler Stadium, replacing grass with turf on the baseball and softball fields, building a new eightcourt tennis facility, gym renovations at both Navasota High School and Navasota Junior High and much more. During his first two seasons as head football coach, Dacus led the Rattlers to a 13-11 record, a District Co-championship in 2018 and a District Championship in 2019. Dacus has also led his teams to a playoff win in each of his first two seasons. Dacus returned “home” in 2018 bringing with him 17-years of coaching experience. While in high school he lettered in four spots; football, basketball, baseball and track. Not only was he a well-rounded athlete, he was an exceptional student earning academic all-state. After graduation Dacus continued his athletic career playing
a year of baseball at Wharton Junior College before transferring to Abilene Christian University where he played for three years. Dacus earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Baylor University. While working on his graduate degree, he served an internship with the National Football League’s Houston Texans. Dacus began his coaching career at Stephenville High School where he worked for Chad Morris, who is the former head football coach at the University of Arkansas. And current offensive coordinator at Auburn University. From there Dacus moved to Early High School for five years, then to Abilene Cooper for three seasons. While in Abilene, Dacus worked under former Navasota head coach Mike Spradlin. In 2011, Dacus moved to Graham High School where he served as offensive coordinator for seven years. The Steers football program advanced to the State semifinals in four of its past five seasons. Last year the team finished with a 14-1 record. Dacus married his wife Jody, a Huntsville native, in 2001. The couple have three children, Camden, Jadyn and Collin. Dacus is the son of Mike and Julie Dacus. His dad is a legend in Navasota having served as athletic director, head football and basketball coach during his 23-year tenure. His 1990 basketball team went a perfect 36-0 and won the Class AAA State Championship.

Cornelia Wilson has been an English teacher and Cheer Sponsor for more than two decades at NISD.Since she took over the Navasota High School program, the Rattler Cheerleaders have become known for being technically sharp and award-winning at UCA Camps. However, “sponsor” isn’t really the best word for what Mrs. Wilson does. The Cheer organization is a family, and she is a second mom, friend and confidant to many. Cornelia Wilson lives and breathes school spirit and Rattler Pride. She spends countless hours holding practices, dreaming up pep rally themes, coordinating events on campus or within the community
and supervising the cheerleaders from the sideline at sporting events.Because she brings tough love and a fun personality to the cheer program and to all Rattlers, Mrs. Wilson has influenced hundreds of students and embodies the spirit of NHS. For 39 years, she has been married to Dan, who organizes the Tunnel Crew at football games. They have three beautiful daughters — Sarah Shalley, Hannah Wilson and Rebekah Santoy – who are NHS alumni; two wonderful sons-in-law, Daniel Shalley and Roberto Santoy; but their greatest joy is being “Cookie” and “Chief” to their grandsons, Parker, Pierce, Patton, and Rome.
