UM Coaches
Brian Person Person will begin his second season as head coach of the women's program after serving 6 years as an assistant. He began his collegiate playing career at Central Washington University and eventually finished at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks where he graduated in 1998 with a B.S. in Exercise Science. Person, who earned his MBA from the University of Mobile in May of 2002 with a 3.9 GPA, also has playing experience with Mobile. A former starter at right back for the Rams, he also played for the PDL Jackson Chargers in 1998-99. In addition to his coaching duties, Person was named Assistant Athletic Director prior to the 2004-05 athletic year. He is an active member of the NSCAA and has spent two summers working with the regional Olympic Developmental Program.
Kevin Laux Laux begins his second season on the Lady Rams' coaching staff after serving as a graduate assistant for Spring Hill College’s soccer program. Laux is back in familiar territory, as he graduated from the University of Mobile in 2005 with a B.S in psychology and a minor in sports management. He was also a member of the 2002 men's soccer team that won a NAIA National Championship and received the team's 2004 Champion of Character award. He is currently working on his masters in sports coaching at the Sports Academy. He works in all aspects of the program and is heavily involved in recruiting.

2008 Preview Most teams would temper expectations coming off a 3-12-2 season, but that is not so with the Lady Rams. The reason for optimism is the 2-2-2 mark of the final 6 games of 2007 and all of the experience gained by talented young players, along with the influx of even more new blood.
This season, the NAIA has gone to direct qualification, where the winner of each conference tournament gets an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. While the GCAC is one team short of the required six teams, they have a one-year waiver due to Hurricane Katrina.
"We want to pick up where we left off in 2007, where we tied or beat several teams that had beaten us earlier in the year" Head Coach Brian Person said. "If we can do that, the results will take care of themselves."
"We are excited about that because we have definitely improved our team from last year," Person stated. "We were competitive in conference last year and we are good enough to compete in the conference this year."
Those "results" will come against a more favorable schedule than last year, when the
Leadership From Returnees Crucial

GCAC Games Vital "We played a lot of road games last year and we wanted to change that this year and even it up a bit," Person said. "There are not as many tough teams on the road and it's a schedule we can do well with." Non-conference foes Martin Methodist, Auburn-Montgomery, University of Montevallo and University of West Florida offer tough challenges, but Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action against Belhaven, William Carey, LSU-Shreveport and Spring Hill will take on an added importance this season.
If the Lady Rams are going to turn all of their promise into results, they will need to count on some key returning players and some incoming players to fill holes. "We have only one senior in Lauren Thomson and we are asking a lot of her to become a leader," Person said. "She has made good progress in that area and will play in the midfield or back, depending on where the newcomers fit in." While Thomson will provide leadership, 2006 NAIA All-American Terri McCreadie will be looked to for goal scoring. "We are really counting on Terri to come in and be our goal scorer," Person stated. "We hope she can put some balls away for us." Rounding out the key returnees is a pair of All-Conference selections in the back. "Louise Arseneault and Anna Maddox will be two key defenders that will hopefully pick up where they left off and improve throughout the year," Person said. Incoming Players Must Step Up Complimenting the returning players will be a nice looking group of incoming

freshmen and transfers. "To help us continue to be stout in the back, we are looking for Ashley Lachapelle to come in and be an added presence along with Anna and Louise," Person said. Junior college transfers Aislinn Finfrock and Danielle Byrd will contribute in the middle of the field, and could be key in getting McCreadie closer to her 2006 total of 15 goals. "Aislinn and Danielle are expected to be impact players in the midfield, and we are expecting Aislinn to contribute in scoring goals and creating opportunities for Terri, which is one of the things we missed last year," Person added. Continuing the theme of adding offense, Person thinks that freshman Emma Murphy can be a player "that draws attention away from others, while offering versatility to play in the back and up front." All in all, the Lady Rams will need the young players to continue to mature and develop if the team wants to make it through a schedule that features 9 home games and 8 GCAC contests, spanning 2.5 months.

2007 Review While some might look at the 3-12-2 record and consider the 2007 University of Mobile women's soccer season a disappointment, the Lady Ram coaches consider it a building block to a bright future.
started performing at a level we were looking for." Mobile's first game after the streak was at Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foe Belhaven, and Mobile went to work taking out a lot of their frustrations to the tune of a 4-0 blanking.
"We knew we would struggle with so few players and so much youth on the team," Head Coach Brian Person said. "But, with two true freshmen making the All-GCAC team and others gaining experience, we feel we are headed in the right direction." Breather please…. The squad had to perform for much of the season with 0 or 1 sub, and that tied the coaches' hands and forced them to play defensively. That saw the scoring drop from 61 goals scored in 2006 to only 13 last year. "Several injuries and some unexpected departures hurt us last year," Person said. "We had to play conservatively and then, late in the game when our girls wore down, the other teams took advantage of it." That was evidenced by teams tallying 10 more goals in the second half against Mobile, including a 6-game stretch with 17 second-half goals allowed. Up and down, and up again…. Three distinct stretches made up the season for the Lady Rams: a solid first three games, a brutal 8-game losing streak, and then a very promising final 6-game stretch that saw Mobile pick up 2 wins and 2 ties against conference opponents. The opening game of the season brought Final-Four team Martin Methodist to the Jungle, and the Lady
Louise Arseneault was named 2nd-Team AllGCAC in 2007.
Rams performed well, losing 0-2. Mobile kept it scoreless through the first 31 minutes, but could not hold on. After a disappointing 3-0 loss to Reinhardt, the Lady Rams defeated Roberts Wesleyan 2-1 thanks to goals from Chelsea Bate and Terri McCreadie. "It wasn't a bad start to the season," Person stated. "We turned in a very nice performance against a championship caliber team, and then picked up our first win of the season against Roberts Wesleyan." Things went south after the "w," as the team was outscored 26-4 during an 8game losing streak that included five games where the Lady Rams were shutout.
The Lady Rams followed that with a scoreless tie at rival Spring Hill, which marked the first time all year the team had back-to-back games with positive results. One game later, Mobile tied LSU-Shreveport 1-1 and then beat Belhaven 2-1 in a play-in game for the GCAC Tournament. The season ended with a 3-0 loss at William Carey. "The year-end run really gave us hope for 2008," Person said. "Conference play is always key, and our team began to show it can compete, and that our hard work was paying off." Award Winning…. Despite the 3-12-2 record, four Lady Rams were named to the All-Conference team. Terri McCreadie and Anna Maddox were 1st-Team selections, while Ashley Hoffman and Louise Arseneault were tabbed for the 2nd-Team.
The team then began to click after the long drought that featured games against top-level teams like Lindsey Wilson, Covenant College, West Florida, Auburn-Montgomery and William Carey. "The losing streak was tough after a nice start," Person said. "But, all of those games versus top teams tested us mentally and physically, and that paid off down the stretch where our young ladies
