Michael Berry Michael Berry begins his 5th season at the helm of the University of Mobile women’s basketball program, after taking over halfway through the 2007-08 season. Mobile is 60-47 with Berry in charge. Prior to becoming the head man, Berry served four years as an assistant, with Mobile advancing to the NAIA National Tournament in two of those seasons.
UMobile Coaches
In 2009-10, the Lady Rams finished 17-12 and climbed into the NAIA Top-25 for the first time since 2007 when they appeared at No. 24 in the Jan. 11th edition of the poll. Mobile has also been stout defensively under Berry’s leadership the last two years, ranking in the Top-10 in blocks per game, defensive rebounds, total blocks and field goal percentage defense each year. The team also set school records for fewest points allowed in a season and total blocks in 2009-10. Aside from team accomplishments, seven players have earned All-Conference honors since Berry took over. Alice Honnery was named NAIA All-American in 2011, Danielle Goodly was named NAIA All-American in 2009 and Crystal Hutchinson was named GCAC Freshman of the Year in 2008. Players have also set seven school records under Berry’s watch (career blocks, single-season blocks, single-season steals, single-game scoring, single-game FG made, singlegame FG att, single-game blocked shots). Berry’s coaching experience is lengthy. He served as head coach at Harvest Christian Academy in Pasadena, TX and Bucks County Community College in Newtown, PA. He was assistant coach at NCAA I Sam Houston State, Lon Morris College and Oklahoma City University. After leading Oklahoma City to a NAIA National Championship as a player in 1991, Berry helped coach the team to a pair of national titles in 1999 and 2000. He is a 1991 bachelor of arts graduate in mass communications from Oklahoma City and received his master of liberal arts in management/leadership from Oklahoma City in 1996. Berry is a native of North Carolina and is married to Geeta. He has two children, Mycah, 21, and Rekha, 14.
Ebonie Ferguson Ebonie Ferguson begins her fourth year as assistant coach for the University of Mobile women’s basketball team after an extensive playing career at Mississippi State and two years of coaching experience at the JUCO and collegiate levels. Hailing from Gadsden, AL, Ferguson attended Mississippi State University from 2001-05, where she was a four-year letter winner as a guard and earned a bachelor of science in educational psychology. During her playing time at Mississippi State, Ferguson helped guide the Lady Bulldogs to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and one WNIT Tournament appearance. Ferguson left MSU with a .351 career 3-point field goal percentage, which currently stands at 7th-best on the all-time list. She won the Most Improved Player Award in 2005, and the Lady Bulldogs collected a 72-47 overall record in her four years at the school. She also played with current WNBA stars LaToya Thomas and Tan White. After college, Ferguson took over as assistant coach at East Central Community College in Decatur, MS. There she served as coach for the 2006-07 season when the team appeared in the Regional Tournament. The coaching carousel then took Ferguson to East Texas Baptist University for the 2007-08 season, where she dealt with recruiting, on-the-floor coaching, team travel and academics. ETBU is a member of the American Southwest Conference and a NCAA Div. III affiliate. Ferguson is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.
