Dr. Mark Foley has served as president of the University of Mobile since 1998 and is the third president of the university since its founding in 1961. During more than a decade of leadership, Dr. Foley has led the move to intentionally integrate faith and learning in all areas of university life, while raising academic standards, building new residence halls, establishing outstanding programs such as the Center for Performing Arts, and earning the private Christian university national rankings. His emphasis on the core values of faith, learning and leadership has extended to all operations of the university, from the classroom to the administrative offices. With these core values in place, the university is committed to graduating confident Christian men and women who have mastered the body of knowledge required by the degree they hold; who know how to think; who know what they believe and why they believe it; who possess the courage to live and work according to those beliefs; who accept responsibility as caretakers of that with which God has entrusted them; and who possess the willingness and skill to use their influence in appropriate and effective ways to change the world around them. Dr. Foley is a member of the Executive Committee of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, a past chairman of the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Schools, and a member of the Board of Directors of Victory Health Partners and Volunteers of America, Southeast, Inc. Previously, Dr. Foley was executive vice president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He holds a bachelor of business administration from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas; and a master of divinity and a doctor of philosophy in psychology and counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is an ordained minister, a former business owner, and has practiced as a professional counselor. His wife, Marilyn, is involved in many university activities. She holds a bachelor of science in education from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and is a former classroom educator. The Foleys have two children and two granddaughters. Their daughter, Molly, is married to Doug Sawyer, an accountant in Georgia, and they have two daughters, Avery and Abby. Their son, Rob, and his wife, Leah, reside in Colorado. Rob is on the staff of Denver Theological Seminary and Leah is a registered nurse.

Joe was a Texas League All-Star in 1999 with the Oakland A’s double-A affiliate after being drafted by the A’s in the 2nd round of the 1996 MLB Draft. He was also a Central League AllStar in 2004 and 2005. At Mobile, he set the record for the highest single-season batting average at .468 and was named 1st-Team NAIA All-American. Joe Espada Prior to the 2010 MLB season, Joe was named 3rd Base Coach for the Florida Marlins after previously serving as the minor league infield coordinator in their organization. He was formerly a hitting coach for the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
J.C. Romero Since being drafted in the 21st round of the 1997 MLB Amateur Draft, Romero has appeared in the big leagues with the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Boston Red Sox and, most recently, the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2008, Romero helped the Phillies to the World Series Championship. He appeared in 8 playoff games, logging 7.1 scoreless innings, while fanning 7 batters and allowing only 2 hits. In the World Series, Romero picked up a pair of victories out of the bullpen, including the victory in the decisive game.
Malik Tabet Tabet played tennis at Mobile, earning NAIA All-American honors in 1997 and 1998. The Rams won the NAIA National Championship in 1997 and finished 2nd at the NAIA National Tournament in 1998. He graduated from Mobile in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages. Now, Tabet is head coach of Austin Peay State University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams. He previously coached at Indiana State University and was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2008.
Sarah Bailey Thomas Thomas made history on September 15, 2007 when she became the first female to serve as an official at a NCAA- Div I football game. She played for the University of Mobile basketball team from 1992-95 and found success on and off the court. The Walnut Grove, Miss., native helped the Lady Rams to the 1993 NAIA National Tournament and a 61-33 record in her three seasons. She was named a District 30 Scholar-Athlete and NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete in 1994-95.

The NAIA exists to advance character-driven intercollegiate athletics. The long held mission of the NAIA is to promote the education and development of well-rounded students and productive citizens through intercollegiate athletics.
- The NAIA has 45,000 student-athletes participating at nearly 300 member colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada.
ATHLETICS
- The NAIA offers 23 championships in 13 sports and offers championship opportunities at the conference and national level.

CHARACTER
- By following the five tenets of responsibility, respect, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship, NAIA student-athletes will understand character values inside and outside of the sports setting. - The NAIA emphasizes the importance of academics while participating in athletics.

2011-12 UMOBILE GOLF Colby Odom will begin his second year as head coach of the University of Mobile women’s golf team in 2011-12 and third year as head coach of UMobile’s men’s golf team. Odom spent 2008-09 as a part-time coach with the men’s team, learning from Hall-ofFamer Terry Hopper, who began the program in 1985-86. He is no stranger to UM golf, as he played golf at Mobile in 2002-06 before graduating in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in business communication. He has played competitive golf since he was five years old, and he looks forward to the challenge ahead.
Hall-of-Famer Terry Hopper returns to Mobile after a year off for his second season as assistant coach of the men’s and women’s golf programs, which he began. Hopper will focus on the women’s golf team. He started the men’s golf program in 1985 and coached the team through the 2008-09 season. The men qualified for the NAIA National Champion 21 times and won the National Championship in 1997. The Batesville, Miss., native has been at Mobile since 1970 and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. He has coached 17 men’s and 7 women’s NAIA All-Americans. After starting the women’s program in 1993-94, Hopper sat out the second season, and then returned and coach until 2004-05. The women qualified for nationals in each of his 11 years and he guided the team to the NAIA National Championship in 1998.

All-Time UMobile National Championships 2006: The University of Mobile softball team went 51-2 on the season and won the program’s first-ever NAIA National Championship. Linden Jones was named NAIA Pitcher of the Year. Mayret Perez and Jones were named 1st-Team NAIA AllAmericans. 2002: The University of Mobile men’s soccer team went 18-4-1 on the season and defeated Park University 2-1 to win the program’s first NAIA National Championship. Head Coach Peter Fuller was named NAIA Coach of the Year for the 3rd time. 1998: The University of Mobile women’s golf team won the NAIA National Championship. Head Coach Dr. Terry Hopper was named NAIA National Coach of the Year. Fiona Young was named NAIA All-American. 1997: The University of Mobile women’s soccer team went 24-0-0 and won the NAIA National Championship. Lady Rams beat Simon Fraser 2-1 in overtime to claim the title. Championship came one year after losing in the finals in a 5-overtime contest. Uwe Tittl was named NAIA Coach of the Year. 1997: The University of Mobile men’s golf team won the NAIA National Tournament. The Rams fired an 1152 to win by 30 strokes over Huntingdon (AL). The 72-hole tournament took place at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, OK.

Fernando Ibarrola was named the Ward-Ballinger Outstanding Player and Derrick Racine was named Coach of the Year. 1994: The University of Mobile women’s tennis team went 25-2 and won the NAIA National Championship. Melissa Metcalfe and Anita Pearson won the NAIA Doubles Championship. Anna Moll, Marilla Andrade, Melissa Metcalfe and Anita Pearson named NAIA All-Americans. 1993: The University of Mobile men’s tennis team finished with 28 points to beat out Auburn-Montgomery and North Florida for the NAIA National Championship. Mattias Karlsson and Jacques Theron won the Doubles Championship for Mobile.

Coach Terry Hopper was named to the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame. 2006-07: Finished 4th at the Region XIII Tournament and finished 13th at the NAIA National Tournament. 2005-06: Won the Region XIII Golf Tournament for the third straight year and finished 11th in the NAIA National Tournament. Matt Drinkard was named NAIA All-American and won the individual Region XIII title. They finished the national tournament with a four-round score of 52-over-par.

Andrew Bayliss was named a First-Team All-American. 2001-02: Finished 15th overall at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Graeme Brown won the Region XIII individual tournament and set a newcourse record at George T. Bagby State Park in Fort Gains, GA with a 67 (5 under par) and was named a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American and a NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete. 2000-01: Shooting six and seven over par respectively, Graeme Brown and Andy Bayliss led the University of Mobile into a tie with Johnson & Wales for a 10th place finish at the 2001 NAIA National Championship Tournament. Graeme and Bayliss each earnened All-American honors as they finished in 12th and 13th place respectively in the individual results. 1999-00: David Tuyo won NAIA Individual Championship. 2011-12 UMOBILE GOLF 2009-10: Maegan Rice was named 1st-Team NAIA All-American and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the 4th-straight year. Taylor Lee was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete. Rice finished 17th at nationals. She won the NAIA Unaffiliated Qualifier. 2008-09: Lady Rams defeated Spring Hill to win the 2009 GCAC Championship. Mobile finished 4th at the NAIA Qualifier and missed out on the NAIA National Championships, but Maegan Rice was selected as one of 9 individual qualifiers to compete at nationals. 2007-08: Lady Rams finished ranked #13 in the NAIA Top-25 and earned the program’s 15th bid to the NAIA National Championships, where they finished 18th. Maegan Rice was named NAIA All-American for the second straight year. 2006-07: Lady Rams finished 2nd at the Region XIII Tournament and went on to an 11th place finish at the NAIA National Championships. Maegan Rice was named a 1st Team NAIA All-American. 2005-06: Maggie Blaylock named only third head coach in program history. 2004-05: The women’s golf team finished in 21st place overall at the NAIA National Tournament. 2003-04: The women’s team finished in 19th place overall at the NAIA National Championship Tournament for the third consecutive year. 2002-03: The women’s team finished in 19th place overall at the NAIA National Championship Tournament for the second consecutive year. 2001-02: The women’s team finished in 19th place overall at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. 2000-01: The women’s team finished in 9th place overall at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Leading the way for Mobile was Apryl Watson who shot 45 over par and Leigh Ankerson who shot 46 over par. 1999-00: The women’s team finished in fourth place overall at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Deanne Tolbird named NAIA All-American. 1998-99: The women’s team finished ranked ninth overall in the final NAIA regular season poll and also finished in ninth place overall at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Deanne Tolbird was a medalist at the UNO Invitational. 1997-98: The women’s team won the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Head caoch Dr. Terry Hopper was named NAIA National Coach of the Year. Fiona Young finished 8th overall at the NAIA National Championship Tournament and was named a NAIA All-American. 1996-97: The women’s team finished in second place at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Maria Boivie, Christine Clark and Fiona Young named NAIA All-Americans. 1995-96: The women’s team finished in fifth place at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Fiona Young named NAIA All-American. 1994-95: The women’s team finished in fourth place at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Kathy Ziglo was the NAIA National Championship Tournament individual runner-up and finished as a NAIA All-American. 1993-94: Mark Hall was named the first head coach of the women’s golf team at the University of Mobile. The inaugural team qualified for NAIA National Championship Tournament finished in fifth place overall in their first season. Hannah Hell finished as the NAIA National Championship Tournament Individual runner-up and was named a NAIA All-American. Kathy Ziglo was named a NAIA All-American.
