Administration
Dr. Mark Foley has served as president of the University of Mobile since 1998 and is the third president of the university since its founding in 1961. During 15 years of leadership, Dr. Foley has led the move to intentionally integrate learning, faith and leadership in all areas of university life, while raising academic standards, building new residence halls, establishing outstanding programs such as the Center for Performing Arts and The College of Christian Leadership; and leading the university to national rankings. His emphasis on the core values of faith, learning, conviction, integrity, stewardship and leadership has extended to all operations of the university, from the classroom to the administrative offices. With these core values in place, the university is committed to graduating confident Christian men and women who have mastered the body of knowledge required by the degree they hold; who know how to think; who know what they believe and why they believe it; who possess the courage to live and work according to those beliefs; who accept responsibility as caretakers of that with which God has entrusted them; and who possess the willingness and skill to use their influence in appropriate and effective ways to change the world around them. These values lie at the heart of the University’s 2020 Vision strategic plan that sets as its outcome: “By 2020, The University of Mobile will be a nationally recognized voice and transforming, influence in the revitalization of Christian faith and character in America.” Dr. Foley held membership on the Executive Committee of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Executive Committee and past chairman of the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Schools, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Volunteers of America, Southeast, Inc. Previously, Dr. Foley was executive vice president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas; and a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology and counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is an ordained minister, a former business owner, and has practiced as a professional counselor. His wife, Marilyn, is involved in many university activities. She holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and is a former classroom educator. The Foleys have two children and two granddaughters. Their daughter, Molly, is married to Doug Sawyer, an accounting executive in Georgia, and they have two daughters, Avery and Abby. Their son, Rob, and his wife, Leah, reside in Colorado. Rob is on the staff of Denver Theological Seminary and Leah is a registered nurse.

Evans will begin his first season at the helm of the University of Mobile women’s basketball program after spending 11 seasons at conference rival Belhaven. Evans takes over the Lady Rams program after winning 51 games over the past two seasons with the Blazers, and making back-to-back trips to the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Tournament. In 2012-13, Mobile will be looking to return to the tournament for the first time since 2005-06. Evans comes to Mobile with a 166-163 career coaching record. He has coached the past two SSAC Player of the Year winners and three NAIA AllAmericans over the past two seasons, including a 1st-teamer last year. Evans’ teams have ranked in the Top-15 in turnover margin in the NAIA in each of the last five years and in the Top-17 in steals in each of the last Belhaven University four seasons. He has served as head coach of men’s and women’s varsity basketball, tennis and track, as well as assistant coach for high school football and baseball.

Women’s Basketball
2012-13 Preview
The 2012-13 season will mark a new era of women’s basketball at the University of Mobile, as Billy Evans takes over as head coach after spending 11 seasons at Belhaven.
Tajkov appeared in 26 games last year with 55 points and 40 rebounds; Edwards played in 28 games, averaging 9.1 points and 4.3 boards; Bayliss averaged 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 19 starts for Mobile; and Dixon tallied 63 points and 56 rebounds in 23 appearances.
Over the past two seasons, Evans led the Blazers to 51 wins and back-toback NAIA National Championship appearances. Awaiting Evans and the UMobile fans is a young roster, but one that features a lot of returning talent. Leana Tajkov, Judi Vigneulle, Shontae Dillon, Sharifa Chandler, Lauren Bethly, Briana Edwards, Courtney Bayliss and Danielle Dixon return after seeing action last season. The team has no seniors on the roster, five juniors, one freshman and seven sophomores. “The cupboard was not left bare,” Evans said. “Then, you accent the returning talent with Deonica McCormick, Molly Speed and Christy Roewe, and we can be pretty good this year.” Speed, a 5-11 freshman from Collins, Miss., and McCormick, a 5-8 junior from Biloxi, Miss., will join Vigneulle, Dillon, Chandler, Bethly and 2011-12 redshirt Shaunette Battle in the backcourt. Dillon scored 55 points and had 29 assists in 20 games last season, Chandler saw action in 19 games with 65 points and 42 rebounds, Bethly started 18 games with 134 points and 44 assists and Vigneulle appeared in 8 games with 18 points and 16 rebounds. “Deonica and Molly are impact players that I’ve been recruiting pretty heavily, and Molly may be the best
“Bri can play the 3, 4 or 5 as can Courtney, and they’ll have to play inside along with Christy,” Evans said. “Leana has moved inside and has done really well there, and CeCe Willis can be a force due to her size if she can stay healthy.”
Shontae Dillon is one of eight returning players for the Lady Rams.
pure shooter on the team along with Courtney,” Evans said. “Deonica and Lauren will both be very good point guards for us.” The post will look a lot different to those who were accustomed to watching the 6-4 Daphnee Frieson and 6-2 Alice Honnery last season. Roewe, a 5-10 junior from Decatur, Ala., will join the 6-1 Tajkov, the 5-8 Edwards, the 5-9 Dixon and the 6-0 Bayliss at the 3, 4 and 5 spots on the court. “We are changing the mindset here,” Evans said. “They’ve had big, slow post players and we are going to be more up-tempo with more attacking. When you have the size they had last year you can slow down, but we are going to be more aggressive this year. I want us to make more free throws than the other team attempts.”
www.umobile.edu
Awaiting the team is a tough schedule, with a nice blend on conference and non-conference games. The season kicks off Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. with a home game against Fisk University. Highlighting the non-conference schedule are 2011-12 National Tournament team Xavier and perennial power Bethel, along with games against NCAA-I schools Southern Mississippi, Southeastern Louisiana and Alabama State. The always-tough Southern States Athletic Conference slate will begin with a home contest against Coastal College of Georgia on Jan. 4 and conclude at Spring Hill Feb. 23. “The SSAC schedule will be tough as usual,” Evans said. “We are fortunate that Coastal Georgia, Truett, Brenau and Brewton come here so we avoid those trips. Then, you throw in the solid non-conference schedule, and I think it’s going to be a good schedule.”
