Client - The Brennan Family Client Biography The client in question consists of a family of four: Paula (38), Jason (38) and their two twin boys Kai (8) and Jaiden (8). Currently, the family lives in Hammond Park, a suburb 30 minutes south of the Perth CBD. The family has always enjoyed the outdoors, they will often go camping and off-road driving during almost every long weekend in addition to enjoying family getaways into more natural surroundings during any extended holidays they may have. Recently, Jason has been offered a promotion with a significant pay rise on the condition that the family relocate over East to Brisbane. In addition to this, they managed to make a notable profit on the sale of their Perth home. As a result, the Brennan’s have decided to construct their own getaway cabin in a remote location within Queensland after the relocation. Client Brief The clients require a cabin located in the hills of Maleny, Queensland. The cabin is not intended for full time use, instead, it will serve as a holiday home. The site is completely off grid and as a result will need to utilise sustainable practices in order to collect water, minimise and maximise temperature as required and provide its own electricity.

Photographer - Moonlight Cabin Jeremy Weihrauch - Gollings Studio http://www.jeremyweihrauch.com/ Jeremy Weihrauch is an Australian based photographer who specialises in architectural, portrait and aerial photography. Some of his work includes the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre, the Array by Mirvac, as well as the Moonlight Cabin featured. In many of his architectural shots, what is immediately noticeable is the way in which he captures the sky and surrounding environment along side the building in both a harmonious and vibrant manner. Also of note is the way in which he portrays the play between shadow and light within his internal renders

With the Moonlight Cabin being located within Victoria in a similar context to the proposed cabin for the client, it is expected that it will serve as a form of inspiration throughout the design phase. The final product will seek to provide a similar atmosphere and presence within its surroundings when captured in a similar fashion to how Weihrauch has captured the Moonlight Cabin.

It is a small, scenic town overlooking the hinterland of Queensland. It is located on the humid eastern slopes of the Blackall Range and is one of the wettest towns in Queensland, excluding the upper tropical coasts. The structure will be built here as it offers beautiful scenic views from every direction and due to its wetness, will be optimal for self-sustainability. Sections of the suburb are considered off grid and will serve as a prime location for a remote getaway cabin where a family can be one with nature.
