A singer & songwriter whose lyrics and melodies are as thoughtful and dynamic as the artist himself, Matthew Edralin is constantly capturing the attention of music lovers everywhere. With the ability to quiet any room with his soulful and magnetic voice, California native Matthew Edralin is transcending the boundaries of soul, pop, jazz, hip-hop and old-school R&B with the release of the much-anticipated self titled album Matthew Edralin. “I really think my sound is progressive,” Edralin says. “It’s that old soul music like Marvin Gaye with a bit of Little Dragon flavored in with it. I like to pull different elements and create music that provokes a feeling and inspires people.” Edralin is co-producing the project with famed producer Paul Laurence, known for taking artists like Freddie Jackson, Evelyn King and Melba Moore to their fullest potential. “I’m excited about the opportunity to work with Paul. He understands how to work with vocals. What he pieces together on the record is amazing,” explains Edralin. “He is able to listen to my vocals and find what is profound in me and allows me to truly perform.” Music being in his blood is an understatement —his mother, a classically trained opera singer, and his father, a minister, helped influence his sound from the very beginning, but allowed him to find his own unique voice. “I would hear my mother infuse gospel music with everything from contemporary to classical,” Edralin recalls.

Even while moving around as a kid, Edralin kept his focus on music. By the age of 10 he was already writing ballads and recording them on his own. While living in Detroit he studied at the prestigious Clark Conservatory of Music, where he started to work with ballads folding in jazzy/rock instrumentals. “I was taught to mimic the vocals of gospel singers to learn how to sing those old hymns,” he said. “I would go home and sing Old Rugged Cross and add my own twist to it.” A Hollywood High School graduate, he was chosen by his class to sing at the Hollywood Bowl, packing the entire concert hall—a glimpse into what is to come in Matthew Edralin’s career. Trained classically in piano, violin and a dynamic drummer revealing his internal beat, Edralin has the range and foundation to create music that is unlike any other. His point of view is grounded and he opens your mind to life’s everyday instances and the possibilities of the human condition. Edralin injects his discerning views into his debut album, enlivening senses with his melodies while getting you to reflect about your own purpose. “It’s a blessing I get to do this everyday and as much as I like to make people happy, it means a lot to me that I can sit with them in their moments of sadness,” Edralin explains. “It takes a person who knows his or her own boundaries well and I’ve gone thru a lot in my life and there is nothing I haven’t felt. My experiences through my music allow me to connect to every person and feel with them.”

From I Can’t Believe a song he wrote to an old girlfriend who was moving away, to the upbeat Make ya Feel that is laced with a jazzy pop hook that makes you want to get up and dance, the 12 song album is filled with soul, pop, jazz, and R&B sounds that cleverly elevate and play to Edralin’s strong vocals. He shares his energetic style and insightful observations in songs that you can mediate to, celebrate to, reminisce to, live life to. “I want you to be able to relate to my music whether you feel good, sad or angry,” Matthew Edralin explains. “More importantly I want people to think about their lives and to think about what they’re doing…we’ve got to change the world we’re living in.” In Just As he sings: “look at the time that’s been wasted, there’s something from all that’s left behind as all my folks get older, maybe it’s time to change my mind. “ And in Pride, Edralin reveals how people can react in difficult situations —”Many times it’s about saving face and how hard it is for us to admit the steps we take are often guided by pride.” Edralin’s first album is a fantastic collection of the best of his experiences— from the world stage level to a local jazz café. A storyteller, vocalist, musician and born entertainer, Matthew Edralin commands all sounds and lyrics setting the tone in the music industry for years to come.
