HEAL’S FLAGSHIP STORE SPA DEPARTMENT

Retail Design, manufacture and install (2013) Our bespoke units and display tables for this leading luxury department were unveiled during The London Design Festival 2013. The relaxed glamour of spa and luxe bathing was the starting point, expressed in the textures of pure white lacquer, gleaming copper, cool marble and coloured glass. The design hits just the right note for a Heal’s shopping experience – fresh, original and with a handcrafted ethos at its core. Each of the 40 perimeter units is modular, so can be relocated in the future. Spec - Large lacquered display tables with copper-plated risers and banding - Lacquered perimeter units with toughened glass and copper accents - Soap counter with solid Carrara marble top, clad in copper and painted toughened glass - Copper-plated towel ladders and oval mirrors with a distressed finish. - Lacquered till and wrap units clad in painted toughened glass and copper

HEAL’S FLAGSHIP STORE

GOURMET KITCHEN DEPARTMENT Retail Design, manufacture and install (2013) The idea was to give the feel of real, working kitchens in a range of styles. We created new bays of display units and wall-mounted floating shelves, giving each a slightly different character by using materials that varied from 100-year-old reclaimed pine to painted toughened glass. The department’s existing bulkheads were clad with limed oak veneer and bespoke painted steel, uniting the bays. Finally, we gave the counters and floating shelves a limed oak veneer for a rustic feel. We ensured each bay could be adapted to changing trends. Spec - Bays in a variety of materials - Bulkhead cladding in limed oak and steel - Counters and floating shelves clad in limed oak veneer

HEAL’S FLAGSHIP STORE CHRISTMAS DEPARTMENT

Retail Design, manufacture and install (2013) We rose to the challenge to create a flatpack Heal’s Christmas Department, taking the traditional Christmas market as our inspiration. The central kiosks were designed with shelves, ladders and risers that provided ample surfaces to display stock, with decorations or dressing suspended from the rail above. Spec - Units in oak, with oak shelving, powder-coated steel ladders (fabricated by Paragon Metals Ltd) and lacquered peg boards - Free-standing kiosks with adjustable lacquered risers and oak shelving

CUSHION DEPARTMENT Our concept for these units – as with all the Heal’s fixtures – was to design and make them in the same way as we would a piece of furniture. This ethos felt particularly important here, so people could see the cushions in an appropriate setting. Sapele wood felt right, providing a natural backdrop for wool, linen and silk weaves. Bare steel bases, brackets and rails unite the scheme. Spec - Solid sapele modular perimeter units with distressed steel brackets shelves and rails

HEAL’S FLAGSHIP STORE SCARF DEPARTMENT

Retail Design, manufacture and install (2014) To complement the well-regarded Spa Department, the new Heal’s Scarf Area aimed to immerse the shopper in an intoxicating world of fabrics and textures. Our oak wall-mounted ladders incorporate luxe copper accents, while mirror-clad display boxes each sport our trademark scooped leg detailing. Copper accessory hooks are both useful and beautiful, linking the scheme with its neighbouring department. Ever practical, the ladders are all modular, so levels are easy to adjust up or down the frame. Spec - Oak wall-mounted ladders with copper accent - Mirror-clad display boxes - Copper accessory hooks

LIBERTY

JEWELLERY EMPORIUM Retail Design development, manufacture and install (2012) When Liberty wanted to revitalise its jewellery emporium on the ground floor of its iconic store, they turned to us to create an environment that reflected the heritage of Liberty and the dynamism of its contemporary designers. Our bespoke pieces mix sweeping curves and sharp angles, touches of brass and toughened glass. It all adds up to an on-trend, understated way to display dazzling jewellery by the likes of Dinny Hall, Koji, Pomellato, Iosselliani, Astley Clarke, Lulu Frost and Anna Sheffield. Spec - Curved display cabinets, perimeter units and till points - Toughened glass showcases with slide-out glass drawers - Brass vanity mirrors - All furniture fixtures are finished with a PU lacquer at 25%

LIBERTY

JEANS DEPARTMENT Retail Design development, manufacture and install (2012) For this exciting, large-scale project, we created long perimeter units from reclaimed railway yard timbers, antique Venetian glass and 100-year-old roof boards. We ran the look through to the fitting rooms, lining them with beech veneer, and cladding the entrance with more reclaimed railway flooring. Till and wrap units also incorporated basketball court flooring. Spec - Perimeter units with turned posts in solid sapele and reclaimed timber shelving - Base units and table risers in a mixture of reclaimed timber - Changing rooms lined in beech veneer and entrance clad in reclaimed flooring - Till and wrap desks clad in reclaimed boards

STELLA MCCARTNEY Retail Design development, manufacture and install (2012) Glam expanses of mirror with facetted edges, brass details and dark lacquer panelling set the tone for this prestigious concession. We clad the fitting rooms with mirrors with facetted corners, adding a step and detailing in solid brass. The entire area was illuminated with downlighting, with solid brass handle detailing added to the till points. Spec - Units and till points in lacquered panelling and facetted mirror glass - Mirror cladding in fitting room, with brass detailing

SCARF DEPARTMENT, CENTRAL ATRIUM Retail Design development, manufacture and install (2011-13) Scarves are synonymous with Liberty’s history, so the store wanted to reflect that heritage as well as Liberty’s continuing cutting-edge status. Our octagonal table tops subtly echo the atrium’s architecture, mounted on solid walnut splayed legs, while stands hark back to the hall’s classic layout in the Twenties. At a vast 3m high, the bronze-edged mirror was a challenge, but an essential finishing touch. Spec - Octagonal display tables with walnut legs - Till and wrap desks in precision-cut glass and brass - Large leaning mirror with brass surround

ALEXANDER WANG

LIBERTY / HARVEY NICHOLS / SELFRIDGES Retail Design development, manufacture and install (2011-2012) We are proud to have worked with Alexander Wang to create his concessions at Liberty, Harvey Nichols and, most recently, Selfridges. Selfridges - Patinated Steel Hanging rails with bases in solid Carrara marble and bronze - Powder-coated steel key-clamp frames for cargo net drapes - Concrete walls with Bronze logos - Steel plinths with a black patina - Cargo nets flown in from Alexander Wang, New York Harvey Nichols - Steel plinths with a black patina - Bespoke steel hanging system to match existing wall track Liberty - Concrete leaning wall with black steel surround - Handbag risers and display rails

ZAHA HADID ARCHITECTS / ZAHA HADID DESIGN GALLERY BOWLING GREEN LANE, GOSWELL ROAD AND HELLENIC CENTRE Interiors Design, manufacture and install (2009-11) We have worked with this renowned architect and designer on several occasions, creating freestanding archive storage units, shelving and meeting tables for the Zaha Hadid Architect Studios in Bowling Green Lane, and then an integrated unit of archive storage, shelving and tables for the architectural practice’s rooftop space in Goswell Road. Smaller projects include a set of free standing mirrors for the Fudge Salon Pop-up Salons hosted in the ZHD Gallery and a curved workstation for their IT department. We strived to create pieces that fit in with the practice’s image, but remain practical and adaptable. We also created a curved display wall and plinths for the Hellenic Centre presentation in 2010. Spec - All items in spray-finished MDF (table legs in hardwood)

BESPOKE KITCHEN / BOOKSHELVES / BATHROOM STORAGE HAMPTON COURT

Residential Design, manufacture and install (2014) Our brief was to add quality and richness to a brand-new kitchen. We decided to use cherry for a welcoming but high-end feel that would also complement an existing John Makepeace dining set. A solid cherry kitchen counter and a dresser with wine storage beneath were the key pieces; then we added a cherry surround to the kitchen to unite the scheme with three bar stools to complete the welcoming, handcrafted kitchen. We installed the bespoke floor-to-ceiling storage in the same home. It is made in white lacquered shelves outlined in solid oak edging with radiator grilles in solid patinated brass beneath. We originally installed this unit in the client’s previous home, then refitted it when they moved here – proof that bespoke is both tailored and flexible. Spec - Solid cherry dresser with wine storage - Solid cherry counter and surround - Custom bar stools in solid cherry with turned rails - Shelving in lacquered wood, oak and brass

DYER GRIMES ARCHITECTS ISLINGTON, LONDON

Residential Design development, manufacture and install (2011-12) We were asked to create bespoke fitted furniture for a sensitive refurbishment of an entire listed five-storey townhouse in Islington. We united all the floors of this handsome Georgian home by using American black walnut throughout, with a satin lacquer finish that lends a deeply luxurious but understated feel. Pieces ranged from a mirrored wall in the basement gym to a large, sleek entertainment unit in the living room, wardrobes and bathroom vanity units. Spec - Mirrored gym wall - Entertainment unit - Bedroom wardrobes - Bathroom vanity units, all in American black walnut with satin lacquer

WRAPAROUND LIBRARY AND FRENCH DOORS HAMPSTEAD, LONDON

Residential Design, manufacture and install (2012) We wanted to rework Seventies-style wooden paneling with this contemporary floor-to-ceiling wraparound library. We used solid sapele, an African hardwood with a grain reminiscent of teak, kept to simple, sharp lines and extended the shelving to the full height of the room to emphasise the proportions. Shelving extends up and over the set of French doors for the full-on enveloping feel. Spec - Shelving and wall paneling in solid sapele and sapele veneer - Hardwood French doors

CLUE TABLE BY MATTHEW ELTON HEAL’S DISCOVERS

Innovation and craftsmanship are synonymous with the Heal’s brand, and we are committed to sharing these values with Britain’s emerging design talent. Each year we bring together the work of the best up- and-coming furniture and homeware designers in our exclusive Heal’s Discovers collection. This autumn, three new designers are making their debuts, each keen to showcase their own individual take on sustainability and contemporary craftsmanship. East London-based designer and furniture maker Matthew Elton describes his style as ‘contemporary yet traditionally- informed’. His Clue table for the Heal’s Discovers range draws on the qualities of timeless British and Danish mid-century designs – both of which resonate with the company’s own design history. Clue is a solid but graceful piece with striking features; three hand-crafted oak legs support a gently bevelled round top, which is finished using the rich hues of fumed-oak veneer. ‘It has a weight at the top, but gradually becomes more delicate,’ Matthew explains. ‘The legs taper on both sides from the scoop detail, which gives them an elegant, stiletto-like look.’ Available exclusively at Heal’s

A FRAME COLLECTION

MATTHEW ELTON FOR AMBROSE 2014 The Ambrose collection is a range of intelligently designed furniture and essential products for all areas of the home, especially where space is at a premium. At Ambrose, ‘smart living’ means adding value through clever design. The design relies only on the angles of the legs and shelves to hold the piece firmly together and combines some traditional techniques. No glue or screws. The system has a two-part frame and is angled at 6 degrees in all directions to support the shelving as it slots together. The shelves incorporate a number of processes to create precision made slots with angles on all faces of the oak. This allows the shelves to wedge gently into position to stabilise the piece. To maintain a consistent colour, each finished A-Frame has been machined from a single piece of oak. The free standing shelves can be used as a room divider or in a series. It allows you to select components based on the configuration you require: tiered shelving system / desk shelf / hanging rail arrangement. Available exclusively at Ambrose
