THE AGORA: STUDENT UNION OF BROADCASTING Adaptive Re-use Project Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland Nominated for the RSUA Bronze Medal “Agora” and “Stoa” are the public and private discussion areas in the ancient Greek and Roman history of public squares. Every citizen can have access and debate for their own ideology in this platform. The Agora Student Union of Broadcasting aims to provide a space for students to make intellectual ideas and deliver them through old and new media. As users circulate to the top of the building, their initial thoughts are reinforced by wide range of discussions provided in the vertical “Agora”. Developed theories and ideas will be broadcasted throughout the country, as the Telegraph building had done in the past.
The digital site model is a groupwork of two people. My contributions includes 50% of the model.
Software used: Rhinoceros 3D AutoCAD Illustrator Enscape Photoshop
Spatial Arrangements In the design, the free-formed floorplates allow users to hear and get inspired by discussions happening on every level. This also simulates an ‘agora’ (a public square) in a covered area. The ‘stoa’ rooms are clinging onto the facades to maximise sunlight. Except for the debate rooms on the ground floor, they block signals and support raw discussions held by students.

URBAN COMMONS: BELFASTIAN CITY CENTRE New Built Project Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland
World-famous cities always build their centre near the riverside of seaside, where it allows possibilities of various activities and tourism. Yet, Belfast having its history of ship building, have been polluted by lead and toxic minerals. Over time, the river had been purified and can serve its citizens again. The project calls for citizens of Belfast to gather around, forming a new “urban common” that truly reflects the culture, the location of city and the users. It is a cultural hub and city centre. The 3 distinct buildings serves 3 purposes and had 3 references towards Belfast’s existing urban commons. Regarding children related facilities in the city, this project also aims to investigate how spaces for children could be layed out as part of the urban commons - typically, education, play and rest after school.
Software used: Revit AutoCAD Illustrator Twinmotion Photoshop
Case Study: Belfast Central Library + Custom House Belfast central Library and Custom House Square are both a popular urban commons which are free for the public to use.
The goal of the facade study is to understand the proportions of both buildings and thus integrate it in the design.
Due to the height of both buildings, accurate measurements are unfortunately hard to obtain. The drawings are estimated by counting bricks and educated guesses.
Case Study: Spirit of Belfast The public sqaure is located in the city centre, connecting with the widely adored Victoria Square shopping centre.
Spirit of Belfast is a public art sculpture built in 2009 by artist Dan George. The human figures in the drawings are traced from a time lapse video taken on a Saturday in April.
The drawings have shown real activities in the urban commons. Unfortunately, it is still apparent that Belfast has not yet a designated space for children to enjoy.

PART I WORK EXPERIENCE: TDO ARCHITECTURE, LONDON Duration: 6 months Location: Southwark SE1
Working in a design-oriented company like TDO had provided me insights of the early stages of architectural design. From participating in client presentations to being a staff helper at open house events, I have been trained in a wide range of aspects apart from CAD drawings and 3D modelling. My roles also includes site visiting and surveying, joining design meetings, typing in schedules and answering company phone calls. Despite enjoying my time in the company, I still believe the industry is full of aspirations and would be eager to continue broadening my horizons.

PRE-APP PROJECT: QUAY WEST, UXBRIDGE RIBA stages: 0-2 Quay West is a project located at Uxbridge next to the Colne river and the Grand Union Canal. The site is at the edge of London, located inside the Chilterns Area. Its proximity to the river gave the site a history of being surrounded by large industrial buildings due to the influence of ship-building back in time.
The site was historially known for ship-building
The project was on RIBA stage 0-2, which is mainly focused on pre-application of the scheme. The process of the pre-application acts as an evidence that the land has its future developing potential and thus raises the value of the existing site. Prefabricated units with industrial aesthetics

OFFICE RENOVATION PROJECT: AMR OFFICES RIBA stages: 0-2
AMR Offices has been a long time partnership with TDO Architecture. This interior design project is served as a friendly service for the company. I was assigned to go on-site to take measurements and then discuss about the design with the directors.

NOSTALGIA: A LONGING FOR HOMECOMING The artwork conveys a personal interpretation of my thoughts while exploring the streets of London, presented through a combination of collage and illustration. Having resided in the UK for five years, I’ve consistently drawn inspiration from its evolving culture and urban landscapes.
At times, the scenery triggers memories of my homeland, a former British colony. Exhibiting a dreamy yet solitary ambiance, the project explores an alternate vision of the lively Portobello Road Market in London, intricately merged with the cityscape of Hong Kong.
A distinctive aspect of Hong Kong’s architecture lies in its unique interactions between the streets and their inhabitants. The streetfood stalls, or ‘Dai Pai Dong,’ serve as a communal space for people to gather. Similarly, Portobello Road Market adopts a comparable approach, allowing tourists to freely stroll along sections of the road. Both locales resonate with a festive atmosphere for me.
Specifically crafted for the illustration are classical characters from Hong Kong comics, contributing to a mixed sense of being in an undefined space—neither entirely in London nor in Hong Kong. These figures also introduce an additional layer of surrealism to the scene, evoking a feeling of a bygone era captured in a drawing.
The greater the impact it has on the vibrancy of the streets. Streets have always belonged to the people, serving as spaces for gatherings, entertainment, purchasing daily necessities, and engaging in various day-to-day activities.
The proximity between the local community and accessible street spaces is crucial for the well-being of residents. Public transport vehicles serve as strong representations and make a lasting impression on a city.
Hong Kong, a former British colony, continues to use a similar type of bus to those found in London. Trams, once prevalent throughout the UK, maintain their presence in Hong Kong. Despite their slow travel speed, these forms of transportation are widely admired by both tourists and locals for their elegance and uniqueness. With a shared origin, trams and London buses surprisingly complement each other well within the context of London.
