Message from the Principle Prof. Maurice Grech Dear Students, It is a pleasure for me as Principal of MCAST to introduce to you our tenth Prospectus. The prospectus aims to provide you with a snapshot of the various institute campuses, and provides information regarding the range of courses on offer. To those students who shall be new at College, thank you for considering MCAST as your preference where to study during academic year 2011-2012. I am aware that, on Open Day, many of you would have already visited and toured the institutes they are interested in. However, I would still invite you to read through the prospectus and to talk it over with your parents, friends, career advisers and teachers. Both the MCAST Guidance Team and the Careers Advice team can work with you in order to plan your individual programme of study and make the right choice for the future. Of course the final decision should be yours and yours alone, since it is important that you choose the course that is best matched to your abilities, interests and future aspirations. Needless to say, all MCAST staff shall also be keen to meet those thousands of continuing and progressing students who are returning to their institutes after the summer break. I sincerely wish that you all had a well-deserved rest and that you are looking forward to another year of successful activity. MCASTâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s excellent reputation follows the outstanding performance registered during the last ten years. Our achievements came about by design and not by coincidence. Although not often publicized, I would like to state that we do listen to our students and on the basis of what they have to say, we take the action necessary to maintain standards and to provide what is expected from a centre of vocational excellence. MCAST works with its partners in education, training and employers to develop the right training which meets the needs of Maltese industry and the economy as a whole. The nine MCAST institutes and the MCAST Gozo Centre have an excellent teaching and learning ethos which is complemented by outstanding resources and subject expertise. It is up to you to make the most of the broad and balanced choice of courses available at the level which is appropriate to meet your needs. In case you wish to benefit from additional support while at college, MCAST has members of staff who are trained to support your individual learning needs. One-to-one appointments may be arranged both before joining and after you start a course of study. It is often said that a happy relationship exists where there is a lot of give-and-take. We do expect you to be enthusiastic and well motivated, with a genuine desire to improve and succeed. You must be able to work with others more than you ever did before and show concern for the welfare of the college as a whole as well as the wider local community. I look forward to meeting you in college.

BA(HONS) IN FINE ARTS ABOUT THE COURSE

Rigward il-kors

This one-year programme tops up the Higher National Diploma in Fine Arts. The course deals with the practice, history and theory of contemporary art. It approaches the study and practice of art in an investigative, experimental and researchminded way. The majority of the course content is studio-based and students develop their own work with tutorial and technical assistance according to their individual needs. A degree in the area of visual arts prepares you to enter a variety of related fields within the creative industries. Fine artists typically work independently, specializing in preferred art forms. Your future could include painting, sculpting, print-making, photography, digital applications and drawing/illustration.
