About me I’m a Manchester based designer specialising in graphic design, branding, illustration and photography. I have eight years of experience in helping to distil and visualise the ideas of clients of all sizes, from big brands to small local charities. I prefer cats to dogs, learnt to ride a bike before I could walk, and like to smell books when nobody’s looking.

MEC CONNECTIONS MEDIA PACK 2015 EE

MEDIA PACK - MEC & EE Tasked by media agency MEC and mobile provider EE to design a layout for a media pack template, which could be sent to journalists and influencers to give them a snapshot of new and upcoming advertising campaigns. The stylised approach I used was really well received – a welcome break from dry Word documents and death-by-PowerPoint!

Bringing Freedom BRINGING FREEDOM DISPLAY BANNER A banner and graphic identity for a UK charity with an amazing mission – campaigning against trafficking.

Let’s Combat Human Trafficking Together

We proudly support:

MANCHESTER CHARITY N-GAGE LOGO Asked to work on a refresh of the N-Gage logo, my research soon uncovered that the most common approach to the ‘engage’ concept is to show elements linking together, engaging. I wanted to create something fresh, so thought back to the work the charity does. They engage through talking to young people in a relevant way. Conversation is key, so I incorporated two speech bubbles to form the ‘N’ using negative space.

PULSE LOGO This is a logo for a piece of security software. Again, one image has been used a lot around the word ‘pulse’ – a heartbeat monitor. I preferred the concept of a pulse spreading outwards, like radar waves, which encapsulates the monitoring job the software is designed to do.

‘LOCAL’ GIG POSTER A promotional poster to showcase a night I promoted and DJed at – Cord Bar, Northern Quarter, Manchester. I also had loads of fun creating a series of animated stings that we projected on the walls to help craft the identity of the night.

‘ADVENTURES IN VHS’ BOOK COVER A book cover for a local author, who’s written a book about his beloved VHS format and all the cult B-movies that may or may not have graced the shelves of your local Blockbusters, before the DVD and the download took over.

LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL YOUNG PEOPLE’S SERVICE Two postcard designs for Lancashire County Council’s department for looked after young people. I set out to create something striking and fun, but with a strong motivational message. The concept went down really well with the young people on the focus group I consulted before the design phase.

A THOUSAND WORDS I love words. Perhaps that comes from my Mum - a librarian all her life. My Dad was a draughtsman, so I guess my interests are pretty evenly traceable back to both parents! My dad was a brilliant craftsman, not just on a drawing board but also designing things out of metal (mainly bike frames). Another one of his passions was photography. With a keen eye for colour and composition, he loved taking wildlife and landscape shots. I share his love of getting out into Creation (also mainly on bikes!) but I also love urban environments - architecture, industrial artefacts, spaces full of people and activity. In a way there are a whole host of these harmonies in my life - elements that taken separately might seem to contrast. As with great graphic design, sometimes a mixed-bag of styles can result in something amazing - a bit like Manchester itself... Red and blue, industrial and natural, rock and techno, grace and truth.
