THE NEW YORK TIMES CROSSWORD PUZZLE | EDITED BY WILL SHORTZ
e were on our Sunday morning 30-mile ride around Central Maui, when I turned around and realized that something was up because my rider partner was not behind me like he was supposed to be. I turned around and found him a mile back, a bloody mess. He had hit road debris, went down hard and used his body to scrape a layer off of Hansen Road. With him was a lovely young lady WHO saw him go down, stopped her car and directed traffic until he was able to get up. She was preparing to take him to hospital but after we reassured her my partner is one tough customer and was under control, she drove away. Such a lovely, caring person gives me hope for humanity and one more reason to declare Maui No Ka ‘Oi.
