Now I may be wrong, but I think war on Iraq is extremely unnecessary. Starting and winning a war is an unneeded way for a political leader to gain recognition. Someone needs to tell Bush that he’s already famous for 1. Stealing the election, and 2. Causing a group of terrorists to attack New York. Now Saddam Hussein may be harboring weapons of mass destruction, and he may use them, but it is absolutely unethical to attack without being provoked. That’s what makes us Americans. In my opinion Hussein has been overly cooperative with all of the accusations that have been thrown on him. If G.W. really needs to attack a country, why doesn’t he try Saudi Arabia? Sure they’re our allies and sure they export their petroleum at ridiculously high prices, but they lied to our face. There are a number of confirmed cases of American citizens being held against their will in Saudi Arabia. Specifically young children with American mothers and Saudi Arabian fathers. Prince Bandar Bin Sultan himself declared, “It is absolutely not true,” in a letter he wrote to President Bush. Also Saudi Arabia never apologized to the fact that 15 of the terrorists on those fateful planes were citizens of their country. Not to mention control of the country would give us our own self-serve gas pump. You may be thinking how could we win? I say very easily; Saudi Arabia is a country run by rich, arrogant, and lazy royals, and is filled with poor uneducated Muslims. In order to defend themselves in a war, they would have to ship in foreign paid soldiers. Plus, as we already know, their middle-eastern counterparts are not only few, but not much of a challenge. No war is our best option, but if it must happen we should seriously consider Saudi Arabia, the country who claims to be our friend, yet has actually taken hits against us. Kellie Holiday, Lahaina

NEWS
I just finished watching the last two hours of the 6 1/2 hour Maui Planning Commission public hearing on a proposed rule for shoreline setbacks. The setbacks would be based on measurements of past shoreline erosion, and predicted erosion over 50 years. Since I know little about shoreline erosion, I turned to Google on the net, and found a document that I hope most of the testifiers will read before the Planning Commission resumes its consideration of the rule in late January. The document is "Executive Summary : Evaluation of Erosion
Hazards", a report to FEMA in June 2000 from the Heinz Center for Science, Economics, and the Environment. The summary runs 27 pages, while the full report runs 254 pages. It can be found on the web page http://www.fema.gov/nwz00/erosion.shtm, or by asking Google for FEMA and "beach erosion". The study was done for FEMA by the Heinz Center to find out what costs the government's Flood Insurance program will be faced with, due to coastal erosion. Earlier studies had developed actual erosion rates for many areas, including Massachusetts, which has 200 years of data. The highest erosion quoted for Massachusetts was the south shore of Nantucket, at 8 feet a year. In introducing the study, the director of FEMA said , "In fact, in the next 60 years 25 percent of the homes within 500 feet of the shore will be overtaken by erosion. There are 87,000 structures within the 60 Year Zone. And 10,000 structures at risk in the next 10 years." I applaud the Maui Planning Commission and the department staff for tackling this difficult question, instead of blindly sticking their heads in the rapidly vanishing sand. Sally Raisbeck, Wailuku
SPECIAL ELECTION I really miss Patsy Mink. She was an amazing woman – compassionate – and fearless in her fight against discrimination and for those who needed help. She left so quickly that there is a place in me that is still grieving her passing. Now, I have to make a choice on who will fill her place in the Hawaiian federal delegation in the special election in January. The last special election just held was for a 30 day period, now we will vote on the full 2 year term. Who out of this field of so many candidates could possibly have a chance to carry on in her place? I don’t want my vote to just go to anyone – I don’t think it would be respectful to the Patsy Mink I knew and cared so much for. When I heard Ed Case was willing to vote for the war in Iraq, this dismissed the possibility of him being my choice. Then I met state senator Colleen Hanabusa from Wai’anae. I was really impressed. Her history has been one of standing up for the rights of people – and as I listened to her and her intelligent, wideranging and impassioned way of speaking, I realized that she was quite capable of picking up Representative Mink’s legacy – and carrying it forward. Please – take the time to listen to senator Hanabusa if you can – or talk to people from her district - and vote for her in the upcoming special election. I really feel it is important to send someone who can honestly carry on such a great woman’s work in our nation’s capital. Sean Lester, Haiku

WE NEED SANTA FOR AN AIR MARSHALL
where it was before 9/11/01 and people are protesting the government’s actions in Iraq even though they’re keeping in line with earlier pledges to rid the world of terrorists. If we can forget the effects of 9/11 that quickly then how can we expect the holiday aloha to stick around for more than a month without Santa being here to enforce it? I truly love the holidays, thanks to the music, the food, and the decorations. And it’s nice to see people wish each other, acquaintances and strangers alike, good tidings. Even if it is going to disappear with Santa’s sleigh come the New Year.
One good thing about this time of year is watching everyone force themselves to be nice to one another. And you know who deserves all the credit for this once-a-year turnaround? Santa. We all found at one time or another – painfully, most likely – that Santa occupied the same little corner of the universe as the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny. That little corner of the universe called our imaginations. But the thing is, after all these years, we still turn on the good behavior when jolly old St. Nick begins to stir. He knows when you are sleeping He knows when you’re awake He knows when you’ve been bad or good So be good for goodness’ sake Forget living in fear of the wrath of God, we live in fear of the wrath of Santa. We may not be six years old anymore but we’re still afraid of waking up on Christmas morning and finding a lump of coal in our stocking. This is why we act so nice to each other when Santa begins to wake from His year-long slumber, even if we know we’ll return to our normal dastardly deeds when He heads back to the North Pole and hibernation. It’s unfortunate that Santa can’t just circle the globe in his sleigh all year long so we can have the holiday spirit 24/7 but that would be asking too much of ourselves anyway. We may be able to put on the smiley face bright and shiny around December, but after that, it’s over. There are some people out there who believe in the inherent decency of people but that decency only seems to come out in the time of crisis. Or holidays. If you need proof of this just look at the months following 9/11/01. Patriotism was at an astronomical high. If you even considered thinking bad thoughts you were subject to crucifixion. And yet, look where we are now. Partisanship is right back
President Bush is scaring the holiday cheer right out of air traffic controllers this year by threatening to classify their jobs as commercial rather than inherently governmental. Federal Aviation Administrator Marion Blakely immediately went to calm the fears of air traffic controllers nationwide but that didn’t stop them from distributing leaflets at over 70 airports nationwide over the last three days that aimed to instill fear into already sketchy air travelers. Ironically, travelers should be afraid but not for the sake of the air traffic controllers. If that sector of the travel industry went private, how long do you think it would take them to become unionized? And once that happened, how long would it take them to realize their bargaining power and in turn, hold the entire nation’s air travelers hostage as they rallied for higher wage increases? We saw far too recently the power of striking unions who hold the keys to transit lanes when the dock-workers went on strike. France sees it on a regular basis when their truckers go on strike and virtually shut down the nation’s road delivery system. If air traffic controllers are privatized, they will hold in their hands the travel plans of the entire nation. And when they begin to fell the weight of that power, you can be sure they’ll dial up their local investment banker and ask just how high their salary demands should be.

ANOTHER WAR, STILL NO PROOF A Groundless Ground War Edges Nearer
Eleven days after September 11, 2001, Secretary of State Colin Powell promised to release proof that Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden were guilty of planning and executing the attacks on New York and Washington. “We will put before the world, the American people, a persuasive case that there will be no doubt when that case is presented that it is Al Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden, who has been responsible,” Powell told ABC News. National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice, speaking a few channels over, on CNN, echoed Powell’s pledge. “Clearly we do have evidence, historical and otherwise, about the relationship to the Al Qaeda network to what happened on September 11,” Rice said on Sept. 22nd. “We will begin to lay out that evidence and we will do it with friends, allies and the American people and others.” Afghanistan, along with Pakistan, had hosted Al Qaeda training camps. Al Qaeda, Bush said, had attacked us. So we bombed Afghanistan. The Bush Administration spent the next three months overseeing the dropping of explosives, killing an estimated 10,000 Taliban soldiers and at least 3,500 Afghan civilians. During the year since we installed a puppet ruler, Hamid Karzai, as interim Afghan president, at least 36 American soldiers have lost their lives defending Karzai’s fragile regime. So where’s Rice’s “evidence, historical and otherwise,” confirming that Al Qaeda carried out 9/11? Where is Powell’s “persuasive case”? The Bushies, as usual, are keeping mum. We, the American people, have yet to see the slightest shred of evidence tying Osama bin Laden, Mullah Omar, Michael Jackson or the Easter Bunny to the attacks. Fifteen months and still no proof! There are only three logical explanations for Bush’s failure to produce the goods: Al Qaeda and the Taliban had nothing to do with 9/11. Possible, but unlikely. Who else would have done it? What with the war and all, the Bushies simply forgot to write up a report. Impossible. If proof existed, the Administration would have released it to make people like me shut up. The evidence is circumstantial at best. Now we’re talking. More likely than not, American intelligence strongly suspects bin Laden et al. but can’t prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Police detectives are repeatedly frustrated by this dilemma. What do you do when you know in your gut that a suspect is guilty, but

you don’t have enough evidence to press charges? The answer is painfully obvious; you let the bastard walk. In a society based on law, evidence must be sufficiently compelling in order to charge a defendant, much less convict him. To settle for less is to sacrifice the essential principle of our nation which holds that everyone--even radical Islamists-is presumed innocent. George W. Bush, an unscrupulous man whose arrogant contempt for the law elevated him to the White House, despises basic American values. He acted as Afghanistan’s judge, jury and executioner--without even possessing sufficient proof to charge bin Laden in an American court. Now, however, Bush is paying a price for the decision not to lay his cards on the table regarding Afghanistan. While 90 percent of voters say they don’t doubt that Saddam Hussein is developing weapons of mass destruction, 72 percent told a Los Angeles Times poll on Dec. 15 that Bush has not yet provided enough evidence to justify starting a war against Iraq. This figure clearly includes many Republicans who otherwise support Bush’s policies. Most Americans have a gut feeling that Iraq has WMDs. But they don’t think a gut feeling is sufficient cause to go to war. Here we go again. Does the U.S. really possess proof, as it claims, that Saddam is up to no good? Or does it merely suspect--in other words, have a gut feeling--that Iraqi scientists are cooking up smallpox bombs hundreds of feet beneath the desert? The American people aren’t being allowed to see the evidence excusing the bloody war about to be waged in their name. Nor are the prospective allies whose help--and young men--we are requesting. “To say that we know but we won't tell you is not very persuasive,” Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, said. “It's not a poker game where you call your cards and call the other's bluff.” Incredibly, Bush even resisted turning over intelligence data on Iraqi weapons to the U.N., information might help inspectors prove that Saddam was violating the 1991 ceasefire agreement. Approval ratings for an American war on Iraq are slipping. Unless he coughs up definitive proof of Iraqi wrongdoing or calls off the whole thing, this latest oil-driven military misadventure may become Bush’s political Waterloo. Inouye, Akaka, and Habitat for Humanity Help Hawaiians Build Homes U.S. Senators Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka are honorary co-chairs for "Malu'ohai Phase 3," a self-help, affordable housing subdivision in Kapolei. The project will help 45 low- and moderate-income Native Hawaiian families build their own homes. The blessing/ground-breaking ceremony for the first 12 families --- and a special presentation to outgoing Hawaiian Homelands Chairman Ray Soon --- will be held this Saturday, December 21st, at 10am in the Malu'ohai subdivision, across the street from Kapolei High School. (Regretfully, Senator Inouye is unable to attend. Senator Akaka plans to be there). The senators are participating in The Houses The Senate Built program, a partnership between members of the United States Senate and Habitat for Humanity International to build decent, affordable homes in every state and raise awareness of the issue of poverty housing. "Everyone in the United States should have a decent home in which to live," said Senator Inouye. "The Houses The Senate Built is about neighbors helping neighbors in an effort to strengthen our communities by building decent, affordable homes with people in need." The Houses The Senate Built started on June 9, 2000, when the Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 319. The resolution called on all senators to build at least one
Habitat for Humanity house in their home state. Through the combined efforts of the senators, their families and staffs, local Habitat affiliates, homeowner families, volunteers and community partners, The Houses The Senate Built will provide homes for at least 100 families. Fortunately, Senators Inouye and Akaka felt the people of Hawaii could do more than build one house. Therefore, when this opportunity to help 45 Native Hawaiian families arose, they each felt this was the proper project for them to support. "The Houses The Senate Built effort is a powerful symbol demonstrating the commitment of a bipartisan Senate and numerous organizations to a common goal: Providing decent affordable housing for all Americans," Sen. Inouye said. Celebrating its 26th Anniversary year, Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical Christian ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. Founded by Millard Fuller, along with his wife, Linda, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates in more than 2,000 communities in 79 nations have built and sold more than 125,000 homes to partner families with no-profit, zero-interest mortgages. Honolulu Habitat for Humanity will celebrate its 15th Anniversary in a few months. It has built 43 homes for low-income families on Oahu, but has taken a quantum leap in its production capacity. Previously, it averaged building three houses a year. In the next year, however, it plans to build 50 homes.

The Point of No Return... The Titillating Art of Tattoo
You’ll never be quite the same after a visit to Skin Deep Tattoo. Like every parachute drop and every perfect wave, every tattoo has its ‘point of no return’. And while adrenaline rushes come and go, a tattoo lasts a lifetime. The art of Tattoo has graduated over the past decade from a fringe or sub-culture practice into a mature and legitimate fine art form. Always curious about unconventional art, we made an appointment at Maui’s oldest tattoo

shop, Skin Deep in Lahaina. What better place to examine the world of tattoo, than from under the needle itself and David Whitney has volunteered to take up the challenge. A stroll down the narrow sidewalks of hot and sunny Front Street takes us to an inconspicuous door through which we climb a narrow staircase. Once upstairs, we enter the cool, clean and spacious environment of Skin Deep. “Flash Art” covers the walls, and portfolios full of photos fill the counters, offering up ideas and examples to the curious clients. Tattoo artist, Jaxon, greets us with a copy of David’s design idea.
Although Tattoo has gained a new respect in recent years, it is far from being a new art form. Tattoos have been important to many of the world’s indigenous cultures, where they were used in tribal rituals as evidenced by ancient bodies found mummified in glacial ice. In fact, before there was canvas there was Tattoo. The grueling and truly painful process of ancient tattoo methods limited the number and character of those who would receive one. The invention of the tattoo machine, originally based on a design for a metal engraver in 1891, has over the years, made tattoo more accessible and a lot less painful and danger-
ous. The modern machine used today is based on a design from 1929. While the machine itself has not changed much in decades, it has dramatically changed the kind of people who give and receive tattoos. Skin Deep was opened in 1976, by Taunee, one of the few woman tattoo artists in the US at the time. With the success of her shop, she went on to apprentice many other women in her 20+ years in the business. In fact, at one
By Adrianne Martinez and David Whitney time, all of Skin Deep’s artists were women. Taunee was also instrumental in getting tattoo related health and safety laws on the books in Hawaii. Now living on the mainland, Taunee is still part owner and friend to the shop. In 1976, attitudes about tattooing were very different than they are today. Once considered only for bikers, criminals, sailors, or other miscreants, today’s tattoo recipients are as likely to be working professionals with dispos-
able incomes. Bigger demand means more artists and shops. These factors result in a broader artistic diversity in the trade. Today anything can be done from delicately detailed family portraits, to re-creations of actual paintings, to native or culturally inspired designs, to styles that are specific to the tattoo medium. Consequently, more and more artists are attracted to tattoo. In fact, even the oldschool tattoo-ists like Don Ed Hardy and Lyle Tuttle are now, in retrospect, being recognized as genuine artists. Over half of Skin Deep’s customers are tourists, many actually become “regulars” and wait until they return to Maui for their next tattoo. One repeat client, a nursing student, who works for Safeway in California, feels that she has never been discriminated against because of her tattoos. When she told her bank teller in California that she was going to Maui for vacation, he suggested that she go to Josh at Skin Deep. When bank tellers and grocery store clerks are recommending tattoo shops to one another, you know this art form has transcended its own stereotypes. Another client, Sean Brown, considers the guys at the shop to be like family to him. He enjoys his visits so much that he has decided to dedicate his whole body to Skin Deep’s artists. Sean’s “body suit” was started 7 months ago and at 4-5 sessions per month, the whole process is expected to take two more years to complete. Although his parents don’t understand his passion for pain and art, Sean, owner of his own security company on Maui, does not regret it for a moment. He feels that it has been a very personal, even spiritual experience. When asked why he does it, he responds “It’s not rebellion, I consider myself to be a really low-key type of guy.” Most people find it difficult to put into words the reason they get tattooed. That’s why “it” is said with a tattoo. There are memorials and homages, rebellious acts and sacred vows,

but it is always seen as Art. Whatever your reasons, one thing is certain, tattoo is a way of defining and re-defining who you are, and sometimes defying who people think you are. Whether purely decorative, or deeply symbolic, every tattoo, to some degree, reinvents the bearer - at least visually, if not also metaphysically. Some people are simply attracted to the challenge of enduring a painful experience, like a rite of passage. When asked about it, here’s what people told us: “It hurts.” “The feeling is more interesting than painful, totally unique.” “I forgot how painful it is, this will be my last one.” “Feels good, like being pampered.” “I like the anxiety I get just before getting tattooed.” “Meditative.”
in doing something creative that is permanent. Josh Flinn, is college educated, with BA in art and minor in art history. He was born and raised on Oahu and has been tattooing at Skin Deep for 5 years. Growing up in the islands, Josh had an early fascination with the traditional body art of Polynesian cultures. Once out of school, finding it difficult to make a living as a “political” painter, he turned his focus to Tattoo. When he began giving tattoos, his biggest concern was hurting the person. It didn’t take long to learn: “No pain, No stain.” Josh says that the finished tattoo belongs to the customer, but adds that it will always belong to the artist as well. Clients essentially become walking-talking billboards. Jaxon has been tattooing for 5 years; he apprenticed under his older brother Spike, who has been with Skin Deep for 7 years. Jaxon remembers the apprenticeship as being long and grueling. Stuck with nothing but the
actually made the shop their ‘second home’ and are considered permanent members of the crew. These types of working vacations are common throughout the industry. Consequently the world of tattoo is inter-connected as a community on a global level. David was happy to have Jaxon, known for his lighter touch, as the artist for his tattoo. Regarding his choice of design David said, “The image I chose marks my life in Hawaii and is an ‘unspoken’ commitment to my life partner, it will be like a visual poem etched into my skin.” Not much of a talker, Jaxon got right to work making sure that the complex design fit properly around David’s forearm, this involved subtle angling and shaping of the stencil. Once ready, he began by introducing David’s skin to the needle with a short easy line. Meticulous in the care and preparation of his equipment, Jaxon remained focused. As the tattoo progressed, David found the atmosphere and the process to be relaxing, yet had to resist the urge to twitch now and then from the sting of the needle. Two hours later, David is the proud owner of an eye-catching armband. When asked if he was happy with his decision, David responded, “It’s funny, with this tattoo, I actually reveal a little more about myself that others wouldn’t necessarily see and as a result they’ll be even more uncertain about who I am. I like that.” Without a doubt Skin Deep, and its artists live up to their reputation for technical skill, creativity and experimentation. When asked if he would do it again? David replies, “I’m already designing my next tattoo.”

“Some spots actually feel good, and others are very painful, but I keep coming back for more, they’re so beautiful.” “I like it when old ladies clutch their handbags when I walk by.” As David’s own “point of no return” draws closer, he comments, “I’m eager to wear it, it will immediately redefine how people see me. There’s an energizing rush of anticipation, knowing that I am committing to this permanent expression of myself.” Naturally, we wanted to know something about the artists of Skin Deep who would be executing this very personal, if not painful alteration of David’s waiting skin. Here’s what we found out: Circle, has been professionally tattooing for 8 years and previous to working at Skin Deep he owned his own shop in Eugene Oregon. Circle always painted and drew as a kid, and got into getting and giving tattoos at a young age. He says that tattooing is such an integrated part of his life that he often dreams about it at night. He likes his job and looks forward to coming to work everyday. For him there is a gratification

dirtiest and most unpleasant parts of the job and without pay, it was two years before he actually touched needle to skin. This type of apprenticeship is traditional in tattoo culture and still widely practiced in the trade. It weeds out those not committed enough to make the sacrifice, and it adds to the level of appreciation of those who do “graduate.” One artist referred to apprenticeship as “a humbling experience.” All of the artists consider it a privilege to be in their profession, and express a strong feeling of pride in their work and in the shop’s reputation. They appreciate how rare it is to be creative every day, getting paid to do what they love. Another benefit to the job is having “visiting artists” come to Hawaii to work with them. It is a great way to continue learning and keep the inspiration flowing. Skin Deep hosts many such artists from all over the world; a few have

LEAD STORIES Next in the England-to-U.S. TV Pipeline: The newest reality TV show scheduled by London's Channel 5 for 2003 is a celebrities-in-detox series, in which marginally known entertainment personalities go to an island for a week to undergo enemas and colonic irrigation, with full camera coverage. A station spokeswoman told The Independent, "The celebrities will have to survive for a week on oral enemas, which basically means drinking things like olive oil. They'll also be analyzing their own poo." Some callers to Boston's major homeless shelters became angry that their requests to help out this year on Thanksgiving and Christmas day were rejected because the shelters have too many volunteers on those days (yet too few on the other 363 days a year). A Boston Globe reporter found that volunteers even try to cajole officials to bump them up the waiting list (170 on one shelter's list, which started accumulating names in August), but express disappointment at suggestions that they help at less "popular" (and less prestigious) suburban shelters.

Slow Crime Days: Two St. Petersburg, Fla., police officers were suspended in November after allegedly using their in-car terminals to send each other a total of 4,232 non-duty messages in a one-month period (about 10 messages each, per work hour). James Sabatino, already serving time in a Putnam County (N.Y.) prison for attacking a federal officer and having recently served time in England for a telephonebased scam, had his telephone privileges removed because Putnam officials said he spent almost eight hours a day on prison phones, for five months, before they caught him in another scam. According to officials cited by the New York Post in November, Sabatino called phone companies and convinced them he was doing movie shoots and needed dozens of cell phones quickly (and was able to order about a thousand activated phones, delivered to places arranged by his girlfriend, without spending a penny).

Sadomasochism practitioner Steven H. Bailey, 54, was indicted in St. Paul, Minn., in November in the bondage death of a sexual partner (one of 5,000 he said he's had); Bailey calls himself "The True Master" of his craft but allegedly failed to render assistance when his partner stopped breathing through the chloroform-soaked bag over his face. And in November, The Washington Post disclosed that one of the members of the United Nations weapons inspection teams headed for Iraq was also an uncloseted

LEAST COMPETENT PEOPLE Capt. Van Fussell, a Florida Highway Patrol district commander in Venice, Fla., accidentally shot himself in the foot as he was holstering his Glock pistol while taking his annual firearms test in November. (He'll have to take it over.) And the previous week in Brooksville, Fla., homeowner Jimmy Batten walked in on Sean Todd Duval, 26, who had apparently broken in to steal Batten's guns. Batten was puzzled that Duval did not try to run away, but the reason was that minutes earlier, Duval had accidentally shot his left middle toe off with one of the guns and was so despondent that he told Batten: "Finish me off. Go ahead and blow my brains out."
UPDATING RECENT NEWS OF THE WEIRD STORIES New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he was considering purchasing out-ofservice cruise ships to alleviate the nightly overcrowding at the city's emergency shelters (November). And prominent, board-certified Independence, Mo., psychiatrist Donald Hinton, who seriously swears that he has been treating Elvis Presley for the last five years, was put on probation in November by the state for overprescribing a painkiller to a patient (not Elvis). And the Urbana, Ill., mother who was still breastfeeding her 8-year-old boy lost partial custody of him to the state (November).
UNDIGNIFIED DEATHS A 46-year-old non-swimmer drowned in his apartment house pool during an attempt to overcome his fear of the water (Galesburg, Ill., October). A 73-year-old man died from the extreme heat caused when a thermostat broke and would not shut off (creating such heat that, for example, all of the water evaporated from a toilet) (Great Falls, Mont., November). A 21-year-old student accidentally strangled himself with his belt, which he had looped around a door handle in a contraption to keep his head from nodding off during a marathon study session (Bangkok, Thailand, July).
ALSO, IN THE LAST MONTH ... Two customers and an employee were trapped inside Sam's Mini Market for two hours on Thanksgiving Day by successive swarms of bees that coated the front door, until firefighters foamed them off (Chatsworth, Calif.). Panda bear experts announced that "dating" software had been developed to match males' and females' personality characteristics so as to improve mating opportunities (Beijing). An aboriginal Manitoba (Canada) woman alleged racial profiling when she was not allowed to buy hairspray at an Extra Foods store, probably because owners feared she only wanted to drink it (Winnipeg). Britain's Office of Fair Trading charged the toy company Hasbro (maker of Monopoly) with retail price-fixing.

2002 PERFORMANCE Andy dominated the year from the outset, posting back-to-back wins in Australia and then his favorite venue at Teahupoo, Tahiti, for a commanding ratings lead. He then locked in a runner-up finish in France, before claiming another victory the following tournament in Spain. He only entered one WQS event, but reached the final of the Vans Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa. His consistency and abundance of talent shone through in 2002, as the Hawaiian convincingly secured his maiden world title at the penultimate WCT at Sunset Beach.

Memorial Surf Contest To Help Save Wave At Ma'alaea This year the Surfrider Foundation, Maui Chapter will sponsor the Ho'okipa Surf Classic in Memory of Justin Roberson, whose promising professional surfing career ended in 1989 when he died at the age of 19 after accepting a ride with a drunk driver. Proceeds from the sale of contest T-shirts will help Surfrider sustain its public awareness campaign to Save the Wave at Ma'alaea, and engage in a legal battle if necessary to stop negative impacts posed to surf sites at Ma'alaea by government plans to expand and renovate Ma'alaea Small Boat Harbor. In peril is a majestic surf site known as Off the Wall and at risk is the world-famous Freight Train, AKA the world's fastest makeable wave. The surf contest also advises youth to exercise caution on the roadways in order to "live to ride again." Donations to the Ho'okipa Surf Classic will help Save Ma'alaea's Freight Train and promote roadway safety for youth. Official ASP 2003 Men's WCT Seed Positions Following the final 2002 World Championship Tournament (WCT) Tuesday, December 17, at Pipeline, official positions for the 2003 WCT were decided. Together with surfers who re-qualified through the WCT ratings and those who made it on the 2002 World Qualifying Series (WQS), the World Professional Surfers (WPS) body within the ASP announced their three-wildcards for fulltime spots on next year's elite tour. WPS representative Kieren Perrow (Aus), who finished 7th on his maiden WCT attempt in 2002, explained the election of candidates for the highly thought after positions, from the meeting held just over a week ago. "The WPS wildcards were decided at the WPS meeting on December 8th," said Perrow. "39 WCT and WQS competitors were in attendance, and after the meeting votes were tallied twice and averaged to determine the wildcard positions as follows:
1st went to Flavio Padaratz (Brz), due to injury 2nd to Guilherme Herdy (Brz), due to injury 3rd to the 28th position on the final WCT ratings 4th to Dean Morrison (Aus), due to injury 5th to 16th position on the WQS ratings 6th to 29th position on the WCT 7th to Zane Harrison (Aus), due to injury Since Flavio Padaratz qualified on the WCT with his result in the Xbox Pipeline Masters, however, the wildcards were allocated to the next three from the vote rankings. Thus, Guilherme Herdy, Shane Powell in 28th position, and Dean Morrison were allocated the spots." Below are the official seeds, in order, for the 2003 WCT. These can be selected through a separate Trials event, or given to sponsored surfers, or regional champions. The decision is entirely up to the events. Maui Tacos Christmas carolers! For me they are not bearers of joy, but harbingers of hectic holiday traffic and crowds of stressed out people looking for that perfect last minute gift for their special someone. What does this have to do with food? I stand now at low ebb in a sea of shoppers at Queen Kaahumanu Center, reading through the menu at Maui Tacos. Poor choice of timing on my part, but I’m stuck with it now. The crew behind the counter is moving efficiently, turning covers at an impressive rate. The menu is classic Mexican with “Mauitude”. As far as I can tell, that means naming their burritos after local places like Puamana, Ho’okipa, La Perouse, and Napili. Hey, the Paia’s a salad burrito. Imagine that. These guys are veggie friendly with almost as many vegetarian selections as not. The burritos come with various combinations of rice, black or pinto beans, potato, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and fresh salsa at prices ranging from $3.99 to $6.95. Choices of meat include marinated broiled chicken or steak, fish, and ground beef. In true Americanized Mexican fashion, the rest of the menu is filled out with endless incarnations of the same basic ingredients; hard and soft tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas with red or green sauce, tostadas, quesadillas, and nachos. The requisite taco salad in a crispy tortilla shell also makes an appearance. A nice feature at Maui Tacos is the self-serve fresh salsa bar conveniently set to the side of the pick-up area. There’s the standard salsa, which is
good and fairly mild, the sweetly smoky chipotle salsa, a tangy green tomatillo salsa, a pineapple something-or-other that just doesn’t work, and another one made with some kind of fresh chile that I can’t remember. Yeah, I know, I should have taken notes, but I wasn’t necessarily in an organized state of mind with the crowds and the carolers weighing on me. That last one had a good heat, though, and was definitely my favorite. I pick up my food and pile it high with all the condiments, fresh chopped cilantro, jalapenos, and limes included. I got a combination plate with steak and chicken with red and green sauce respectively. This came with rice, refried beans, and chips, which are made fresh daily. A ground beef hard taco and the Lahaina burrito with chicken, rice, black beans, cheese, guacamole, and salsa complete my feast. I knew I’d never finish it all; I just wanted to try a few different things. The chicken and steak were both a step above your average Mexican tortilla fillers, but not exceptionally flavorful either. The ground beef in the hard taco was the best with a good, deep flavor. Everything at Maui Tacos is done fresh with a healthy emphasis. The beans are made without lard and the chips are fried in 100% cholesterol free vegetable oil. Sounds good, but for me, this is where they don’t quite hit the mark. My meal was a value for the price, but not distinctive enough to make it a regular stop. I think classic Mexican needs the rich decadence (I’m talking about the fat) to be satisfying. They’re obviously doing something right, with seven locations throughout the islands. Here on Maui you can try them at the Lahaina Square in Lahaina, Kamaole Beach Center in Kihei, Napili Plaza in Napili, and Kaahumanu Center in Kahului. Want healthy Mexican? Head to Maui Tacos!

WINE OF THE
WEEK
BY ANTHONY MOORE
Roederer Estate
Anderson Valley Brut - Estate Bottled $19.99 For those of you that will be looking for that special bubbly to ring in the new year here is the pick for you: The Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut. Louis Roederer, a well-named champagne house, has been making bubbly since 1776. They are best known for their special make Cristal champagne (got the gold Cristal chillin’ in the fridge). Roederer has a California project that is producing fine examples of the real thing! Being that it is from California it cannot be called a champagne so they have aptly named it a California sparkling. The best thing is it won’t break the pocket book. Champagne is a small region in France that has been producing sparkling wines with great success. The main grape that sparkeling wine is made from is the chardonnay, and pinot noir. But keep in mind, if it is not from Champagne, France, then you can’t call it champagne. Louis Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut is 100% grown in Anderson Valley’s cool climate, oak aged, and blended with their reserve wine to produce a beautiful example of California sparkling wine. Enjoy!

Wayne Brady Who is this Great Man? Wayne Brady is perhaps one of the funniest comedic actors on TV. His hilarious improvisational antics, paired with his ability to impersonate just about anyone, have won the laughs of many Americans on ABC's hit comedy series "Whose Line is it Anyway?" Now, two-time-Emmy-nominated Brady brings those same talents and more to a new syndicated talk/variety show for Buena Vista Television, which launched September 2, 2002. In addition, Wayne made history as the first African American to ever host the Miss America Competition in September of 2002. By the age of 16, Orlando native Wayne

He then moved to Los Angeles and performed at the prestigious Mark Taper Forum in its production of "Blade to the Heat," and made television guest appearances on series such as "I'll Fly Away," "Home Court" and "In the Heat of the Night." Wayne also starred in and produced "The Wayne Brady Show," a primetime variety show for ABC in 2001. He was also series regular on the syndicated sketch comedy show "Kwik Witz"
Brady had no plans of pursuing a career in entertainment. Little did he know that his chance performance in a high school play would garner rave reviews and permanently alter his longrange plans. While in Florida, Brady immersed himself in the central Florida theater community, performing in numerous stage productions, including "A Chorus Line," "Fences," "A

Wayne also brought the house down in an appearance at the 2nd Annual TV Guide Awards. In fact, the actor was so well received by the industry, that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences invited Wayne to perform solo at the 52nd Annual Emmy Awards in September 2000. The musical medley, which spoofed many of the seasons' top shows, including "The Sopranos" and "Survivor," was a hit, and as one critic said of the performance, "Brady Out-Crystaled Billy Crystal." Wayne scored a second Emmy Award nomination in 2002 for his work on "Whose Line is it Anyway" in the category of Best Individual Performance in a Variety or Musical. He has received several other accolades for his work in theater, including nominations for Best Actor in a Musical for "Cotton Patch Gospel" at the distinguished Edyth Bush Theatre. Wayne was also named Sak Theatre's 1992 Rookie of the Year for Theatre Sports/Improv. He continues to tour the country with his own improv show, "Wayne Brady and Friends," selling out the nations top theaters and venues. In addition, he and his wife Mandie recently opened a four-week run of the stage production, "The Only Game in Town" in Los Angeles. The Daily Variety called Wayne's performance as compulsive gambler Joe Grady "an absolute winner." Wayne Brady will perform 7pm Monday, December 30th at the Castle Theater, Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Tickets are $35, $40, and $45. Call the MACC box office at 242-SHOW.

PICKS FIRSTLIGHT FILMS Thursday thru Sunday, and Wednesday, at the MACC. All the best indie and otherwise films will be shown at THE most marvelous (it actually doesn’t smell!) theater on Maui. Don’t miss your chance, unlike Lilo & Stitch and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, these films won’t be here for six months straight.
FELLOWSHIP OF THE ROCK 9pm Saturday, at Mulligan’s. Three great bands that go great together! No overkill here, but you know how I feel about Anesthesia and Khrinj (uh, like, they rock and stuff), especially at this time of year (holiday shmoliday), and anytime you can catch a live music show with three bands for $5 on Maui, it’s wise to show up and encourage MORE of the same...you know what I’m saying?!
BLOOD DRIVE Thursday & Friday, at the Cameron Center in Wailuku. Even if you’re like me and feel like you have nothing left to give this season, you do! Your blood. And oh, what a rush. Better than eggnog the day after you down your uncle’s favorite whiskey and go surfing in your neighbor’s pitbull’s drinking bowl.
BOWLING My favorite inordinate, I mean innocent activity (besides going to strip clubs with friends on Oahu) (?!). So far there exists but one bowling alley - Maui Bowling Center in Wailuku. Once again, something we’re sorely lacking on the west side...
SHOEBOX EXHIBITION Through Saturday, at the Schaefer Gallery, MACC. This pint-size sculpture exhibit is actually pretty cool. It’s truly amazing what people all over the world are doing with their time and resources (creatively speaking, that is).

FILMCRITIQUE
BY COLE SMITHEY
Unclear On The Concept Frustration Satire Leads To More Frustration ) About Schmidt ( Jack Nicholson plays Warren Schmidt, a 66 year-old retired and widowed insurance man from Omaha who drives his 35-foot Winnebago cross-country to foil his daughter's upcoming wedding in this insultingly dim movie based on a novel by Louis Begley, from the once promising director of "Election," Alexander Payne. The humanity that Jack Nicholson brings to his heartfelt character is so deluged by the film's pitiable tone and suspicious dramatic arc that, in this case, it would be more interesting to watch Nicholson read a phone book than see him degraded as he is here. The dreary, banal, and insipid Midwest world that Payne ridicules must surely mistake the director's slurs and insults as fawning admiration if we are to believe the critics who hail this patronizing and dull film as a masterpiece. In its opening scene, Warren Schmidt sits at his desk in an empty office, waiting for the clock to strike 5 p.m., signaling his final departure from a life spent as an actuary analyst for a life insurance company. The sorrowful scene is comparable to the initiating of the recent Adam Sandler vehicle "Punch Drunk Love," where Sandler sits idly behind a desk waiting – like Estragon in Samuel Beckett's "Waiting For Godot" for nothing to happen. Both characters have lived as drones that suddenly awaken to challenge themselves on a playing field of life by way of pedestrian and arcane actions that resonate with a thud rather than a resonate sound. With a bit of disgruntled narration from sad-sack Warren, we learn that he's none too pleased with his frumpy wife Helen (June Squibb) of 42 years, who warns Warren not to dawdle when he makes a run to the post office. But Warren dallies long enough for Helen to drop dead on the kitchen floor from cerebral
edema while vacuuming. Warren is emotionally crushed and soon digresses into a bachelor slob that makes Oscar Madison look like a neat freak. It seems that Helen performed essential cooking and cleaning tasks that Warren knows nothing about. Warren's bitchy daughter Jeannie (Hope Davis - "Arlington Road") and her lowlife fiancĂŠ Randall Hertzel (Dermot Mulroney "Copycat") stay with Warren for Helen's funeral and criticize him for not spending enough on Helen's coffin. The distasteful couple makes it clear that they are the center of the universe and that Warren should feel free to contribute to their needs rather than the other way around. In the meantime Warren has started sending $22.00 a month to an organization that helps starving children in Tanzania to ease his guilt-ridden conscience about not contributing anything to society. But because of the film's faux-cynical tone, we are led to suspect that the television-promoted humanitarian organization is just a scam to bilk suckers like Warren. Within Warren's rose-colored vision of his distinctly unlikable daughter and his ranting letters to the 6-year-old Tanzanian boy Ndugu whom he believes he is supporting, lies the sluggish synergy that propels the movie. Warren believes his insolent daughter deserves someone better than a mullet-hairdo waterbed salesman, so he drives to Denver to ostensibly obstruct the wedding after making a melancholy visit to his hometown along the way. Once in Denver, Warren stays with Randall's insufferable mother Roberta (Kathy Bates), who stands as an offense to BBWs the world over. After wrecking his neck by sleeping on Randall's childhood waterbed, Warren makes the mistake of relaxing in Roberta's hot tub, which she assumes is an ideal opportunity to make a nude sexual advance on the somewhat contorted Warren. The scene is gross and unnerving at the same time because it reminds the audience curiously of a scene from
Jack Nicholson plays Warren Schmidt
"Misery," in which Kathy Bates' character hobbles the hapless author living in her house. Bad things seem to happen to men left alone too long with Kathy Bates who, as an actress, has ceased to create characters, choosing instead to amble through roles like some entitled matron of cinema. Warren Schmidt is presented as a hero of the elderly because he sets out to provoke and instigate change. But Schmidt succumbs to the same small-minded demands that enabled him to subjugate his personality for so many years to a disloyal corporation and to a woman to whom he shared no physical relationship.
"About Schmidt" is a hostility-provoking film for the same reason that America's citizens recently lost their civil rights; because the film endorses, nay lionizes complacency, inaction and the privilege of the inarticulate and greedy to steal whatever they covet simply because they are treacherous enough to do it. How Jack Nicholson strayed from representing antiauthoritarian iconoclastic ideals in such great movies as "Five Easy Pieces" and "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" is closely related to the way America has lost sight of the precepts upon which this country were built.

Based on Graham Greene's scathing anti-capitalist novel, "The Quiet American" articulates America's imperialist efforts beside Britain in Vietnam prior to the Vietnam War with realism and emotional integrity. Directed by Philip Noyce and shot in modern day North Vietnam passing for 1950's Vietnam. Rated R. 100 minutes (Miramax Films)
Friday, December 27 BLOODY SUNDAY ( ) - 2pm. Writerdirector Paul Greengrass' hyperrealist recreation of the historic 1972 deadly confrontation between British military and unarmed Catholic civil rights marchers in Londonderry is a devastating study of dirty military machinations that murdered 14 innocents and accepted no blame. Constructed from oral testimonies, and shot on gritty 16mm stock, the film has all the immediacy and startling importance of the harsh injustices suffered by the good people of Derry. Winner of the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize. Rated R. 110 minutes (Paramount Classics) Reviewed by Cole Smithey THE GUYS - 5pm. Anthony LaPaglia plays a fire chief dealing with the loss of several of his men due to the events of September 11th who enlists the help of Sigourney Weaver, who reprises her stage role as a journalist, to help him prepare the eulogies that he must deliver in back-to-back funerals. Despite the reality of the events described, the film ultimately is a celebration of friendship, love and life. (Focus Features) ADAPTATION ( ) - 7:30pm. Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper star in screenwriter Charlie Kaufman's ("Being John Malkovich") wacky adaptation of the "The Orchid Thief" by Susan Orlean. Although the film is being heralded as a "surrealist masterpiece," it's not much more than a mildly entertaining takedown piece attacking the rules of screenwriting as laid down by script guru Robert McKee. Nicholas Cage turns in his best work since "Leaving Las Vegas," but for actual surrealist brilliance, the films of Luis Bunuel have no peer. James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal are out of this world in this quirky exploration of a relationship built on erotic domination and submission between a mercurial lawyer and his masochistic secretary. "Secretary" could well be the best date movie ever. Clever, kinky, and packed with sexual tension, the film is an achievement in modern sexuality. Jack Nicholson plays a retired, widowed insurance actuary man from Omaha who drives his Winnebago cross country to foil his daughter's wedding in this insulting and mocking movie from the once promising director of "Election," Alexander Payne. This hostility-provoking film is one of the worst wastes of two hours I have ever endured in spite of Nicholson's always-laudable efforts. Also starring Hope Davis, Dermot Mulroney and Kathy Bates. Director Steve James ("Hoop Dreams") reconnects with his "little brother" Stevie, whom he once guided as a "Big Brother" (of the Big Brother organization) to see what the teenager's life has become in the decade since they were last together. The highly personal film is documentary filmmaking at its best. The heartbreaking story that unfolds points out the harmful potential of families, and the limited influence of outsiders to prevent destruction from occurring, while also exposing gaping holes in the "American" family unit. The impressive supporting cast includes Christopher Plummer, Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot), Tom Courtenay, Timothy Spall, Anne Hathaway and Nathan Lane. Rated PG. (MGM/UA) THE HOURS ( ) - 7:30pm. Michael Cunningham's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about Virginia Woolf, and two women from different eras that identify with her, is adapted into a darkly satisfying journey into human fragility. Meryl Streep stars as a contemporary New Yorker, Ed Harris as her former lover now struggling with AIDS, Julianne Moore as a depressed '50s wife and mother with lesbian tendencies, and Nicole Kidman as Virginia Woolf. Stephen Daldry ("Billy Elliot") directs this tapestry of human suffering. "The Hours" co-stars Claire Danes, Toni Collette, Jeff Daniels, Allison Janney, and Miranda Richardson. Wednesday, January 1 THE GOOD GIRL ( ) - 2pm. Downtrodden Texas suburb girl Justine (Jennifer Aniston) meets downtrodden Holden Caufield wannabe (Jake Gyllenhaal) in this charming dark comedy about the deceptive distances between a life filled with passion and a life of boredom. Aniston and Gyllenhaal are perfectly suited for their roles, and the movie works as a brief exploration of Americans who don't know "even what to imagine anymore." Rated R 93 minutes (Fox Searchlight Pictures) - Reviewed by Cole Smithey RABBIT PROOF FENCE ( ) - 5pm. From 1905 until the early 1970's, Aboriginal girls were taken from their families in the outback of Australia and shipped to faraway cities to be integrated into white society under a governmental ideology directed at breeding Australian Aborigines into extinction. "RabbitProof Fence" (directed by Phillip Noyce) is based on the true story of Molly Craig, a young Aboriginal girl who escaped with her sister and cousin from a government institution to walk 1,500 miles back to her family along the stretch of a "rabbit proof fence." Kenneth Branagh is well cast as government Chief AO Neville, whose job it is to track and procure Aborigines. Musical score by Peter Gabriel. Rated PG. 94 minutes

Eve will feature exotic experiences, fanatical philosophies, and long distance trips. You burn with a lust for sex and power. Business documents need to be gone over. 2003 brings rich love. TAURUS: Play your tune amidst changes and chaos. The ability to get along and have harmony is emphasized. New Year’s Eve parties will be like going to church in a brothel. All experiences teach us something. 2003 gives you a sense of your roots. GEMINI: Good relationships with harmonious activities should make your New Year's Eve sparkle. The need for intimacy and the desire to connect deeper keeps your mind wondering. Your communication resources will expand during 2003. CANCER: You're living like you were the God or Goddess of love and fecundity. Go out of your way to be kind to someone on New Year’s Eve. You have peace of mind amidst the drama. 2003 offers you a chance to explore your core values. LEO: You're likely to bring in the New Year partying your ass off. Your loving and generous nature takes over. People are drawn to you for comfort and artistic inspiration. An amazing year of growth and pleasure is in store for you. VIRGO: Being able to party with your relatives or housemates is one possible scenario for bringing in the New Year. Another possibility is that you're home alone. You're having a ball by being playful and or frisky. 2003 is a call to listen to your dreams. LIBRA: Sing your song with that unique voice of yours. Your sweetness has universal appeal. The New Year is likely to be celebrated in your environment. You have a greater sense of family. 2003 will expand opportunities for social development. You’re seeing a relationship between yourself and the natural environment. 2003 allows you to pass from student to teacher. SAGITTARIUS: The Sagittarius moon on New Year’s Eve features sports, animals, and sage old advice on how to run your life. Your wit will certainly be employed. While other go into debt you reap rewards. The gift of 2003 will be to take an exotic journey. CAPRICORN: You’re in a state of consciousness that is between being asleep and awake. The dream commences with New Year’s festivities. The awakening includes the celebration of self. Welcoming others while growing in spiritual knowledge will help in 2003. AQUARIUS: With the dawning of so much uncertainty, it's good to know someone who has kept his/her sense of humor. On New Year's Eve you seize the night at a stimulating social gathering. During 2003 you will have blessed marriages and alliances. PISCES: I picture you hosting some sort of New Year’s get-together. Take a few deep breaths. Humor your way through this one. The state of men, these days, mirrors the state of the martini, which has gone all frilly and girly, and requires much micro-management -lest it come in purple, with green Jolly Ranchers bobbing around Malibu Barbie’s floating head. A lot of women suddenly have a hard time determining whether a man is preparing to ask them out or preparing to be embalmed. This is no news to you, since the guy circling your wagon appears to base his dating M.O. on “How Emulating A Paperweight Can Help You Pick Up Chicks.” Now, maybe this guy is merely a one-man chamber of commerce. Then again, maybe he’d like a date with you that doesn’t require police and fire personnel for coworker crowd-control, but maybe he’s afraid of stepping in something sticky, with sexual harassment written all over it. Probably, though, he’s just as lost as the rest of the men. How did men get so lost? Rogue feminists helped them. They whacked men upside the head with a big bronze bust of Gloria Steinem. While they were all out cold, somebody did a lot of whispering in their ears about not acting like such hairy beasts: “No, boys, sit down, have a civilized cup of tea, and stick out your pinkies...if you want us to like you.” (P.S. We do like you like this, yes -- we just won’t have anything to do with you on Saturday night...nyah, nyah, nyah!) Men shot back a big lie of their own: that they want women to pursue them. Wrong! Men are hunters. They don’t want to be gathered. Men love the chase. What they don’t love is a chase that ends with a big wooden club popping out of the wall and clobbering them -- or, worse yet, with the words “Why are you talking to me?” popping out of a woman’s mouth and clobbering them. Suddenly, men are lying around like slabs of raw liver on wax paper, waiting for somebody to take charge -- just as long as it isn’t the woman. That’s where The Slider Date comes in. It’s an after-work meeting of two colleagues -- a date that’s not a date...unless the colleagues on it let it slide into one. Wait until all potential chaperones have left the building, then ask him out for drinks. Flirt a little, and if it goes well, flirt violently, until he gets the message that you’re just about dying to be chased. You may need to repeat the process, as it can take time to undo the brain damage done by the big bronze bust. If you aren’t the patient sort, you might try washing his mind out with a couple martinis -- you know the drill: shaken, not stirred, hold the marshmallows, forget the graham crackers, and lose the macadamia nuts.

ARIES: Somehow you've made it. New Year’s
I moved here two months ago to start a new job. Ever since, an adorable 33-year-old coworker has been standing outside my office door at the end of the day, chatting with me for a halfhour or so. He often invites me to lunch and on outings with him and other coworkers, including last weekend’s party on a coworker’s farm. There, he said to tell him when I’m performing (I’m in a band) so “they” -- the office crowd – could come listen. Basically, he’s done everything but ask me out! While I truly appreciate his going out of his way to include the new girl, I’m frustrated -- I really want him to make a move! Am I reading too much into his invitations? It Takes Twelve To Tango
