Initially the commission sought to study all of the buildings facilities within the school premises in order to determine a scope for a NSW Catholic Block Grant Authority (CBGA) application. We worked collaboratively with the school staff to gain an understanding of the current needs and wants with a focus to improve the school capital infrastructure. After exploring a variety of options it was determined that the most beneficial buildings to develop were the North Block and Administrative Building, creating new areas for recreation and learning by designing a large deck and amphitheatre.

Law Firm offices generally have a rigid and repetitive layout and are traditional in terms of design. This project delivers an open space between workstations and common areas, encouraging interaction amongst all members of staff. Following this idea, the workstations were designed to be transparent and visually permeable.

The Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Valparaiso’s School of Architecture gives special importance to the theoretical approach preceding project design. The school encourages a special way to address projects, which begins with observing the architectural context then formulating a theory and consequently embarking upon a design. In the final year of the course, students are offered two options for degree completion. The conventional option is an architectural project under the supervision of a tutor. The second option, undertaken in 2004, known as the Building Workshop, puts the above mentioned methodology into practice, encompassing both theoretical and practical aspects. The Hanging House Building Workshop included an architectural thesis and a practical stage that concluded with the group constructing their own design.
