#DearBaltimore a Visual Listening Circle @ The Living Well BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – A picture is worth a lot more than one thousand words. The response to images of Freddie Gray in police custody and images of the resulting uprising in Baltimore show us that a picture can start a movement, invoke change, and push people to stand for something bigger than themselves. The power of visual communication is what inspired #TeamGenius Producers and Photography Artists Dominic Nell and Reuben Greene to become photographers, and it’s the type of work you can see on display at The Photography Listening Exhibit on June 29, 2015 from 12 to 7 pm at The Living Well on 2443 N. Charles Street in Baltimore, Maryland. This Listening Circle exhibit, which is part of The Living Well’s Community Listening and Healing Circles series, funded in part by a 2015 Maryland State Arts Council Mini Grant, aims to support the process of healing in Baltimore City by offering community residents, leaders, and others an opportunity to view photographs and videos taken before, during and after the now-‐famous uprising following the death of Freddie Gray.

The FREE exhibit will open from 12 pm to 2 pm with an introduction of Greene, a second-‐generation freelance photographer from New York who currently works as The Living Well’s House Photographer and Nell, a skilled photographer who has served as a youth mentor for 25 years. Participants will not only have the opportunity to share their thoughts and reflections on the images and videos and how they compare to those shown in national media. They will also have the chance to hear Nell and Greene speak about their experiences as visual storytellers during the uprising, and how their visual stories helped to change the narrative about what happened before, during and after. From 5 pm to 7 pm, light dinner will be served and participants can learn about and view resources and information from mental health providers and organizations that are working to make a difference.
