From the Director ADSSC is in every home and business in Abu Dhabi. Not just because we’re behind the water and power in every building, but because we care. We work hard so our community can flourish. As an admired business leader and active community participant, we’re aware that what we do affects more than just our organization. The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority creates jobs for the community. We ensure that businesses are as efficient as possible while remaining environmentally and efficiently responsible. For more than 10 years, we’ve invested in infrastructure, practices, processes and people-based on a fundamental premise: quality of life is dependent on having access to clean water and electricity. We deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective service while guaranteeing that capacity meets demand. Responsibility means setting health, safety and environmental policies and following them. It means establishing environmental and education initiatives to benefit our community. Most importantly, it means being a performance-based organization, striving for success.

Latest News The Achievement of the Third Tunnel Breakthrough in STEP ADSSC announce the success of the third tunnel breakthrough and the completion of digging the strategic tunnel between work shaft number 6 and work shaft number 7 near Al Mafraq in Mohammed Bin Zayed City on 28 May 2012. The Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme “STEP” is one of the longest gravitydriven sewerage tunnels in the world. The total length of the sewer tunnel is 41-kilometers. When completed, STEP will be recognized as an efficient, cost-effective and sustainable solution to meet the long-term wastewater collection and conveyance needs of Abu Dhabi Island and mainland. The system will provide for an average wastewater flow of 800,000 cubic metres/day, and will have an ultimate capacity of 1.7 million cubic metres per day by 2030.

The Achievement of the Third Tunnel Breakthrough in STEP ADSSC was established in June 2005 to collect and treat waste-water discharged from all residential and commercial customers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and safely dispose both the solid and liquid waste thereof. ADSSC reports directly to the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, under the Chairmanship of H.E Abdulla Ali Musleh Al Ahbabi. Board of Directors membership is extended to Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Ain Municipality, Environmental Agency Abu Dhabi, Urban Planning Council, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and the Health Authority Abu Dhabi. ADSSC’s Mandate includes the following 3 activities and excludes storm (rain) water drainage system which is under the Municipality’s responsibility:

Waste water collection

Waste water treatment

Waste water disposal

ADSSC’s corporate objectives are to: Deliver reliable, secure, safe and cost effective provision of sewerage services as well as a sewerage network that complies with environmental regulations and standards. ADSSC’s Whole of Government Outcomes include:

The reliable, secure, safe and cost effective provision of sewerage services

Providing a sewerage network that complies with environmental regulations and standards

ADSSC’s wastewater treatment plants are strategically located in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. The current sewerage infrastructure was designed to accommodate earlier flow projections and is thus severely overloaded. Rehabilitation, refurbishment, renewal and construction of requisite infrastructure is underway, in order to meet the current and future requirements.
