The Delta Shelter is a temporary off-grid accommodation for scientists and researchers in the nature reserve on the wadden island of Terschelling. The quiet vastness of the landscape, the wind in the dunes and the simplicity of nature led me to design a shelter that is pure and simple, where the inhabitants can stay to experience nature in its purity. The focus of the design is on the construction of the building. On the one hand, the expressive and sleek appearance of the building is to create a sculptural and refined element in the landscape. Furthermore, I was inspired by the artist Theo Jansen, who creates living sculptures that move by the force of the wind. Therefore, the construction of the design is meant to appear like a living creature in order to make the naturally static character of the wooden structure more organic. One side of the shelter is placed on the dike to allow the inhabitants to access dry land in the case of a storm flood.

The main focus of my graduation project are the different smallscale building typologies located along the train tracks at Rotterdam Central. Designed as several independent apartment buildings, each building typology is dedicated to a specific user group to keep housing communities small and to increase the likelihood of common habits and interests among residents. The stairs, located on the outside of each building, plays an essential role in strengthening the housing community. They are designed as a social zone where the stairways are connected to the apartments terraces to promote interactions between neighbours. Furthermore, the concept aims to mix home ownership and housing cooperatives to include a broad mix of different users and income levels to create a healthy and balanced neighborhood with diverse interests and lifestyles, and to promote a framework for equality and acceptance among each other.

urban planning & public building
The exisiting square is characterized by wide, undefined urban spaces and is surrounded by heavily trafficked streets. The aim of the design is to define a clear square for public demands and to shelter it from the busy streets around. The historic Nazareth church serves as the main reference point for the orientation of the three new buildings volumes and, together with the church, can be seen as an ensamble. The focus of my design is a market hall that offers space for weekly markets as well as for catering and trade. It serves as the new center of the district. Next to that, a commercial and office building is oriented along the main road and refers its facade to the Town Hall accross the street. An open pavilion offers space for outdoormarkets and events.

The historic townhouse located close to Museumplein was to be renovated and turned into a modern office in the basement and the groundfloor, and luxurious apartments on the upper floors. The entire concept and design phase, and the early stages of the technical phase of the project was handed to me. The concept of the expressive interior color palette was inspired by the dutch painter Honthorst, after whom the project street Honthorststraat was named. For each unit a custom-fit furniture piece was designed to re-define spaces and to highlight the differences between the contemporary interior design inside a monumental, classical townhouse.
