Images 1. BECKER, Jonathan. Saturday Night Live Cast in Kitchen at Elaine's. Vintage silver gelatin print, 1976, 10 X 10 inches, SIGNED and dated 1976 on print recto. Wonderful image of some of the original cast of Saturday Night Live (Chevy Chase, Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi, and Loren Michaels) in the kitchen at Elaine's restaurant. Fine condition. 2. BRANDT, Bill. At Charlie Brown's. Gelatin silver print, 11.25 X 13.25 inches, mounted, 1945, printed later, probably mid-70s, SIGNED by Brandt on the mount. Framed. Fine condition. $6000.00

4. EVANS, Walker. Walker Evans Artist-In-Residence: Exhibition October 27 to November 26, 1972: The Hopkins Center Dartmouth College. [Hanover: Dartmouth College, 1972]. Original poster for an exhibition of Walker Evans' photographs while he was artist-in-residence at Dartmouth College. 19.5 X 27.25 inches. This copy INSCRIBED by Evans in red pen: "Candy Ingalls / affection & gratitude / well -- more -- / Walker Evans 1972". Small crease at the bottom right edge, else just about fine. $1500.00

SIGNED by Ansel Adams. 116 full-page black and white plates of Yosemite. Fine in a fine jacket with a tiny crease at the extreme top edge (basically as new); housed in the publisher's original mailing box (lightly worn). $750.00

6. ARBUS, Diane. Diane Arbus. Millerton, NY: Aperture (1972). First Edition. Quarto. First issue with "Two Girls in Identical Raincoats". Designed and edited by Doon Arbus and Marvin Israel, and championed by John Szarkowski, who organized the retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art for which this book was commissioned. Probably the most important monograph published in the history of Aperture, and one of the true photo highspots of the last forty years. (Parr / Badger, v1, 258259; Roth 214-215; Open Book 284-285; Auer 546). From the library of Canadian Abstract Expressionist painter Ray Mead, with his ownership signature hidden by the front flap, light bump to bottom front corner, trace foxing top edge, small crease to the bottom of the front end paper, still near fine in a near fine jacket with tiny edge tear, and a small crease to the front flap. $2500.00 7. AVEDON, Richard. Avedon: Photographs 1947-1977. New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1978. First Edition. Quarto. An excellent association copy, likely INSCRIBED by Avedon to writer Harold Brodkey, who contributed the introduction for this volume: "For true friend Harold / in the hope that / I will be able, / for the rest of / my life, to stand by / you as you have stood / by me. / Dick". On the next page Avendon continues: "For Harold / with / love / Dick." Fine in photo-illustrated laminated boards, near fine publisher's original photo-illustrated acetate jacket, lightly rubbed. $2000.00


8. BALTZ, Lewis. The New Industrial Parks Near Irvine, California. New York: Leo Castelli / Castelli Graphics (1974). First Edition. Square quarto. 960 copies printed. Fifty-one uniform black and white images of suburban industrial buildings, shot in a minimalist style, with the third picture, "Industrial Structure During Painting," looking eerily like a Mondrian. A book celebrated for its intentional boring beauty, and one of the highlights of the New Topographics movement in American photography. (Roth 228-229, Open Book 298-299; Auer 576). Fine in a fine jacket, a little toned at the edges as usual. Crisp copy. $3000.00 9. FRANK, Robert. The Lines of My Hand. Tokyo: Yugensha (1972). First Edition. Folio. Pamphlet in Japanese laid in. Limited to 1000 copies. Beautifully designed and printed; the first of five books designed by Kohei Sugiura and published by Kazuhiko Motomura under the Yugensha imprint. The lushest of Frank's books, his most important retrospective, and one of the most sought after deluxe editions in the photobook canon. (Parr / Badger, v1, 261; Open Book 286-287; Auer 544). A little faded along the bottom of the spine, else just about fine in stamped black cloth boards and matching slipcase with the photo illustration (New York City, 1948) mounted on; the slipcase is faded along the spine, top edge, and the top portion of the front panel, not affecting the photograph. $2250.00 10. FRIEDLANDER, Lee. Flowers and Trees. New City: Haywire Press (1981). First Edition. Spiral-bound large quarto in boards. SIGNED by Friedlander and designated #9 in pencil the on the colophon page, but not part of the limited edition of 100 signed and numbered copies issued with a print; these books are bound in maroon boards and come with a purple slipcase. Printed by The Stinehour Press and The Meriden Gravure Company from halftone negatives made by Richard Benson. 40 black and white reproductions, continuing the formalist approach Friedlander employed in The American Monument. Fine copy in purple boards. $1500.00

11. FRIEDLANDER, Lee. Self Portrait. New City, NY: Haywire Press (1970). First Edition. Small square quarto; SIGNED by the photographer. Friedlander's first solo book, a collection of impromptu self-portraits that inform his usual topography of urban landscape. This juxtaposition of personal and social commentary, popularized by Friedlander and Garry Winogrand in the sixties and seventies, sets the stage for the post-Frank era in American photography. (Parr / Badger, v1, 258; Roth 198; Open Book 262; Auer 514). Two stamps of a California gallery, else a solid, very good plus copy, with a bit rubbing visible on the back wrapper and along the spine. $750.00


12. GARANGER, Marc. Femmes Algeriennes 1960. Paris: Contrejour (1982). First Edition. Quarto. 53 full-page portraits of Algerian women shot between 1958-1960. Fascinating book, reprinted by Contrejour in 1989, and reissued by a different publisher in 2002. Spine ends and bottom corners a little bumped, otherwise a fine, fresh copy in a fine jacket, with tiny creases at the bumps. $600.00

13. GISSINGER, Hans and Gérard Oberlé. Salami. N.p.: Woodstock Editions, 2001. Limited Edition. Folio. Number 364 of 500 press-stamped copies SIGNED by Hans Gissinger. Illustrated with 60 portraits of Gissinger's seductive Italian salamis. Essays on salami in French by Gérard Oberlé and translated to English by Richard Pevear. New in salami-patterned boards. $400.00

14. GOSSAGE, John. 13 Ways to Miss a Train. For Franco Vaccari / 13 Modi Per Perdere il Treno. Per Franco Vaccari. Bologna / Milano: Linea di Confine Editore, 2004. First Edition. Quarto. SIGNED by Gossage. Interview with Gossage in Italian and English. Photographic story, shot in Gossage's minimalist, almost typological style. There are few photographers with Gossage's skill for complete dissection. Excellent book, now out-of-print. Fine in photo-illustrated wrappers. $200.00


15. (HARING, Keith). Keith Haring. New York: Tony Shafrazi Gallery, 1982. First Edition. Square spiral-bound quarto. 2000 copies printed. Includes a foreword by Tony Shafrazi, as well as text by Keith Haring, Jeffrey Deitch, Robert Pincus-Witten, and David Shapiro. Covers a little soiled, top edge dusty; close to near fine in the distinctive illustrated spiral bound wrappers. Increasingly uncommon in the first edition. $600.00

16. INOUE, Seiryu. Kamagasaki. Tokyo: Shobo, 1985. First Edition. Quarto. Number 97 of 500 numbered copies. Although not called for, this copy has been INSCRIBED by Inoue. Riveting black and white images of the Kamagasaki neighborhood of Osaka, widely regarded as Japan's worst slum. Photographs of drunks and drug addicts, elderly laborers and poor children, prostitutes, homeless, etc., rendered in an objective yet compassionate style that seeks not to exploit, but rather to document. Inoue had a major show in 2008 at Rat Hole Gallery in Tokyo, and parts of this book were reproduced for co-publication with Ichiro Kojima's Tsugaru. Middle signature of the book somewhat awkwardly bound, but not loose in anyway; otherwise a fine copy in plain red and black laminated boards and matching slipcase card slipcase (moderately worn at the spine heel). No copies in OCLC, and the first copy I have seen. $2000.00

17. LEWITT, Sol. Autobiography. New York / Boston: Multiples Inc. / Michael K. Torf, 1980. First Edition. Square quarto. Lewitt's best known book, a catalogue of his personal items, including several shots of his library, with one mouth watering page showing multiple copies of his own limited editions! (Parr / Badger, v2, 155; Open Book 322-323; Auer 624). Fine in printed wrappers in a fine jacket. Very nice copy. $1750.00


18. MARK, Mary Ellen. Falkland Road. London: Thames and Hudson (1981). First Edition. Quarto. First U.K. Edition (unclear whether the British or American precedes). INSCRIBED twice by Mark and dated in the year of publication. Photographs and text by Mary Ellen Mark. Her landmark study of the prostitutes of Bombay. A harrowing book. (Open Book 324-325). Fine in a near fine jacket. $500.00

19. MODEL, Lisette. Lisette Model. Millerton: Aperture (1979). Limited Edition. Folio. Number 80 of 300 numbered copies SIGNED by Model. With an original print, Sailor and Girl, included separately from the book as issued. The print is usually missing from most copies of the deluxe edition. (Roth 242-243). Fine copy in black-stamped gray boards in the near fine matching slipcase. The print is fine, but lacks the folder (separate from the book) in which it was originally housed. $3000.00


20. MOHOLY-NAGY, L. Telehor 1-2: The International Review New Vision. Brno: Fr. Kalidova, 1936. First Edition. Spiral-bound quarto. The first and only issue of this periodical edited by Moholy-Nagy, given over entirely to him, with 69 photographs, photograms, constructions, and film clips, 9 of which are reproduced in color. Text in Czech, German, English, and French. Introduction by Siegfried Gideon, text by MoholyNagy. One of the most important and rare of Moholy-Nagy's publications, and one of the seminal texts not only of his New Vision movement, but indeed the entire history of the prewar European avantgarde. Very light wear; a fine copy in illustrated color spiral-bound wrappers, with the page of perforated subscription cards intact. A beautiful example of a fragile volume. $5000.00

22. SCHMID, Hannes. Sampa: Sagt Paul. Düsseldorf: Sampa Textil GmbH, N.d. First Edition. Folio. Company book for German fashion house Sampa Textil, photographed by Hannes Schmid. 24 pages including the covers, printed on a heavy card stock, with color and black and white images of models. Compelling publication: fashion photography meets artist's book. No copies in OCLC and no information online. Fine in laminated boards, color card slipcase. $950.00

23. TILLMANS, Wolfgang. Concorde. Köln: Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König, 1997. First Edition. Tall octavo. Artist's book published in conjunction with Tillman's 1997 exhibition at London's Chisenhale Gallery entitled 'I didn't inhale.' Full-page color spreads of the majestic and now nostalgic Concorde, as seen by Tillmans in the soulless skies above Heathrow. Text on jacket flaps in English and German. (Parr / Badger, v1, 170). Tiny crease at the spine, else fine in wrappers with integral photo-illustrated jacket. Uncommon in the first edition. $450.00

24. WEBER, Bruce. O Rio De Janiero. New York: Alfred A. Knopf (1986). First Edition. Folio. Weber's highly stylized paean to Rio: a jumbled mix of light reportage and high-end fashion photography. (Roth 254-255). Creased a little along the spine and rubbed at the spine gutters with a small loss of paper at the spine heel, else a very good copy in photoillustrated wrappers with no other objectionable defects. $400.00


25. WESTON, Edward. 50 Photographs. New York: Duell, Sloan, and Pearce (1947). First Edition. Quarto. Number 12 of 1500 numbered copies initialed by Weston. Designed by Merle Armitage. An exceptional association copy, INSCRIBED by Weston to his son Brett and dated in the year of publication: "To Brett with deep love / from his 'Papacito' / 10-9-'47" (Roth 128-129, Open Book 150-151). Spine gilt dulled, small almost unnoticeable archival restorations smoothing the top corners and strengthening the binding; a very good to near fine copy, lacking the printed dust jacket. One of the most desirable American photographic association copies ever to come to market. $45,000.00
