Quadrangle Suite (includes Quadrangle Room, Napier Room & Terrace Room)
Nestled in 42 acres of landscaped gardens & lawns overlooking the Thames, is The Hurlingham Club – a Georgian country house, in a green oasis within London
The Hurlingham Club Bordering the Thames in Fulham and set in 42 acres of magnificent grounds, The Hurlingham Club is a green oasis of tradition and international renown. The striking Georgian Clubhouse effortlessly combines timeless elegance with state of the art events facilities.
“One of the most delightful villas I have ever entered
”
on the banks of the Thames. Lord Hatherton 1836
The flexibility of the event rooms, within the recently developed East Wing, ensures each event is bespoke; from dressing the extensive space available; to selecting the menus, meticulously prepared in the ultra-modern kitchens and beautifully presented to each and every guest. The core of the present Hurlingham house dates back to 1760 as a ‘cottage’ built by Dr William Cadogan, a famous physician of his time. In 1800, the ‘cottage’ was enlarged into the neoclassic mansion we see today by the architect George Byfield, under the employment of Mr Ellis, formerly of Jamaica. Over the years, the house has played host to prime ministers, governors of the Bank of England and members of the royal family; to include Queen Victoria’s Jubilees in 1887 and 1897 and more recently the Club’s current patron His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.
2
The Hurlingham Ball (formerly the Eton and Harrow Ball) held in July, which can be traced back to 1908, sits comfortably in the calendar alongside events such as the Wimbledon Ball, the Salon Privé and the Boat Race Ball. Much of the Club’s history is to be found in the world of sports, with Hurlingham acting as the headquarters for Polo for the British Empire, until the Second World War, and The World Croquet Federation holding its first world association croquet championship tournament in 1989. Now in its 15th year the Fortis Tennis Classic, at Hurlingham, is a thrilling combination of tennis legends alongside ATP tour players.
