In a place where the grass isn’t grass, but a world-class carpet of fresh herbs and the winds of ancient trade carry the scent of salt all over it’s rocky islands, you would not expect to encounter the squeal of German rubber and the rumble of American steel. It’s the ﬁrst week in autumn, but things are still hot on this small break in the Mediterranean. Feliks Yozhikov is the man to thank or to hate for this. Feliks is the patriarch of a Russian oil dynasty with a son, Alexi, who is about as smooth with women as sandpaper is with concrete. In light of his son’s challenge, Feliks devised this exercise in excess to combat the problem. A race for Alexi’s hand in marriage and all of the black gold that is attached to it. The racers will play reaper, their cars a chariot of death, and their desires are the rules. Of these dark, lustful ﬁgures, who will have Alexi’s hand in marriage?

Ghoul Face was until recently the most violent prisoner in all of Australia. No one knows his real name-not even the prison guards. When case workers went to his hometown in the outback, even the locals couldn’t tell them his real name. Ghoul Face has held mythic status in the wilds of Australia from a young age due to his choice of weapon, what he calls his “Murder-Mate”. Gambling, pimping, extortion, smuggling, and underground ﬁghting rings; the list goes on. Ghoul has been in maximum-security conﬁnement for the last three years. Two months ago, the prison warden received a letter containing two checks and plane tickets to the race. One week later, Ghoul was released and his only possessions were returned to him: out-of-fashion dress pants, loafers, and his hammer. The check was for his ride. The other check for the warden. Ghoul seems uninterested in oil or money and pines for his youthful days with Murder-Mate.
