I realized that I had been in the middle of world’s largest error. In the summer I made a hike through Scotland. From Milngavie (a village just outside glasgow) to william ford (a city in the north). Throughout the trip I noticed a continuous change in the landscape and animals. Our departure was at first sight a nice city park. Only a few miles further it evolved into what looked like an intergalactic landscape. Every day was like landing on another planet.

Plankton inhabit oceans, seas and lakes, and have existed in various forms for at least 2 billion years. Earth is estimated to have formed 4.54 billion years ago from the solar nebula, along with the Sun and other planets. The moon formed roughly 20 million years later. Initially molten, the outer layer of the planet cooled, resulting in the solid crust. Outgassing and volcanic activity produced the primordial atmosphere. Condensing water vapor, most or all of which came from ice delivered by comets, produced the oceans and other water sources. The highly energetic chemistry is believed to have produced a self-replicating molecule around 4 billion years ago. Continents formed, then broke up and reformed as the surface of Earth reshaped over hundreds of millions of years, occasionally combining to make a supercontinent. Roughly 750 million years ago, the earliest known supercontinent Rodinia, began to break apart. The continents later recombined to form Pannotia which

broke apart about 540 million years ago, then finally Pangaea, which broke apart about 180 million years ago. There is significant evidence that a severe glacial action during the Neoproterozoic era covered much of the planet in a sheet of ice. This hypothesis has been termed the “Snowball Earth”, and it is of particular interest as it precedes the Cambrian explosion in which multicellular life forms began to proliferate about 530–540 million years ago. Since the Cambrian explosion there have been five distinctly identifiable mass extinctions. The last mass extinction occurred some 65 million years ago, when a meteorite collision probably triggered the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs and other large reptiles, but spared small animals such as mammals, which then resembled shrews. Over the past 65 million years, mammalian life diversified. Several million years ago, a species of small African ape gained the ability to stand upright. The subsequent advent of human life, and the development of agriculture and further civilization allowed humans to affect

the Earth more rapidly than any previous life form, affecting both the nature and quantity of other organisms as well as global climate. By comparison, the Great Oxygenation Event, produced by the proliferation of algae during the Siderian period, required about 300 million years to culminate. The present era is classified as part of a mass extinction event, the Holocene extinction event, the fastest ever to have occurred. Some, such as E. O. Wilson of Harvard University, predict that human destruction of the biosphere could cause the extinction of one-half of all species in the next 100 years. The extent of the current extinction event is still being researched, debated and calculated by-

REAT biologists.

Geological evolution

T H

The geology of an area evolves through time as rock units are deposited and inserted and deformational processes change their shapes and locations. Rock units are first emplaced either by deposition onto the surface or intrude into the overlying rock. Deposition can occur when sediments settle onto the surface of the Earth and later lithify into sedimentary rock, or when as volcanic material such as volcanic ash or lava flows, blanket the surface. Igneous intrusions such as batholiths, laccoliths, dikes, and sills, push upwards into the overlying rock, and crystallize as they intrude. After the initial sequence of rocks has been deposited, the rock units can be deformed and/or metamorphosed. Deformation typically occurs as a result of horizontal shortening, horizontal extension, or sideto-side (strike-slip) motion. These structural regimes broadly relate to convergent boundaries, divergent boundaries, and transform boundaries, respectively, between tectonic plates.

Evolution (ErrorVolution?) Life is only known to exist on the planet Earth.(cf Astrobiology) The origin of life is still a poorly understood process, but it is thought to have occurred about 3.9 to 3.5 billion years ago during the hadean or archean eons on a primordial earth that had a substantially different environment than is found at present. These life forms possessed the basic traits of self-replication and inheritable traits. Once life had appeared, the process of evolution by natural selection resulted in the development of ever-more diverse life forms. Species that were unable to adapt to the changing environment and competition from other life forms became extinct. However, the fossil record retains evidence of many of these older species. Current fossil and DNA evidence shows that all existing species can trace a continual ancestry back to the first primitive life forms. The advent of photosynthesis in very basic forms of plant life worldwide allowed the sun’s energy to be harvested to create conditions allowing for more complex life.[citation needed] The resultant oxygen accumulated in the atmosphere and gave rise to the ozone layer. The incorporation of smaller cells within larger ones resulted in the development of yet more complex cells called eukaryotes. Cells within colonies became increasingly specialized, resulting in true multicellular organisms. With the ozone layer absorbing harmful ultraviolet radiation, life colonized the surface of Earth.

Physical

The broadest sense

T world. H

of nature reveals another

Nature, in the broadest sense, is equivalent to the natural world, physical world, or material world. “Nature” refers to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general. It ranges in scale from the subatomic to the cosmic. The word nature is derived from the Latin word natura, or “essential qualities, innate disposition”, and in ancient times, literally meant “birth”. Natura was a Latin translation of the Greek word physis , which originally related to the intrinsic characteristics that plants, animals, and other features of the world develop of their own accord. The concept of nature as a whole, the physical universe, is one of several expansions of the original notion; it began with certain core applications of the word by pre-Socratic philosophers, and has steadily gained currency ever since. This usage was confirmed during the advent of modern scientific method in the last several centuries. Within the various uses of the word today, “nature” often refers to geology and wildlife. Nature may refer to the general realm of various types of living plants and animals, and in some cases to the processes associated with inanimate objects – the way that particular types of things exist and change of their own accord, such as the weather and geology of the Earth, and the matter and energy of which all these things are composed. It is often taken to mean the “natural environment” or wilderness–wild animals, rocks, forest, beaches, and in general those things that have not been substantially altered by human intervention, or which persist despite human intervention. For example, manufactured objects and human interaction generally are not considered part of nature, unless qualified as, for example, “human nature” or “the whole of nature”. This more traditional concept of natural things which can still be found today implies a distinction between the natural and the artificial, with the artificial being understood as that which has been brought into being by a human consciousness or a human mind. Depending on the particular context, the term “natural” might also be distinguished from the unnatural, the supernatural, or synthetic.

We’ve changed

Much remodeling has gone on since the dawn of agriculture about 10 millenniums ago. "People who lived 10,000 years ago were much more like Neanderthals than we are like those people," says John Hawks, a professor of anthropology at the University of Wisconsin. "We've changed."

(errorvolution)

Hawks is among a growing number of scientists who are using wholegenome sequencing and other modern technologies to zero in on just how we've changed. Their research is helping illuminate not only how humans became what we are but also where we might be headed. For instance, some scientists speculate that changes in human mating patterns may be contributing to the increase in autism. Others track how humans have morphed in response to changing circumstances, including enhanced abilities to metabolize sugar and fight disease. Some people are genetically more resistant to the HIV virus, for instance, and that trait should become more common in the future, as those people are more likely to survive and have children who are resistant. Yet for some people, the makeover isn't big enough or fast enough. Some parents have started using DNA testing to choose the genetic makeup of their children, rejecting embryos with inherited flaws or embracing those with desired traits—such as being the right sex.

E EVOLUTIO O F HUMAN NATUR

-New mutations. Until recently, anthropologists thought that human evolution had slowed down. But last December, Hawks reported that it has actually accelerated 100-fold in the past 5,000 to 10,000 years. He figured that out by comparing chunks of DNA among 269 people from around the world. Over time, DNA accumulates random mutations, just as the front of a white T-shirt tends to accumulate spots. The bigger the chunks of DNA without random spots, the more recently it had been minted. Using this system, Hawks concluded that recent genetic changes account for about 7 percent of the human genome. Much of the increase, he says, has been fueled by the growth of the world's population, which has expanded by a factor of 1,000 over the past 10,000 years. Having more people increases the odds of mutations.

evolution

44

ON

At the same time, the human genome has been scrambling to adapt to a rapidly changing world—11,000 years ago, nobody farmed, nobody milked domesticated animals, and nobody lived in a city. People with a mutation that aided survival were more likely to thrive, reproduce, and pass that mutation along to offspring. For example, the capacity to digest lactose, the sugar in milk, has become common only over the past 3,000 years. Now, about 95 percent of the people in northern Germany have the mutation, which also popped up independently among the Masai in Africa and the Lapps in Finland. Hawks says: "This is really rapid evolution."

Beste Muhka,

In need of a location.

After a shitload of mails...

Virtual

Vervorming van de realiteit is virtueel.

McKenna says: “In trying to imagine the futures onto which these doors open, let us not forget that culture and language were the first virtual realities. A child is born into a world of unspeakable wonder. each part of the world is seen to glow with animate mystery and the beckoning light of the unknown. But quickly our parents and siblings provide us with words. At first these are nouns; that shimmering pattern of iridescence and sound is a “bird”, that cool, silky, undulating surface is “water”. As young children, we respond to our cultural programming and quickly replace mysterious things and feelings with culturally validated and familiar words….

We evolved from the real world into a virtual world which we see as the real world.

As we learn our lines and the blocking that goes with them, we move out of the inchoate realm of the preverbal child and into the realm of the first virtual reality, the VR of culture. many of us never realise that this domain is virtual, and instead we imagine we are discovering the true nature of the real world.” …

Virtual

ANOTHER VIRTUAL WORLD /SYNTHETIC WORLD

A virtual world is an online community that takes the form of a computer-based simulated environment through which users can interact with one another and use and create objects. The term has become largely synonymous with interactive 3D virtual environments, where the users take the form of avatars visible to others. These avatars usually appear as textual, two-dimensional, or three-dimensional representations, although other forms are possible (auditory and touch sensations for example). In general, virtual worlds allow for multiple users. The computer accesses a computersimulated world and presents perceptual stimuli to the user, who in turn can manipulate elements of the modeled world and thus experience a degree of telepresence. Such modeled worlds and their rules may draw from the reality or fantasy worlds. Example rules are gravity, topography, locomotion, real-time actions, and communication. Communication between users can range from text, graphical icons, visual gesture, sound, and rarely, forms using touch, voice command, and balance senses.

Massively multiplayer online games depict a wide range of worlds, including those based on fantasy, science fiction, the real world, super heroes, sports, horror, and historical milieus. The most common form of such games are fantasy worlds, whereas those based on the real world are relatively rare. Many MMORPGs have real-time actions and communication. Players create a character who travels between buildings, towns, and worlds to carry out business or leisure activities. Communication is usually textual, but real-time voice communication is also possible. The form of communication used can substantially affect the experience of players in the game. Virtual worlds are not limited to games but, depending on the degree of immediacy presented, can encompass computer conferencing and text based chatrooms. Sometimes, emoticons or ‘smilies’ are available, to show feeling or facial expression. Emoticons often have a keyboard shortcut. Edward Castronova is an economist who has argued that “synthetic worlds” is a better term for these cyberspaces, but this term has not been widely adopted.

As we evolve the number of people who gets psychosis increases...

psychosis Signs and symptoms People with psychosis may have one or more of the following: hallucinations, delusions, catatonia, or a thought disorder, as described below Hallucinations A hallucination is defined as sensory perception in the absence of external stimuli. Hallucinations are different from illusions, or perceptual distortions, which are the misperception of external stimuli. Hallucinations may occur in any of the five senses and take on almost any form, which may include simple sensations (such as lights, colors, tastes, and smells) to experiences such as seeing and interacting with fully formed animals and people, hearing voices, and having complex tactile sensations. Auditory hallucinations, particularly experiences of hearing voices, are a common and often prominent feature of psychosis. Hallucinated voices may talk about, or to, the person, and may involve several speakers with distinct personas. Auditory hallucinations tend to be particularly distressing when they are derogatory, commanding or preoccupying. However, the experience of hearing voices need not always be a negative one. One research study has shown that the majority of people who hear voices are not in need of psychiatric help. The Hearing Voices Movement has subsequently been created to support voice hearers, regardless of whether they are considered to have a mental illness or not. Delusions

Virtual Psychosis (from the Greek ψυχή "psyche", for mind/soul, and -ωσις "-osis", for abnormal condition) means abnormal condition of the mind, and is a generic psychiatric term for a mental state often described as involving a "loss of contact with reality". People suffering from psychosis are described as psychotic. Psychosis is given to the more severe forms of psychiatric disorder, during which hallucinations and delusions and impaired insight may occur. Some professionals say that the term psychosis is not sufficient as some illnesses grouped under the term "psychosis" have nothing in common (Gelder, Mayou & Geddes 2005). The terms psychosis and psychotic are very broad and can mean anything from relatively normal aberrant experiences through to the florid and catatonic expressions of schizophrenia and bipolar type 1 disorder Despite this, psychosis is a term generally given to noticeable deficits in normal behavior (known as deficit or negative signs) or more commonly to the florid experiences of hallucinations or delusional beliefs. People experiencing psychosis may exhibit personality changes and thought disorder. Depending on its severity, this may be accompanied by unusual or bizarre behavior, as well as difficulty with social interaction and impairment in carrying out daily life activities. It is also important to note that psychosis usually refers to negative expressions, that is paranoia, stereotypy etc. rather than ecstatic experience such as religious ecstasy, though with such a broad term, there are no hard and fast rules. A wide variety of central nervous system diseases, from both external poisons and internal physiologic illness, can produce symptoms of psychosis

Virtual

“Real” virtual communities Virtual communities have been characterized as people with shared interests or goals for whom electronic communication is a primary form of interaction (Dennis, Pootheri, & Natarajan, 1998), as groups of people who meet regularly to discuss a subject of interest to all members (Figallo, 1998), and groups of people brought together by shared interests or a geographic bond (Kilsheimer, 1997). Traditionally, the word "community" is likened to a geographic area such as a neighborhood (Wellman & Gulia, 1999b), albeit in this case the "virtual" part of the term "virtual community" indicates without a physical place as a home (Handy, 1995). The term "virtual" itself means that the primary interaction is electronic or enabled by technology. This type of computer-mediated communication (CMC) allows people to locate and talk to others with similar interests, thereby forming and sustaining virtual communities (Hiltz & Wellman, 1997) and creating "social aggregations that emerge from the Net when enough people carry on those public discussions long enough, with sufficient human feeling, to form webs of personal relationships in cyberspace"(Rheingold, 1993b, p. 5). Although the connection to others through the Internet is key to a virtual community, the notion of a community is not applicable to all sites of on-line discourse (Erickson, 1997; Fernback, 1999). Some discussion groups and chat rooms, for example, are just places for people to meet without any sense of permanence or consistency among the members. For example, chat rooms exist that cater to single people looking to meet other single people, each room having a different mix of people each

76

day, none returning on a regular basis. Such chat rooms, because they lack a regular basis of participation by their patrons, do not qualify as a virtual community (Q. Jones, 1997). Accordingly, another facet of the definition of a virtual community is the frequency with which its members participate in it. Typically, members become attached to their communities and visit them often (Hiltz & Wellman, 1997), sometimes becoming so dependent upon the community that they can be described as addicted (Hiltz, 1984). Although the literature does not specify what particular visit frequency makes a member an active one, a virtual community is generally understood to consist of persistently interacting members (A. D. Smith, 1999). Likewise, Figallo (1998) suggests that virtual communities are those where members feel part of a larger social group, sense an interwoven web of relationships with other members, have ongoing exchanges with other members of commonly valued things (such as information about a common hobby), and have lasting relationships with others. Ridings et al. (2002, p. 273) offer a comprehensive definition of the term virtual community that embraces the attributes discussed above: groups of people with common interests and practices that communicate regularly and for some duration in an organized way over the Internet through a common location or mechanism.2 It is this definition that is used in this research.

reality

Virtual

Examples of virtual communities are bulletin boards where the same people come, on a regular basis, to discuss common interests such as fighting breast cancer, collecting antique vases, or the issues of owning a Sabre sailboat. Since community membership has not been explicitly defined in the literature and since the typical usage of the term membership deals also with members who do not actively contribute to the community but still take part, even silently, in its activities, this research defines a member as anyone who participates in a community by either posting or reading messages regardless of frequency.

Technocalyps I am an agnostic, but I enjoyed this post. I heard about a study in the States where they quizzed atheists, agnostics and devout religious people on religion and the religious people scored the absolute lowest. Atheists actually scored the highest and new more about all religions than the religious -500 years ago when “Humans” entered the new world, it was not a good outcome for the “Natives” According to this brilliant documentary natives are not human. I've heard about this a few times and every time i hear it i giggle - i love the idea that theists have no idea what they're actually worshiping :3 they say, the bible is the main reason we have atheists! you want to stop believing in god, Scam huh, well it seams this scam has humbly bettered human exsistance. Science was supposed to help but instead we have thousands of nuclear weapons ready to go, with the launch... There is nothing wrong with being bionic lots of people already are it doesnt make you any less human

78

Are we prepared for dealing with the prospect that humanity is not the end of evolution? Technocalyps is an intriguing three-part documentary on the notion of trans-humanism by Belgian visual artist and filmmaker Frank Theys. The latest findings in genetics, robotics, artificial intelligence, bionics and nanotechnology appear in the media every day, but with no analysis of their common aim: that of exceeding human limitations. The director conducts his inquiry into the scientific, ethical and metaphysical dimensions of technological development. The film includes interviews by top experts and thinkers on the subject worldwide.

Well then enjoy your dying.. but it's foolish and nearsighted to ignore the natural evolution of the computational machines. One thing i know for sure : nature always turns out to be far more weird strange, beautiful, interesting, sweet, violent, awesome than any possible human prediction.

This documentary greatly disturbs me for some reason...

R u even reading what im writing, I said plenty of times that man made religion is the best and only way of defeating the ravenous and murderous tendencies of man

Just because I painted a bleek picture of the human race , it doesnt mean religion doesnt work, it has and it will continue to. But we dont like rules, so we dont have discipline. We are juggling our destructive human nature and the religions that teach against them. We will almost always choose the easy way (science). So what im saying is that Man is the weakest link, not religion. You better give respect to what you dont understand. Even your grandparents and great grandparents were religious, so you are undermining the judgments that made u. If you dont believe, its cool, actually id rather you not, but its idiotic to discount the power and benefit religion has givin us humans.

Like how the bible says to stone gay ppl to death. Surely in this is not something "god" (if he exists) wants, rather I see it as a pervert translation my mere humans.

Why dont we make robots better than man, and i dont mean add numbers faster, I mean act better. We are trying to make robots in our image, that means another type of being who will create war, persecute differences, kill and maim for a form of currency, abuse resources and create a robot form of American Idol. That sound horrible. We love saying that robots one day will take over, but really think about it. Who's to say they wont, how will we create machines without human error, when they are designed by humans. We have f****d up almost everything we've touched, its feasible to think that we will continue to do so.

I don't see what the surprise or the shock is since most of these ideas are shared by other academics through scholarly articles and also presented in other documentaries, ie ideas of trans-humanism and the singularity. Furthermore, the people interviewed in these documentaries have academic backgrounds, ie researchers, engineers, and scientist, relevant to the documentary with a few exceptions like Audry De Gray who has only a BS in computer science, and the probably the guy suggesting drugs use.

My point: if the producers of this documentary decided to make up a cool-sounding word to suggest a technology-derived disaster (like an Apocalypse), they should probably take the time to research it.

The Greek word for revelation is ‘apocalypse’ and is derived from the prefix ‘apo’ and the verb ‘kalypto’ (meaning ‘to cover’). Technocalypse is broken down to ‘techne’ (art or skill, contemporary use more often means technology) and ‘kalypto’, so basically it means covering with or in technology (without any undertones of ‘revelation’, since they are different words).

you all wrong. this films aren't good at all, there missing a lot unanswered questions, questions that where never asked; if so called future, maid by as/them self, Gods will spike with there intelligence, learn everything what is to learn about our world, use every available resources to improve them self, do you thing they will stick around and do nothing? or they maybe go explore rest of the universe find next interesting planet, learn everything, use every resources and go to explore again! Don't forget, every race in every planet in every universe will fight for survival. Now thing, do really we want to create such monstrosity!? End of human race is obvious, we are simply born as competitive race ( read below posts and you see ) every one want to be right even at the cost of majority. People race will extinct in one or another way. So intelligent and so stupid at this same time plus people are blind, because this way is simpler to "life". I don't see any way to save as, sad but true.

Virtual It is said that opinions are like assholes: everybody has one. The litmus test for this theorem is the phenomenon known as the internet message board.

The end of my little son his penis expands like a litte balloon while he is peeing, is this normal?

People talk in pictures over the internet.

Meh. Actually, ur gay. (one of the most popular words on the internet, if u believe the web we don’t have any straight guys anymore.)

The phenomenon of internet commenting has lead to the evolution of certain types of people. First, there's the Troll. This is a person who posts rude, offensive, and controversial on a message board or comments section, usually off-topic and almost definitely with the intention of getting a response. The Troll often chooses words bound to infuriate the average viewer, whether it be racist dogma, an extreme political viewpoint, a personal attack on someone famous, a personal attack on another commenter, or an opinion held by absolutely nobody (i.e. "C'mon, say what you want about the guy, but Hitler sure had style!"). Since the Troll's main objective is getting attention, responding to his drivel will only egg him on further, leading many to post "Do not feed the trolls". This, technically, is ALSO a response to said Troll, once again proving that most people abandon common sense when typing in small fonts.

Before the internet, to make one's opinion heard by a large section of the population a person would have to either: Write a book, Get a job on the radio, Take out a TV ad, or, Blow somebody famous, then let the media handle 1-3 for you.

facts 82

Anyone can post exactly what they are thinking on the internet. Thanks to services such as Twitter, Facebook, BeBo, and so on, you don't even need a jumping off point such as an article or picture for your rant. Accompanying almost every picture, article, video, etc. on the internet is an empty text box. Human beings, discontent with anything left unfilled, are drawn to place something inside this gaping hole to fulfill their primal urges and achieve satisfaction. There is an undeniable need to put something in that box. In other words, people get off placing an internet comment. Second, you have the Sock Puppet. A Sock Puppet is a second account created by a single user, under a different name, utilized simply to add credibility to one's opinion by agreeing with oneself. This is a perfect example of digital masturbation. Actually, most of the internet is digital masturbation. As is the case with other labels, this one is thrown around often without proof. Once an opponent in a message board suddenly garners the support of another faceless individual, the average poster cries "Foul", claiming the passenger on the angry rant bandwagon is a Sock Puppet. If every person accused of being a Sock Puppet actually were one, that would mean that the entire internet contains only seven people. Third, their are the Spammers. People have found their e-mails stuffed with advertisements since the creation of the internet: These ads are often for illicit goods and services, from penis enlargement pills to pornographic websites, penis enlargement lotions, insurance scams, to penis enlargement. Did we mention the penis enlargement? Eventually, this kind of guerrilla marketing (read: douchebaggery) made its way into the message board. The modern spammer makes an account on a popular website, then comments on whatever content is available, pretending to be a fan of the subject, then deftly sliding in the URL of the website he's hawking, usually dating websites. Because the best place to meet women is on the faceless internet. 83

DANIEL CREVIER, AI: The Tumultuous History of the Search for Artificial Intelligence The human brain has about 100 billion neurons. With an estimated average of one thousand connections between each neuron and its neighbors, we have about 100 trillion connections, each capable of a simultaneous calculation ... (but) only 200 calculations per second.... With 100 trillion connections, each computing at 200 calculations per second, we get 20 million billion calculations per second. This is a conservatively high estimate.... In 1997, $2,000 of neural computer chips using only modest parallel processing could perform around 2 billion calculations per second.... This capacity will double every twelve months. Thus by the year 2020, it will have doubled about twenty-three times, resulting in a speed of about 20 million billion neural connection calculations per second, which is equal to the human brain.

Cheers!

Groeten, Rob
