WELCOME TO...
Showtime 2016
For all the best retailers, there's a frisson of excitement just thinking about going to a trade show. After all, there's the thrill and anticipation about what you might find, be it new suppliers, new product or the next big thing. Who knows what's around the corner if you put your best foot forward and set out with a positive mind-set. At the bigger shows such as Spring Fair - celebrating its 40th year at the NEC in 2016 - and Autumn Fair in the UK, NY NOW in New York, Ambiente in Frankfurt, or Maison & Objet in Paris, there's the opportunity to spot the trends, or to visit a hall you've never been in to, or to take a peek at an upcoming sector of the market place. After all, nothing stays the same. As show organisers would confirm, it's all about evolving as exhibitors and retailers evolve, with the visitor experience paramount, ensuring that buyers get the most in relation to the time they have invested away from their businesses. Trade shows are also a brilliant place to combine business with pleasure, a chance to get together with likeminded people in the same industry, a chance to talk. They are about learning more through state-of-the-art seminars given by expert individuals, and they can also reveal the unexpected such as bumping into an old acquaintance who might set off a fresh train of thought. Trade shows, even though some may be changing shape, are as relevant today as they ever were. There are many routes to market when it comes to finding new product, but few things beat actually being there, having the experience and being inspired. With PG Live 2016 moving back to its May dates (10-11), the British Craft Trade Fair (BCTF) opening its doors in London for the very first time, and Emerald Expositions launching the inaugural Brand Licensing Select in New York - both in September - there's more to see than ever as the year unfolds. So get out those comfy shoes, grab a bottle of water, head for the aisles and get ready to be inspired!

Brand Licensing Europe Brand Licensing Europe (BLE) 2015 is the largest and most prestigious licensing event in Europe.
BLE 2015, which ran from October 13-15, was officially the biggest show yet in its 17 year history. More retailers attended the 2015 show than ever before, with a 19% rise on the previous year. A total of 7,203 visitors (BPA Audited) attended across the three days, with one third attending from overseas. The show played host to over 300 exhibitors, of which 90 were new, and floor space totalling 7,364 square meters. Categories, including automotive, sport, food and beverage, beauty, music, publishing and heritage, experienced growth, with the likes of Volkswagen, PGA Tour, PEPSI, Vimto International, Lee Stafford, NOW! That’s What I Call Music, Stanfords and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust exhibiting for the first time.
Left: BLE’s biggest ever character parade. Below left: The Moomin’s keynote address in the Licensing Academy. Bottom: A birds-eyeview of BLE 2015.
The Retail Mentoring Programme was also the biggest yet since its launch six years ago. It included over 35 individual buyers from 12 major UK retailers. In addition, the largest ever character parade took place on the first day, with an eye-catching 80 characters making their way down the central aisle, generating press coverage in The Times and The Independent newspapers and showcasing the industry to the wider world.
There were more educational sessions on offer, with 25 to choose from split between the Licensing Academy and the Brands & Lifestyle Theatres. YouTube celebrity and Blogilates founder, Cassey Ho, held the first keynote discussing the impact of YouTube celebrities in licensing. In the second keynote, Moomin Characters’ Sophia Jansson took visitors on the brand’s 70 year journey from inception to its current footing in the market where it now has more than 600 licensees. The License This! Challenge took place for the sixth year running and offered those with brand new creative concepts the chance to break into the global licensing industry. A host of applicants were whittled down to just four finalists, with winning entry OiDroids, presented by Jonathan Klemenz, awarded a fully furnished stand at BLE 2016 and a year’s membership to LIMA. Darren Brechin, BLE Event Director, said: “The 2015 show was the best yet, with more retailers, exhibitors and education than ever before. We are now looking forward to developing the next event and building on this success.”

CHSI Stitches 2016
The CHSI Stitches trade show at the NEC, Birmingham, will be bigger than ever in February 2016 following unprecedented demand for stand space. More than 230 exhibitors will fill the show, with many companies taking larger stand space showcasing extended product ranges and new collections. With a fresh new logo and a new name echoing the show’s original name, CHSI Stitches is set for a bumper show in 2016 and remains Europe’s No 1 trade show for the art, craft, needlecraft, fabric and hobby industry.
CHSI Stitches organiser, ICHF Events, is welcoming back some major players in the industry for the 2016 show, including Coats Crafts UK. Companies taking larger stand space at the 2016 trade show include Visage Textiles and The Craft Cotton Company, Creativ Company from Denmark, Via Nova International from Netherlands and the John Bead Corporation from USA. CHSI 2016 will also welcome a host of companies exhibiting for the first time including leading craft and sewing supplies wholesaler Jomil UK; Chester Wool, UK manufacturer of undyed yarns, and fabric wholesaler Quality Textiles from the Netherlands.
Anna Mitchell, Managing Director Coats Crafts UK says: “We are really excited to be exhibiting at CHSI Stitches 2016 and showcasing our latest designer collaborations in both handknit and fabric. We look forward to welcoming visitors to our stand K14.” A Narnia-inspired yarn display, ‘Yarnia’ will also be unveiled for the first
time at CHSI Stitches 2016. The stunning display, commissioned by Readicut, features the well-known characters from the epic tale by C.S. Lewis created using a variety of fabrics and techniques including crochet, applique, felt and hand knitting. Pre-registration is now open. All trade visitors registered in advance of the show are entered into a prize draw held each day of the show to win £1000 to spend on supplies with exhibitors at or after the show. Alongside exhibitors showcasing the latest trends and products, CHSI Stitches presents a Catwalk show bringing new fabric, bead and yarn collections to life, as well as the popular Bright Sparks Pavilion which hosts the best up-andcoming products from new start-up companies. Free workshops, giving retailers hands-on experience and skills with new products, also run throughout the event covering all areas of the creative craft industry. Exposé Travel
Visiting or exhibiting at a trade show - whether in the UK or internationally - can be a costly business, with hotels and travel expenses often a stumbling block. But costs can be realistic. Experts in business trips, Exposé Travel, the official UK travel partner for a host of leading home and gift shows around the world, offer extremely competitive rates for both air fares and hotels, with savings of up to 60% off standard fares. From Chicago’s International Home & Housewares Show to Birmingham’s Spring and Autumn Fairs, Hong Kong’s Gift & Premium Fair, China’s Canton Fair and The Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, Exposé Travel offers specially negotiated rates for both flights and accommodation. “Of course, it depends on when people are travelling, but the company’s expertise is in providing very competitive air fares for both exhibitors and visitors,” explains Paul Vasdev, “using reputable airlines that fly from all UK major airports. “We also have direct access to a wide variety of hotels in the USA, thereby making attending the Las Vegas’ Licensing Show or Chicago’s International Home + Housewares Show realistic possibilities. But it’s not just America. We can make suggestions as to where people might stay when they’re at a trade fair virtually anywhere in the world, and at the best possible prices, as we deal with over
70,000 hotels and 7,500 destinations worldwide. As a result, we are the first choice for many individuals and companies in the gift and home arena who travel regularly to fairs on business.” For suppliers and retailers who are members of The Giftware Association or BHETA, costs come down even further. Exposé Travel also works closely with UKTI and British Consulates abroad and together are able to offer great benefits to participants to exhibitions worldwide. “Exposé Travel offers specially negotiated prices for members of trade associations such as these, as well as special delegation leader rates too,” confirms Paul. But it’s not just companies attending show internationally who benefit.

Jinhan Fair
The 32nd Jinhan Fair for Home & Gifts covered an area of 83,000 square meters, and brought together 800 credible and competitive manufacturers in China’s home and gift industry. Each session of the Fair has attracted over 50,000 overseas buyers from over 160 countries and regions, which include importers, wholesalers, franchisers, department stores and supermarkets from the global home and gift industry. A wonderful show, featuring beautiful and exquisite premium home products, was presented by 800 exhibitors at the 83,000 sqm venue of the 32nd Jinhan Fair. Tens of thousands of refined products, under six categories, including home decoration, decorative furniture, seasonal decoration, outdoor & garden, gifts and household items, were exhibited in the eight exhibition areas, plus the outdoor exhibition area of Poly World Trade Center. In recent years, Made in Southeast Asian Regions has posed challenges to Made in China for their lower costs, but visiting Jinhan Fair gradually becomes a 'journey of surprises' for buyers. A huge number of products for selection, reasonable purchasing prices, improved quality and own brand innovations become the core competitiveness, appealing to the 50,000 visitors from 160 foreign countries and regions. Leading buyers who placed big purchasing orders at Jinhan Fair included Maxima Grupe and Migros (top 250 retailers in the world), Maxita and CP International (renowned French home product importers), Puckator (a leading gift importer from UK), Jumbo Sa (a home product importer from Greece), Michel Toys and Handels-Gmbh (big buyers for Christmasworld from Germany), Tedi Gmbh&Co.kg (a German
chain with more than 1300 stores), Midwest-CBK (a retailer well known to all families in the US), Zara Home (the retailer tycoon from Spain), etc. Jinhan Fair has always received countless favorable comments from its strong line-up of starry exhibitors where buyers can find the best foreign trade enterprises of home and gift products in China. Some are leading tycoons with proven achievements in the industry, others are up-andcoming new brands with great vitality, but they jointly present new home and gift products at the Fair. More than 100 renowned enterprises continue to promote their new collections, such as
Minxing from Minhou County, Yingfa from Anxi County and Nanyang from Quanzhou City in Fujian Province, Sincere from Shanghai and Homepaint Woodcarving from Zhengzhou. Some exhibitors are making their first appearance, such as Moke and Xianju Spring from Taizhou City, Jianwen from Wenzhou City and Summer from Ningbo City, showcasing a wealth of their own products to provide a diversity of trade options to the buyers. The 33th & 34th Jinhan Fair for Home & Gifts will be staged during April and October, 21st to 27th, in Poly World Trade Center, Guanzhou, China. Jinhan Fair for Home & Gifts is organised by Guangzhou Poly Jinhan Exhibition Co., and has been held successfully in Guangzhou for 32 sessions, in Spring and Autumn every year. It is an export trade platform next to the Canton Fair, focusing more on the professional sector of home and gifts. It is also the only UFI approved export trading fair of home and gifts in China.
