Japan is a busy but beautiful city Japan is delicate cherry blossoms that can get so pretty Japan is where people always use the train or bike Japan is Mount Fuji, a splendid place to hike Japan is sushi, soba and rice Japan is gyoza, miso soup and sashimi slice Japan is temples, pagodas and shrines Japan is confusing but cool-looking kanji signs Japan is snow monkeys and samurai lords In their shining armor and sharp as a needle samurai swords Japan is bonsais, sumo wrestlers and earthquakes that shake Japan is Mochi that you pound to make Japan is my home, were I lived for so long And calling anywhere else home would just sound so wrong. Japan is ASIJ, where I go to school But mostly Japan is so different, unique and cool.
I cannot write a poem Not a single verse It’s just that at Poetry… I am getting worse and worse First I can’t think of what to write about Frustrated-I just want to scream and shout Then I tried to rhyme but I couldn’t It was so bad I knew I shouldn’t I got confused with a metaphor I thought it was a simile and something more Then when we learned alliteration I probably shamed the entire nation After that it was line breaks And I was like “For heavens sakes!” It was Onomonopeioa that got me mad
I couldn’t do it and it was so sad Personification got me all confused Everyone was all amused! With repetition I was a joke! Worst poet record I probably broke Then I realized I had given up forever And I wouldn’t do poetry again ever Then I saw the others in my class Writing poem after poem until the last I decided I couldn’t give up yet And I worked so hard I began to sweat I started off really easy And although the poetry made me really queasy Look where I am now! I can write a hundred poems Or a billion a verse And I realized that at poetry I’m really not the worst.
Snowflakes glittering in the sky Fluttering down from way up high Snow dancing lightly to the ground Kids are throwing snow around Snowballs zipping here and there Flying up into the air The wonderland upon me is pure white I’ve never seen such a pretty sight Winter hats, gloves and boots Snow falling in the chimney shoots Kids making snowmen as the wind blows With a scarf and a hat and a carrot nose Hot chocolate to make you warm In the snowing blizzard storm The snow is soft, cold and light Like a shining crystal glowing bright Snow makes winters really fun Too bad it melts in the shining sun
I’m a shopaholic I’m a shopaholic I’m a shopaholic When I go to a clothes store I just want more and more I go to Forever 21 once a week I stare at all the clothes But once I buy a dress H&M on Mondays I slowly close the door A week later it’s a bore I’m such a shopping freak I stare at all the shirts I tell myself every time Aeropostales is on Fridays And I see a pretty dress Just this, just this very one Every other day is gap I marvel at the high heels But then my shopping bag is full Shopping is my addiction The soft fabric I caress By the time I’m done I can’t stop I need a slap I’m a shopaholic I’m a shopaholic I’m a shopaholic I just can’t help myself I know 50 different brands Clothes for me is like air But I’m running out of money I love to feel that weight I need it all the time Now all I need is more wealth Of shopping bags in my hands I buy anything I can wear I see the different colors I know that when I’m older If I don’t have more I’ll die Black as the night, white as milk They wont fit and I’ll be broke I need more clothes quick I see the different fabrics But shopping isn’t a crime And I just can’t help it Denim, leather, lace, silk I don’t take drugs or smoke I’m a shopaholic
Saying Goodbye For Lilly and Anna
When I found a perfect friend, I thought it’ll never have an end But when she said she was going to leave, It was really sad and it was hard to believe Then she moved and she was gone, and everything felt very wrong The whole world tipped upside down, My smile turned into a frown But when everything began to fall apart, then I found her in my heart I know that she’ll always be there, and of that I will always be aware Slowly my heart will begin to mend, and I’ll always find another friend But nobody like I knew because no one will be the same as you -Maya Blodgett
Earthquake Earth-shake Everyone is screaming Then they all run Lasts forever When will it be done? The ground moves Tilting to the side How many people are hurt? How many have died? Quick go under a table Or under a chair Glass shatters; cups fall Why now-it’s not fair The lights go out Electricity is gone
Wait no it’s not The TV turns on The Earthquake is there Shining on the screen But also—a tsunami? And a terrible scene Houses washed away People dead everywhere More than a thousand hurt A sight I can hardly bear I begin to tremble I begin to shake All because the Tsunami And the horrible Earthquake!
Fireworks A burst of colors in the sky Brilliant streaks of light way up high The canons slowly load Then quickly explode As fireworks fill the sky Boom Boom screams of delight A big spiraling rainbow Blinding swirls of light Colors making a great show Up they twirl Then they swirl Then they burst And that sound is the worst But you must admit It is worth it Like a bird flying; swooping around In the sky so far from the ground The fourth of July Is quite a sight for your eye The neon colors is like a smack To the dark night sky so inky black Fireworks Fireworks What a sight Fireworks fireworks In the night
Flower A beautiful flower As blue as the sea With purple tips Attracting a bumblebee Soft as a silk Petals delicate as a fairy’s wing Next to the grass were the drops of dew cling In the center a bright red swirl Long streaks of magenta curl The more I look, the more beauty I see This flower is simply a fantasy.
Ocean Deep blue aqua waves crashing On the sandy shore glittery indigo sea You shall want more and more Red umbrellas on a white sandy beach Seashells of every kind, every color, each Different with shape and size Cloudless sunny skies If you see a tropical fish Close your eyes and make a wish The beach is a magical place to be Go and enjoy yourself swimming in the sea.
