Natyre

Page 1

INSPIRATION Inspiration for Natyre was originally developed from the W in the hand lettered title on sheet music for a 1922 foxtrot ballad called When Will the Sun Shine for Me. The W had long extended strokes that came together at the bottom, producing long, thin points. To differentiate Natyre from this type I decided to add a curvature to make the left stroke rounded. Also, to make the typeface more unique, I made the right stroke curvier. The type, later one, reminded me about things that I tend to see out on nature; such as, seedlings, flower petals, butterfly wings, and water droplets. This is where the name Natyre came from.

DESIGNERThis typeface was created by Maya DeNofio when she was a senior Communication Design student at Kutztown University. As part of a typeface design class she spent hours and designing letter forms based on prompts provided by her professor. When her professor brought in a trunk filled with her grandmothers old sheet music she took pictures of some of the titles that she found particularly beautiful. That night, while doing her homework, she noticed the long elegant strokes in the W and became inpired. She began to skeyched other letters and developed an enchanting B that she fell in love with and based this alphabet on.
