United Nations Environment Programme Stakeholders’ Day Prior to the Second Session on the Plenary to Decide on Modalities and Institutional Arrangements of IPBES (IPBES.MI/2) 15 April 2012, Panama City, Panama Hotel Riu Plaza Draft Annotated Agenda This second Stakeholders Day is facilitated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the International Council for Science (ICSU), at the request of UNEP.
Goals The overall goal is to provide a platform to discuss stakeholders’ engagement in the future IPBES and more specifically, To ensure a collective update on the outcomes of the first session of a plenary meeting on IPBES and the on-going processes towards preparing for an active participation of all stakeholders in the second session of the IPBES plenary; To provide a follow-up to discussions held during the first stakeholder day, held prior to the first session of a plenary meeting on IPBES (Nairobi, 2 Oct 2011); To focus discussions on the engagement of all stakeholders in IPBES, as part of the discussion on the rules of procedure; To draw out common messages and one in particular to be conveyed to the plenary towards the approval of relevant rules of procedure and participation of stakeholders in the IPBES.

Update on the options being considered for the governance of IPBES and in particular on the place of non-governmental stakeholders; Presentation of an analysis of existing stakeholders engagement mechanisms in UNEP, UNESCO, FAO and UNDP Presentation of the joint proposal of UNEP, UNESCO, FAO and UNDP to host the Secretariat of IPBES, focusing on provisions on stakeholders’ engagement Questions An information document and the official document IPBES.MI/2/6 will support this session.
