STEM Summer 2017 Programs Maydm gives girls and students of color the skills to dream ambitiously. We make learning programming and computer technology fun. Explore your imagination and learn how to integrate tech. skills and computer science fundamentals with our 2017 summer programs. Become a part of a larger community with our established mentors and passionate instructors. Bold futures in technology start here.

Note: Maydm will provide students morning and afternoon snacks, however each student should bring his or her own lunch.

Elementary Programs Grades 4 & 5 BUILDING THE DIGITAL WORLD Learn how the digital world AROUND YOU around us is changing! Build

ART, ANIMATION AND Like patterns? Art? Computers? COMPUTATION This is the class for you!

in and around those changes. Discover the world of virtual reality through Google Cardboard, learn to build and program fun mobile apps and engage with other exciting technologies like augmented reality, tablets, wearable tech, and more!

Technology has put art into a golden age. Discover everything from animation to digital drawing to 360 degree photography. Use programming to create beautiful works of procedurally generated art and animation. Embrace your imagination with 360 degree photography and art in the virtual world!

Middle School Programs Grades 6-8

MOBILE-MINDED Phones and mobile DEVELOPMENT technology allow for endless room for fun, trendy, and helpful new apps. Learn how to build and program mobile apps of your own in a 2-week long course that engages with the new-age of mobile development. Embark on a journey through the history of app development and make an in-depth Android app!

INTRODUCTION TO WEB Learn how to program by building DEVELOPMENT an interactive website with HTML, CSS, and Javascript! This exciting class offers opportunities for students to learn and grow with experimental new technologies, while building off of the tried and true foundations of web development and computer science. By the end of the class, expect to have your mind blown by your own code. Surprises and challenges await.

Middle School Programs Grades 6-8

THE INTERSECTION OF FASHION AND TECHNOLOGY Computer hardware doesn’t have to be just for watching cat videos and writing emails. Fashion and technology go hand-in-hand. Learn to use hardware to make the next trendy outfit, build and program wearables to light up, and exercise your imagination to combine tech and craft!

Course Features: • Building wearable technology using Arduino mini-computers • Learn about and use 3D printing • Discover how computers are present in our lives outside of traditional means • Engage with new startups to see how technology is changing the fashion industry and our perception of computers

High School Programs Grades 9-12

HEALTHCARE IT Dates: 7/10 - 7/28 Time: 8:30am - 11:30am

Cost: $1,040 Location: 100State - Education Room 316 W Washington Ave #675

Explore the intersections of healthcare, information technology, computer science, and development in our new three week Healthcare IT course. Biotechnology and advanced healthcare IT have pushed the ticket for what’s possible in medical science today. This course will take a look at those advancements through the lenses of Madison’s robust healthcare IT landscape. Learn with mentors in the healthcare IT field. Design and build a healthcare IT project app. Learn fundamental web development and design basics, have fun and discover the medical field!

Course Features: • Healthcare IT research and development • Engagement with local companies, such as Healthmyne, and more • Web development and programmings basics • Discussion of pressing questions in healthcare and brainstorming answers • Immersion into potential opportunities in healthcare and biotech

The internet has become the primary medium for information exchange, which means that the skills and knowledge to interact with and build on the web are invaluable. Creating stunning websites is fun and easier than ever. New technologies allow for exciting opportunities that have never been seen before, such as virtual reality web platforms. Learn to build and code interactive websites. Explore new technologies and get in touch with your imagination, all in this 3 week summer course!

Typical Week: Monday: Learning activity and website building Tuesday: Field Trip/mentor visits Wednesday: Work with mentors on project building Thursday: Project web app, team building, outdoor activity Friday: Showcasing and recapping with mentors

Course Features: • Discover the web and what makes it run (from DNS to router to webpage to the cloud) • Practice programming, computer science, and problem solving fundamentals • Learn about UI/UX design and why it’s critical to building extraordinary websites • Research the future of the web • Explore programmatic animation, art, and sound

Scholarship Information Dependent on your household income and family size, you may be eligible for a scholarship, please look at the chart detailing eligibility. If interested in a scholarship, when signing up for summer sessions, you will be prompted to submit your student’s essay and your most recent tax return to verify household income to verify household income. Upon completion, you will pay an installment equivalent to 10% of tuition**, and will be sent a code to pay the remainder of the reduced fee if offered a scholarship. Example: If your family makes $57,000 and has 5 members, you will be eligible for a scholarship covering 60% of tuition. You will first pay a 10% installment, then a remainder of 30% if granted the scholarship. If we are unable to extend a scholarship to your child, you are able to have the 10% installment refunded. **Some are eligible for a full tuition scholarship, refer to the chart on the next page.
