A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, Tony Award-winning Matilda the Musical was originally presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company in November 2010. It later transferred to West End’s Cambridge Theater where it still runs. It is the winner of 100 international awards including 24 for Best Musical. It is, simply put, a story about an extraordinary, clever young girl who, with the help of her favorite teachers, a lot of books, and a little bit of magic, stands up to her cruel and ignorant parents and her horribly abusive Headmistress.

“Nobody but me is going to put it right for me, nobody but me is going to change my story,” proclaims our determined and inspiring young hero, Matilda Wormwood. She teaches us that no matter how big or small you are, no matter your upbringing, or what anyone’s opinion of you is, you have the power to change the world – and that power is with you always.

I was reminded of this message every single day working on this production. The incredible talent, energy, optimism, determination, professionalism and positivity that exuded from our young performers was truly inspiring! I can only imagine the incredible stories that each of their futures will tell and the wonderful ways they will change the world!!

This production would not have happened without our incredible staff and production team! It is a huge team effort and every single step has been a joy. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. A special thank you also to our Guest Artists for mentoring and inspiring our young performers! Working side by side with you is a priceless experience for them.

To our audience and supporters, thank you all for being here today and supporting our program! We hope you’ll leave today singing, smiling and inspired to change your story! (And remember - “Sometimes you’ve got to be a little bit naughty!”)

Sincerely,

Cathy Roy Director
