What is BITCOIN? Bitcoin is a digital currency, created and held electronically. No one controls it. Bitcoins aren’t printed, like dollars, yen, pounds, naira, cedi or euros – they’re produced by people, and increasingly businesses, running through computers and phones all around the world, using software that solves mathematical problems. It’s the first example of a growing category of money known as cryptocurrency.

Who created BITCOIN? A software developers group called Satoshi Nakamoto proposed bitcoin, which was an electronic payment system based on mathematical proof. The idea was to produce a currency independent of any central authority, transferable electronically, more or less instantly, with very low transaction fees. And there is no regulatory body, government, bank or authority to control/manipulate the system like the paper money we spend daily. Bitcoin is a crypto-currency (Digital-Money). It was introduced on 31 October 2008 to a cryptography mailing list, and released as open-source software in 2009. The system is peer-topeer, and transactions take place between users directly, without an intermediary. These transactions are verified by network nodes and recorded in a public distributed ledger called the blockchain, which uses bitcoin as its unit of account. Since the system works without a central repository or single administrator, the U.S. Treasury categorizes bitcoin as a decentralized virtual currency without “RESTRICTION”. Bitcoin is often called the first crypto-currency, and it is more correctly described as the first decentralized digital currency. It is the largest of its kind in terms of total market value. It is created as a payment system in which users owned a blockchain (wallet) for sending and receiving bitcoin. It can also can be exchanged for other fiat currencies around the world. As of February 2015, over 100,000 merchants and vendors accept bitcoin as payment globally. Instead of a 2–3% fee typically imposed by credit card processors, merchants accepting bitcoins often pay fees of 0% to less than 2% of the total purchase. Despite the fourfold increase in the number of merchants accepting bitcoin in 2014.

Who monitors/process all BITCOIN Transactions?

THE Miners. Mining is the process of adding transaction records to Bitcoin's public ledger of past transactions. This ledger of past transactions is called the block chain as it is a chain of blocks. The block chain serves to confirm transactions to the rest of the network as having taken place. Bitcoin nodes use the block chain to distinguish legitimate Bitcoin transactions from attempts to re-spend coins that have already been spent elsewhere. Mining is intentionally designed to be resource-intensive and difficult so that the number of blocks found each day by miners remains steady. Individual blocks must contain a proof of work to be considered valid. This proof of work is verified by other Bitcoin nodes each time they receive a block. Bitcoin uses the hashcash proof-of-work function. The primary purpose of mining is to allow Bitcoin nodes to reach a secure, tamper-resistant consensus. Mining is also the mechanism used to introduce Bitcoins into the system: Miners are paid any transaction fees as well as a "subsidy" of newly created coins. This both serves the purpose of disseminating new coins in a decentralized manner as well as motivating people to provide security for the system. Bitcoin mining is so called because it resembles the mining of other commodities: it requires exertion and it slowly makes new currency available at a rate that resembles the rate at which commodities like gold are mined from the ground.

What is Blockchain Repeating: Blockchain is a bitcoin wallet, just like having a bank account where your fiat money is kept.
