elcome to Salisbury Food & Drink Festival. We would love you to join us in celebrating some of the region’s finest food and drink over a fantastic week of foodie events. The Festival runs from Monday 15 – Sunday 21 September, culminating in the ever popular Food & Drink Festival Market. The newly developed Market Place and Guildhall Square will host more stalls of local and regional produce than ever before, spreading into the Guildhall itself. Look out for street theatre company Wet Picnic’s explosive and eccentric take on afternoon tea, learn new recipes and tips from an exciting range of professional chef demonstrations, and relax and enjoy live music while sampling local and regional cuisine and street food.

hroughout the week, we have an array of tempting events on the menu, with a visit from Thane Prince, who joins us from BBC2’s The Big Allotment Challenge, to share her tips for the perfect preserve; workshops, rambles and talks from Neal’s Yard; a food foraging walk and riotous cocktail hour with John Wright from River Cottage; a sparkling wine tasting at Cambridge Wines and a delicious film Chef at Salisbury Arts Centre. Look out for our Festival competition to design a new pancake filling, and take time to visit local cafés and restaurants offering special events and menus throughout the week.

Sunday 21 September, 10am – 5pm Salisbury Market Place & Guildhall, Free With more local and regional stalls than ever before, the Food & Drink Festival Market is set to be a bustling and eventful day of alfresco dining and international street food; street theatre and professional chef demonstrations; live music and a beer tent stocked with local beers, ales and ciders. Spreading out through the newly-developed Market Place and Guildhall Square, into the Guildhall itself, stalls will be offering a fantastic selection of produce including chutneys, luxury cheeses, artisan coffee, churros and a wide range of meats. It will be a delicious day out for everybody from the organics addict to the beer aficionado and the aspiring young chef.

Time for Tea by Wet Picnic 11.30am, 2pm, 4pm, 30 minutes Market Place and Guildhall Square, Free Modern daily life is full of hectic stresses and strains. Everybody needs to take some time out, have a rest, share a moment and celebrate the simple things in life. Wet Picnic’s tea ladies sweep through the streets to supply an explosive and surreal teatime for everyone to enjoy! Your taste buds will tingle at the sight of this eccentric ensemble which is as fabulous and fruity as the cake that gets eaten.

Family Fun with Food 11am – 4pm Guildhall, Banqueting Hall, Free Bring your little ones along to have fun with food! Enjoy drop-in creative play activities and take part in food-themed workshops. Outside in the Market Place join in the ever popular egg and spoon race or, new for 2014, the Food Festival ingredients treasure hunt.

Music at the Market Sit back and relax to the laid-back sounds of acoustic musicians from Salisbury Arts Centre’s Live Lunch sessions, performing in the Guildhall Square and Crown Court Café during the afternoon. Visit Salisbury Arts Centre’s stall for more acoustic music and short video film screenings and look out for the Tibetan Monks of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery who will be performing and offering workshops.

Jeff the Chef has just returned from a round the world gourmet trip and will be tempting you with tastes and tales from his travels. Jeff, who has been a professional chef for over 50 years and during his career has worked with a range of celebrity chefs including Jean-Christophe Novelli and the Roux Brothers, will bring his usual infectious enthusiasm for food and share with you his love of cooking.

Join chef Toby from the Rivers Edge Restaurant at the Rose & Crown Hotel where he has been cooking at the hotel for over 40 years as he reveals the recipe for his famous chicken and seafood paella.

Professional nutritionist Monica Price is the national representative for the Co-operative’s ‘Love Food Hate Waste’ campaign. She will be cooking delicious recipes from the Co-operative Food Magazine in her professional chef demonstration. Join her to find out easy and practical things we can all do to waste less food and discover tasty recipes to use up leftovers, benefiting both your purse and our environment.

Christine Wallace 2013 Great British Bake Off finalist Christine Wallace will be joining us to host a baking demonstration. Christine likes to put her own twist on traditional bakes but her real passion is for making and decorating cakes, especially using sugarcraft. Having baked with her grandmother since she was a little girl Christine still finds baking the perfect way to relax and she’ll have lots of tips and stories to tell from her time in the kitchen, especially from the Great British Bake Off.

Peter Vaughan trained with the elite of the culinary world, worked in Michelin star restaurants and completed a diploma in nutrition and herbalism to enable him to develop his ‘naturally balanced’ approach. This is at the heart of his restaurant, The Bistro, Devizes, and his cookery school Vaughan’s Kitchen. Peter also frequents the small screen on programmes such as Dinner Doctors and BBC Breakfast.

Rachel Heathcote, Medical Herbalist, takes you on a gentle walk through the beautiful Cathedral Close teaching about the medicinal plants which grow there as you walk. Heading back indoors at Neal’s Yard Remedies, you will then get hands–on making some simple remedies including elderberry syrup, lemon balm tincture, marigold macerated oil and herbal baths.
