Over the past four decades, Indian economy has emerged from a predominantly agriculture dominated economy with large number of small scale industries to a Services dominated
economy (57% of GDP) followed by Industry (26% of GDP) and Agriculture (17% of GDP) in
recent years. Although Agriculture and allied sectors like Forestry and Fishing still account for
51% of the total work force, Services (27%) and Industry (22%) have gained tremendous momentum over the past decades and hold increasingly more number of workforce year on year.
