1. Focus your attention on the subject

The key to obtaining a good and candid shot, no matter the type of lens used, is to draw the viewer’s attention to the subject in question. Focus is not only achieved through bonding with the subject pre-shoot but also making them feel at ease in front of the lens. The model would then give a raw emotion performance during the shoot. It would be pragmatic for the photographer also to get ideas of what the subject expects from the portrait to gain a balance and achieve the highest level of quality.

2. Select a background or environment that suits the desired outcome

A good photographer must choose a background that blends in well with the personality, feel, facial expression, and attire of the model. Before the actual shoot, meticulous attention must be given towards detail, which is the background of the shoot. A serene environment and atmosphere will be of great help. However, the artist must understand that backgrounds are of different types. There are several types of backgrounds; cloth backdrops, sunsets and sunrises, flora, or even buildings.

3.

The lens that you choose makes a big difference

The lens used should bring out the best possible variation of skin tone, clarity, brightness, contrast, and color. The hue that is the outcome should be in line with what the artist had imagined and was gunning for before doing the photo-shoot. Different lenses dictate how wide and how the visuals will appear in the final portrait. #mayurrele

4. Consider the behavior of light in the shoot.

Photography is all about the right amount of useful light. Even the name photography implies the usage of light. Natural light is applicable where attention is being drawn to the background of the image or the surroundings. Artificial light is drawn from studio flash generators, flashguns, lamps, and reflective umbrellas. The use of artificial lighting is governed by the application of some basic physics principles. The photographer should understand the natural behavior of light, that it is rectilinearly propagated across surfaces and how it is reflected on objects.

5.

Show a high level of dedication and devotion to the work

Although all the other conditions may be just right, nothing worthwhile would come from a mediocre photographer. Mediocre, in the sense that he or she has not done their work with due diligence.
