46 More People Die from Covid-19 o In last 24 hours, 2704 people were diagnosed with Covid-19, 46 people lost their lives, the number of cases rose to 13.531 and the total death toll reached 214 people in Turkey, Health Ministry declares. (Turkish)

98 Citizens Abroad Lost Their Lives o Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu revealed information about the status of Turkish citizens settled abroad. Minister said 98 Turkish citizens living abroad lost their lives due to the virus pandemic. (Turkish)

50 Districts, Villages, Hamlets In Quarantine o Turkey quarantined a total of 39 settlements to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, Suleyman Soylu, Interior Minister, said on Monday. The settlements, including one district, six neighborhoods, 28 villages and four hamlets in 18 provinces, will be in quarantine as of Monday. (Turkish)

Turkey’s Centre Of Pandemic Is Istanbul o Ekrem Imamoglu, Istanbul Mayor, talked about the novel coronavirus pandemic. “The centre of the pandemic in Turkey is Istanbul right now. In terms of both cases and deaths. We estimate there are over 60% of cases in Istanbul,” he said. (Turkish)

Rents of Agricultural Fields of Treasury Delayed For 6 Months o Murat Kurum, Environment and Urbanization Minister, talked as follows: “Farmers who rented out agricultural fields belonging to the treasury are allowed to delay their payments of April, May, June for 6 months due to the coronavirus epidemic.” (Turkish)

Un Warns That Syria Mıiht Not Survive Covıd-19 o Syria is at “high risk” of being unable to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, Geir Pedersen, the UN Special Envoy for the country said on Monday, reiterating calls for a “complete, immediate nationwide ceasefire” to enable an all-out-effort to counter the march of the new coronavirus. 1 in Every 20 European Is Already Infected. o Nearly 18 million people have been infected with coronavirus, according to an Imperial College report from eleven Western European countries. (French)

Coronavirus Increased Medical Teleconsultations 15 Times o The number of remote consultations is increasing rapidly in France. According to Medicare figures, 601,000 teleconferences took place between 1 and 28 March. There were only 40,000 in February. (French)

Britain's Tesco Recruits 35,000 Workers o Britain’s biggest retailer Tesco (TSCO.L) said on Tuesday it had recruited 35,000 additional workers in the last 10 days to help get it through the coronavirus emergency, which has triggered a dramatic increase in demand for groceries. (English)

USTR Remarks Domestic Medical Supply Manufacture o United States Trade Representative (USTR) says “Coronavirus shows U.S. too dependent on cheap medical imports.” U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said the United States would seek to promote more domestic manufacturing of key medical supplies in light of the strategic vulnerabilities laid bare by the coronavirus pandemic. World's Busiest Border Falls Quiet o The world’s busiest land border has fallen quiet as restrictions to contain the coronavirus prevent millions of Mexicans from making daily trips north, including many who work in U.S. businesses. (English)

China Handles Return of Native Students Carefully o The rapidly worsening situation around the world due to the novel coronavirus pandemic has forced many countries to close down schools to curb the spread of the virus, which has affected Chinese students studying there, particularly those in the worst hit countries and regions. Aside from the threat posed by the novel coronavirus, a number of these students have also become the target of social discrimination and xenophobia in some places. Global Stocks and US Futures Move Higher After China's Economy Shows Signs of Life o Most major indexes in Asia advanced, and European markets opened higher. The Shanghai Composite (SHCOMP) added 0.1%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index (HSI) increased 1.4%. The FTSE 100 (UKX) jumped up 2% in London, while Germany's DAX (DAX) and France's CAC 40 (CAC40) posted similar gains. (English)

China Says Manufacturing Activity Expanded In March, Defying Expectations Of A Contraction o China on Tuesday said the official Purchasing Manager’s Index for March was 52.0, beating expectations for an economy hit by the coronavirus outbreak. China’s manufacturing activity slowed dramatically earlier this year as the government instituted large-scale lockdowns and quarantines to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease, formally known as COVID-19. Dow sinks, virus pushes it to sharpest quarterly plunge in over three decades o Wall Street’s three major indexes tumbled on Tuesday, with the Dow registering its biggest quarterly decline since 1987 and the S&P 500 suffering its deepest quarterly drop since the financial crisis on growing evidence of massive economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic. The Dow Has Spiked Nearly 4,000 Points in a Week but That Doesn't Mean The Crisis Is Over o The Dow has skyrocketed 3,736 points, or 20%, over the past week. Air Liquide Will Produce As Many Artificial Respirators In 50 Days As In Three Years o Benoît Potier tells how the group intends to take up the challenge to produce 10,000 respirators in fifty days. A considerable challenge. (French)

Oil Prices Are On Track For Their Worst Ever Quarter o A public health crisis has meant countries around the world have effectively had to shut down, with many governments imposing draconian measures on the daily lives of hundreds of millions of people Oil consumption has collapsed by at least 25% compared to 2019 levels of 100 million barrels per day (b/d), according to analysts at Eurasia Group, with severe restrictions on global movement and most retail in lockdown. Chinese Automaker Geely Says It’s On Track To Meet Output Target o Geely Automobile said it was expecting business to recover in the near-term after a disappointing year. The Hangzhou-headquartered automaker plans to fulfill 40,000 car orders in the coming weeks, its vice chairman and executive director, Daniel Li, told CNBC. Geely’s profits dropped 35% in 2019 amid a dampening in the Chinese autos industry and coronavirus factory closures. (English)

China to Strengthen Quality Control of Medical Supply Exports o China will encourage companies to expand the production of medical supplies to help the global fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while ensuring the quality of these exports, the Ministry of Commerce said. The ministry said investigations will be carried out into any cases with potential quality issues and vowed zero tolerance on such issues. (English)

Art Basel Postponed As Switzerland Closes Borders o One of the art world's biggest events, Art Basel, has been postponed as the coronavirus pandemic continues to grip Europe, it was announced the four-day event will now be held in September. The Swiss art fair, which last year attracted almost 93,000 visitors from around the world. (English)

6. SPORTS •

Wimbledon Cancellation Seems Inevitable o The All England Club says a final decision is yet to be made, but the cancellation of the Championships for the first time since the Second World War now seems inevitable. The Wimbledon Championships are due to run for two weeks from Monday 29 June. The French Open has already been pushed back four months to late September because of the coronavirus pandemic.
