Death Toll In Turkey Rises 75 to 649 People o Health Ministry of Turkey has revealed 75 more people lost their lives due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total death toll to 649. The number of cases rose by 3.148 to 30.217 patients. (Turkish)

Health Minister Koca: If We Succeed in Isolation, We Can Benefit from Early Measures Absolutely o “Turkey is the first European country to take anti-coronavirus precautions. Two Pandemic Hospitals Will Be Opened in Istanbul: President Erdogan o Turkey will establish two new hospitals with a capacity of 1,000 beds each in Istanbul to aid in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish President, announced on Monday. One of the hospitals will be built in Ataturk Airport on the city’s European side while the other will be built in Sancaktepe on the Asian side. (Turkish)

Minister Gul: 12 Judges-Prosecutors And 55 Personnel Tested Positive For Coronavirus o Abdulhamit Gul, Turkish Justice Minister, said on April 6 that 12 judges and prosecutors and 55 judiciary personnel have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He said that their health situation is “well” and some are receiving treatment in hospitals, while some are being treated at their homes. (Turkish)

Medicine Protocol with Pharmacies Extended o Zehra Zumrut Selcuk, Family, Labour and Social Services Minister, has revealed that Social Security Institution (SSI) and Turkish Pharmacists’ Association (TEB) signed an additional protocol regarding the supply of medicines. Minister Selcuk the current protocol signed within the scope of the anti-coronavirus precautions shall remain valid until a new protocol is inked. (Turkish)

Italy is Ravaged by Coronavirus o Four weeks into a nationwide lockdown, very few Italians are still singing from their balconies or banging pots and pans in solidarity. Instead, flags were lowered to half-staff this week for the nearly 15,000 coronavirus victims. The Daily Number Of Coronavirus Deaths Has Fallen In Spain o The daily number of coronavirus deaths has fallen in Spain for a fourth consecutive day, boosting hopes the country has passed the outbreak's peak. Monday's increase of 637 deaths means 13,055 have died in total. The nation has more than 135,000 confirmed cases, the most in Europe, but new infections have been slowing. (English)

The Peak Of The Coronavirus Epidemic in France is Not Stopped Yet o Minister of Heath Olivier Veran sait that “the number of critically ill patients admitted to hospital is decreasing, but we are still increasing” and continue hies words with “It means that we are still in the aggravation phase of this epidemic on the national territory". U.S. Foreign-Policy Experts Call for Cooperation with China on Coronavirus o A large group of prominent American foreign-policy experts, including former high-ranking White House officials from both parties, is calling on the Trump administration to work more closely with China to stem the coronavirus epidemic. (English) o A statement posted on the website of China’s Washington embassy said that the Chinese government was aware that many school and university students had encountered difficulties in travelling back to China and was taking steps to arrange charter flights for those who needed to return urgently. More than a million Chinese students remain overseas, but China is on alert against the threat of imported infections. (English)

Japan To Declare State of Emergency for About A Month o Japan is to declare a state of emergency in Tokyo and six other prefectures as early as Tuesday in a bid to stop the coronavirus, the prime minister said, with the government preparing a stimulus package to soften the economic blow. (English)

Trump Insists On Unproven Drug, U.S. Consumers Fear For Jobs, While Entering “Peak Death Week” o The economic toll of the coronavirus pandemic hit home for Americans last month, as consumers braced for job losses, anticipated spending cuts and grew more pessimistic about their ability to cover their bills, according to data released by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on Monday. (English) o Without citing evidence, Trump said it's a "great" and "powerful" anti-malaria drug "and there are signs that it works on this, some very strong signs." For people without heart problems, Trump recommended combining hydroxychloroquine with azithromycin, a common antibiotic. He said azithromycin "will kill certain things that you don't want living within your body." Yet there is little reliable evidence that the drugs -- either alone or in combination -- are effective at treating the novel coronavirus. (English) o The governors of New York, New Jersey and Louisiana pointed to tentative signs on Monday that the coronavirus outbreak may be starting to plateau in their states but warned against complacency as the death toll nationwide approached 11,000, while The United States entered what an official called the “peak death week” of the coronavirus on Monday while a watchdog report said hospitals were struggling to maintain and expand capacity to care for infected patients. The U.S. death toll, which topped 10,000 on Monday, was rapidly closing in on Italy and Spain, the countries with the most fatalities to date at nearly 16,000

Boris Johnson Taken To Intensive Care, UK Foreign Minister Says Too Early To Consider Lockdown Exit Strategy o Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to intensive care in hospital after his coronavirus symptoms worsened, Downing Street has said. Mr Johnson has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise for him, a spokesman added. The prime minister, 55, was admitted to St Thomas' Hospital in London with "persistent symptoms" on Sunday. (English) o It is too early to consider a strategy for exiting the coronavirus lockdown, the foreign secretary has said. Dominic Raab said the current measures were "beginning to work" - but shifting focus could mean "we won't get through the peak as fast as we need to". Asked during the government's daily briefing when the current social distancing measures could be lifted, the government's chief medical adviser, Prof Chris Whitty, said it must first establish when the peak of the epidemic will come. (English) o Robert Jenrick told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that local councils should be "very judicious" in taking such a step. Downing Street said the "overwhelming majority" of the public followed social distancing rules over the weekend. European Markets Close Sharply Higher o The pan-European Stoxx 600 provisionally closed almost 3.8% higher. DAX increased 5.77%, FTSE 100 increased 3.08% as CAC 40 increased 4.61%. (English)

Wall Street Soars on Hopes of Slowing Coronavirus Deaths o U.S. stocks rocketed higher on Monday, with each of the major indexes rallying at least 7%, after a fall in the daily death toll in New York, the country’s biggest coronavirus hot spot. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1,627.46 points, or 7.73%, to 22,679.99, the S&P 500 gained 175.03 points, or 7.03%, to 2,663.68. (English)

Babcock Will Make 10,000 Ventilators o Defence firm Babcock has said it will be manufacturing 10,000 ventilators to help deal with the coronavirus crisis. The plan comes nearly two weeks after Dyson said it had received UK government order for 10,000 ventilators. The move came as tech giant Apple, best-known for phones and computers, said it would start making face shields for medical workers. (English)

GlaxoSmithKline Partners with Vir for Potential Covid-19 Treatment o British drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline Plc will invest $250 million in Vir Biotechnology Inc and collaborate to develop potential treatments for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. (English)

UK Drivers Win First Round in VW 'Dieselgate' Case o Thousands of UK motorists have won the first stage of a High Court action against Volkswagen over the installation of emissions cheating devices in its diesel vehicles. It follows a preliminary hearing in December, when the court was asked whether software installed in the cars was a "defeat device" under EU rules. Volkswagen said it was "disappointed" and said may appeal the decision. (English)

Coronavirus: New UK Car Registrations Plunge By More Than 40% o New car registrations for March saw a steeper fall than during the financial crisis, according to the motor industry. Data from the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show a drop of 44.4% compared with last year. March is usually one of the strongest months of the year for the car industry. But the Covid-19 outbreak has taken a heavy toll, forcing potential customers to stay at home for the past fortnight. (English)

Dutch Football Body Sets Up Coronavirus Relief Fund o The Dutch football association (KNVB) on Monday set up a relief fund to help amateur and professional clubs in the Netherlands recover from the coronavirus pandemic's negative impact. "The donations of the Orange [Netherlands national team] players and ING focus on amateur football, the KNVB offers support to both professional football clubs and amateur associations. It concerns a combination of donations, measures and grants representing a total of 11 million euros ($11.8 million)," the KNVB said on its website. (Turkish)

Quarantine and Hardship in Australia Make Players More Mature, Says China Women's Team Coach o The Chinese women's football players grew and became more mature after they came through unexpected quarantine and hardships to play an inspiring Olympic qualification campaign, said Jia Xiuquan, head coach of the Chinese side. Liverpool: Premier League Leaders Reverse Furlough Decision & Apologise To Fans o Liverpool have reversed their decision to place some non-playing staff on temporary leave and apologised to fans. On Saturday, the club said they were going to apply to the government's taxpayer-funded job retention scheme, sparking a fierce backlash. But in a letter to their fans, chief executive Peter Moore said: "We believe we came to the wrong conclusion last week and are truly sorry for that."
