Death Toll in Turkey Rises By 96 to 908 People o Health Ministry of Turkey has declared 96 more people in Turkey lost their lives due to the coronavirus, raising the total death toll to 908 people while the number of cases increased by 4.056 to 42.282. (Turkish)

Interior Minister Soylu: 138k Citizens in Quarantine o Suleyman Soylu, Interior Minister, was the guest of a television programme on Star TV. “Right now, 122.500 citizens are in quarantine in 180 different settlements and the number raises to 138 thousand when citizens at dormitories are included,” he said. Health Ministry’s Warnings for Indoor Offices And Workplaces Against Covid-19 o The leaflet provided by the Health Ministry to the indoor offices and workplaces to inform people about the precautions against the coronavirus suggests that there should be distance of at least one meter between the employees and employees should wear a mask. Interior Ministry Shares an Additional Circular Letter For Ban On People Aged 20 And Below o Interior Ministry has sent an additional circular letter to 81 provincial governorates which include exemptions concerning children and teens with “special requirements.” The circular letter envisages that children and teens, aged below 20 and have special needs, will be allowed to leave their homes under proper conditions. Free of Charge Masks to Be Delivered By Pharmacies In Istanbul o Istanbul Chamber of Pharmacists said that a deal was reached between the Health Ministry and Turkish Pharmacists’ Association on distributing masks from pharmacies. According to the chamber’s statement, pharmacies in Istanbul will distribute masks free of charge to people aged between 20 and 65. (Turkish)

Economic Activity Is Declining in France o The coronavirus is causing a drop in a third of France’s economic activity, confirms INSEE. The country entered into recession. Industrial activity is down 44% and some service activities are stalled. (French)

Canada Lost a Record One Million Jobs in March o The data, released by the federal statistics agency on Thursday, also pushes the unemployment rate to 7.8%. March saw the largest loss of jobs in a single month since the records began in 1976. There have been 19,290 confirmed cases in Canada and 436 deaths, according to figures from John Hopkins University. (English)

Johnson’s Health Improving, Lockdown Continues, UK Death Toll Rises o Boris Johnson’s health continues to improve in hospital, Downing Street has said after the PM spent his third night in intensive care. A No 10 spokesman described the prime minister as being in “good spirits” as he continues to receive care in St Thomas’ Hospital, London. Mr Johnson is being given oxygen, having contracted coronavirus. (English) o People should follow the government's coronavirus rules and stay home over the Easter weekend, as warmer weather is forecast across parts of the UK. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said the UK was "just beginning to see this strategy starting to work" and people needed to "stick with it". (English) o The UK death toll for coronavirus has risen to 7,978, according to the first secretary of state - an increase of 881 from the day before. Dominic Raab said on Thursday more than 65,000 people have tested positive for Covid-19 to date. Meanwhile, around 16,700 people have been admitted to hospital with coronavirus symptoms. (English) o The government's £750m package to support charities through the coronavirus pandemic will not be enough to prevent some being forced to close, organisations have warned. While many charities welcomed the funding, some said more was needed. Charities have seen their income shrink because of enforced shop closures and cancelled fundraising events. (English)

ECB Takes Action to Keep Banks Lending During Virus Crisis o The European Central Bank took more emergency action Tuesday to keep credit flowing to companies in the 19 countries that use the euro by easing its rules for lending to banks that serve those businesses. (English)

Oil Jumps 12% o Oil prices jumped as much as 12% on Thursday on reports that Saudi Arabia and Russia had reached a deal on a deep output cut, according to Reuters which cited two sources, and that the cuts could reportedly be as high as 20 million barrels per day. OPEC+, would reportedly cut output by 12 million barrels per day, according to Reuters, with an additional 5 million barrels per day cut by producers outside of the group. (English)

Increase in European Stocks o European markets closed sharply higher today with shares in London leading the region. The FTSE 100 is up 2.90% while Germany's DAX is up 2.24% and France's CAC 40 is up 1.44%. (English)

Foreign Investment Rises in First Quarter o By the end of March, Shanghai had accumulated US$264.2 billion in foreign investment. In the first quarter, the paid-in value of foreign investment topped US$4.67 billion, an increase of 4.5 percent year on year. McDonald's Sales Have Plunged Because Of Coronavirus o McDonald's was enjoying a great start to 2020 but that all changed once the covid-19 pandemic hit Europe and the United States. The fast food giant reported Wednesday that sales at restaurants open at least a year plunged more than 22% in March, led by a nearly 35% decline in its internationally operated markets. (English)

Disney+ Is Almost Near Its Subscribers Goal Four Years Ahead of Schedule o Disney+ now has 50 million paid subscribers globally. Ferrari Challenges Corona o FERRARİ has signed an agreement with the health authorities of the region where its factories are located, a plan to guarantee the safety of workers. Airlines lobby to rewrite carbon deal in light of Coronavirus o Airlines are lobbying to rewrite the rules of a global agreement (Corsia) designed to tackle aviation emissions. Airlines have to pay to offset any growth in CO2 emissions above a baseline set by the average emissions of 2019 and 2020. However, the coronavirus outbreak is making it difficult to stay on the baseline, as it currently reduces carbon emissions significantly. In this regard, airline companies state that if a new regulation is not made and the costs are too high, some countries may withdraw from the agreement and this is a ''matter of survival'. (English)

Belarus’ Offer to Gazprom o Belarus has sent Russian gas company Gazprom proposals on the possibility of buying part of Russian gas not under long-term contracts, but on exchange platforms at competitive prices. (Russian)

World Meteorological Organization Warned: Covid-19 Casts A Shadow Over the Accuracy of Weather Forecasts o The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) stated that before the Covid-19 era the Global Observation System took around 700,000 daily readings through commercial airlines from the 193 member countries. The decrease in air traffic levels in the world due to COVID-19 measures causes also the traffic readings used in weather forecasts to decrease by 85 to 90 per cent. Subsequently, WMO warned that the reliability of weather forecasts worldwide may gradually decrease, including early warning services for natural events such as tornados and storms. (English)

Can We Finish the Corona by Just Washing Our Hands? o In many parts of the world, clean fresh water isn’t guaranteed. Therefore, it has been known that countries without a reliable system of supplying water to everyone are likely to be more vulnerable to infectious diseases. The World Bank reported that around 75% of people living in rural areas live in homes that lack adequate facilities for hand washing and nearly 2.2 billion people are currently living without safely managed water outlets. The situation remains serious especially in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia regions. (English)

The study revealed that even the slightest increase in pollution levels in the pre-epidemic years increased the mortality rate by 15%. A report prepared for Italy, noted that there were higher mortality rates in the northern part of the country, which has a high level of air pollution.
