Curfew by The Ministry Of Internal Affairs To 31 Cities For The Weekend o Ministry of Internal Affairs has declared curfew for 30 metropolises along with Zonguldak starting from 00.00 on Saturday until April 12 at 24:00. (Turkish)

The Turkish Government Orders Millions to Stay Home in Sudden Lockdown o The Turkish authorities on Friday ordered a two-day lockdown on just hours notice for 31 provinces across the country, as Turkey’s death toll from the coronavirus pandemic climbed above 1,000. Istanbul and Ankara, where international flights were halted and schools and bars were closed, were covered in the order. (English)

Death Toll in Turkey Rises By 98 To 1.006 People o Fahrettin Koca, Minister of Health, has declared 98 more people in Turkey lost their lives due to the coronavirus, raising the total death toll to 1.006 people while the number of cases increased to 47.029. (Turkish)

Entry – Exit Ban To 4 Touristic Districts o Entries and exits with private vehicles have been banned to Ayvalık, Gömeç, Burhaniye and Edremit districts of Balıkesir for the weekend. (Turkish)

Fuel Stations to Be Closed in The Night o All fuel and LPG sales stations in Antalya will remain open only during the day. Stations will be closed between 21:00 – 07:00. (Turkish)

Italy Government Extends Coronavirus Lockdown Until May 3 o Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Friday announced the extension of the almost-total lockdown imposed nationwide until May 3, as the hard-hit country continues to fight the COVID-19 outbreak. “This is a difficult but necessary decision, for which I take full responsibility,” the premier said. “We can’t undermine the efforts we’ve done until now… If we give up, we risk having to restart from scratch.” Strict quarantine measures in Italy applied against the new type coronavirus pandemic, which have been applied for 1 month, have been extended until May 3. US Deaths Topped 16400, Fauci Says Too Early to Relax Restrictions, US Consumer Prices Fell o U.S. deaths due to coronavirus topped 16,400, according to a Reuters tally, although there are signs the outbreak might be nearing a peak. U.S. officials warned Americans to expect alarming numbers of coronavirus deaths this week, even as there was evidence that the number of new infections was flattening in New York state, the epicenter of the U.S. outbreak. (English) o The top U.S. infectious disease expert warned on Friday that even though hardhit spots like New York are showing positive results in the battle against the coronavirus, it is too early to relax restrictions on Americans. U.S. consumer prices fell by the most in more than five years in March and further decreases are likely as the novel coronavirus outbreak suppresses demand for some goods and services, offsetting price increases related to shortages resulting from disruptions to the supply chain. (English) U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that American airlines must be saved, as his administration prepares to give them details this weekend about the terms of a $32 billion payroll grant to offset the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. (English) Images have emerged of coffins being buried in a mass grave in New York City, as the death toll from the coronavirus continues to rise. Workers in hazmat outfits were seen stacking wooden coffins in deep trenches in Hart Island. Officials say burials are being ramped up at site, which has long been used for people with no next-of-kin or families who cannot afford a funeral. (English)

Johnson Must Rest Up, UK Lockdown Restrictions by Age, The English Find Lockdown “Extremely Difficult” o Boris Johnson "must rest up" after he was moved from intensive care with coronavirus, his father has said. "He almost took one for the team and we've got to make sure we play properly now," Stanley Johnson told the BBC. (English) o The UK's coronavirus lockdown restrictions will likely be lifted for certain age groups and areas of the country first, one of the top scientists advising the government has said. Speaking on Friday morning Professor Neil Ferguson of Imperial College London said that "measures will be targeted probably by age, by geography". (English) o The last thing UK business needs in the current economic climate is a "chaotic exit" from EU trading rules, Labour's new shadow chancellor has warned. Anneliese Dodds urged ministers not to put "ideology over national interest". The UK has left the EU but has given itself until 31 December to negotiate a trade deal, until which time most EU rules will still apply. (English) o After almost three weeks of life in lockdown, a survey suggests a significant minority of people in the UK are finding it "extremely difficult" to cope. The research, conducted by King's College London and pollsters Ipsos Mori, finds 15% of the population already say they are finding the restrictions very challenging and another 14% expect they will be unable to cope within the next month. Coronavirus Outbreak Gives Public Health in China the Push It Needs o Whether it’s new policies and capital, or even a new school, the coronavirus pandemic has intensified efforts in China to improve management and development of public health. Authorities called last week for greater issuance of local government bonds to support a variety of projects, including those in public health. (English)

2011 Cases, New Measures to Be Implemented in Greece o Greece reported a total of 2,011 cases of confirmed coronavirus infections. (English) o In North Greece and particularly in Thessaloniki and Kavala the local authorities request the citizens not to throw masks, gloves and moist sanitize towels to roads and home drains in their efforts to manage the waste disposal. (Greek) o It was officially announced that in Thessaly region all the vegetable markets will be closed until the end of the corona crisis and the street trade will stop, as two street vendors were found positive to Covid-19. A Roma settlement located near the city of Larissa in central Greece, has been placed on lockdown, after 20 people tested positive for Covid-19. According to local authorities if they don’t comply with the lockdown the army will take over. (Greek)

Restriction on Alcohol Sales in Russia; Mortgage & Child Support; o Russia has recorded 11,917 coronavirus cases at total and 94 deaths. (Russian) o Russia’s government has completed the transaction on purchase of 50% of Sberbank shares from Central Bank for $29 billion. (English) o Ministry of Industry and Trade: restriction of alcohol sales may lead to an increase in the shadow market. (Russian) o In Moscow, the benefit support for children at the age from 3 to 7 will be 7613 Rubles per month. In addition, disabled Muscovites will be able to apply for benefits without taking into account past income and current unemployment benefits. (Russian) o Moscow will soon announce a digital pass system to enforce coronavirus lockdown rules as soaring hospitalizations strained the city’s healthcare system. (English) o The fight against coronavirus will be the main agenda of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) summit which will be held in the form of a video conference on April 14. (Russian) o Russian PM, Mr. Mishustin announced that the government, amid coronavirus, is increasing support for Russians with mortgage loans and decided to raise the maximum loan amount for mortgage vacations. 10 EU Countries Urge Bloc to Pursue 'Green' Coronavirus Recovery o In an open letter published by European finance ministers, who met by video conference, from Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, Latvia and Luxembourg, and environment and climate ministers said any rescue package should support the European Commission’s Green Deal strategy to embrace a low-carbon future. In this open letter, published on April 9, there is a warning that we should not focus on short-term solutions when dealing with the crisis. (English)

Turkish stocks up 0.66% at weekly close o Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the week at 96,470.97 points, rising by 0.66% from the previous close. Media reports claiming talks between Turkey and the G20 countries, including the U.S., for securing swap line seem to have buoyed investors. Starting Friday at 96,201.31 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started earning 636.53 points as of daily close from Thursday's close of 95,834.44 points. (English)

Covid-19 Effect on Entrepreneurs o Retail giant Amazon says it will build its own coronavirus testing lab to monitor the health of its staff. (English) o Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, speaks to the FT about the global fight against coronavirus and stated that outbreaks like coronavirus may occur every 20 years. (English) o Alphabet Inc.’s Wing unit is seeing a dramatic increase in the number of customers using its drone delivery service in rural Virginia during the Covid-19 pandemic. The company currently serves in the USA, Austria and Finland. (English) o Ecording, a Turkish start-up, announced that it will establish #stayhomeforest by throwing 250 thousand seeds with its drones. (Turkish)

Legendary Turkish Goalkeeper Recovers from Coronavirus o Former Turkish international goalkeeper Rustu Recber who was tested positive for coronavirus about two weeks ago has completely recovered. "Rustu has tested negative for the coronavirus, fortunately," his wife Isil Recber said on social media on Friday. Recber, 46, who went to the hospital on March 29, is an icon who played for Istanbul powerhouses Fenerbahce and the Turkish National Football Team. (English)

The Covid-19 Crisis and Climate Lobbying o The Covid-19 pandemic has required dramatic action on a global scale to limit its toll on human health. This, in turn, has led many governments to make massive, rapid disbursements of financial aid for individuals and businesses. Corporate lobbyists have been highly active in this corona chaos. However, another trend emerging relating to the climate emergency is the use of the Covid-19 crisis by lobbyists to advocate in a manner counter to the Paris Agreement. The oil and gas sector appears to be the most active in these lobby areas on a global scale, demanding both financial support and liberalization in response to the Covid-19 crisis. (English)

People on Hunger Strike Over Fight Against Covid-19 o The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization reported that even before Covid-19, 113 million people around the world were fighting against food insecurity. Moreover, especially in fragile countries, as the number of infections grows among already malnourished populations a "crisis within a crisis" could emerge, in which the health crisis will be compounded by a hunger crisis. Secretary General Guterres: An End to Violence Against Women Is A Main Part of Covid Measures o United Nations Secretary-General Guterres stated that the focus of the joint efforts to overcome the pandemic is not only a global ceasefire, but violence must end everywhere. He said that for many women and girls, the threat looms largest where they should be safest: in their own homes. In this regard, he called for the prevention of violence against women to be one of the main parts of the fight against Covid-19. (English)
