Greetings Tanglers! Finally getting around to the Winter issue of this newsletter! It seems every time I went to work on it another project needing my immediate attention came my way. It’s a good thing I love my work with Tombow as I get to work my passion. What do I do after a full day in the studio? Well, Zentangle of course! It’s usually my reward to myself for getting projects done during the day! I would also like announce that my Daughter Katelyn Brewer will be taking over fulfilling my Zentangle orders. She is at home for a year on maternity leave because of this little beauty; Lucy Diana born Jan. 1 2013. We are now also using PAYPAL for payment to make it much easier for you to replenish your Zentangle supplies.

More in-depth look into adding color to Zentangles using Tombow Dual Brush Pens and Irojiten Colored Pencils. The different projects will feature different color techniques, design styles and color themes. Dr. Seuss’s Garden Bookmarks This was a bookmark exchange I participated in with other Zentangle teachers. They were created on a 9” x 12” watercolor paper panel, colored with Tombow markers using the watercolor method and then cut into four - 3” x 9” bookmarks. I used Dr. Suess quotes for these fun and inspirational pieces.
Here’s another way to use your Zentangle skills - by decorating lettering! I used a Tombow Glue Pen to draw the tangles in the letters before coloring with the Tombow markers. The Glue Pen resists the color and creates the white lined tangles.

z e n t a n g l e news from marie Travel Tangles I am very lucky to be married to someone who loves to travel! We also get the opportunity to travel with his hobby of coaching Lacrosse. I always travel with a sketchbook and take many photos to help inspire new tangles and strings. It’s also very interesting to see historical patterns in the museums. Scott gets a chuckle when I furiously sketch patterns where they don’t allow cameras!
Italy is one big Zentangle! This photo of a floor of a candy shop in Rome inspired this Zentangle.

This is a photo of an early medieval manuscript from the 5th Century - just to illustrate that Zentangle is nothing new! I took this photo in the medieval town of Tallinn, in Estonia.

z e n t a n g l e w o r k s h o p s in your space Workshops for beginners and those interested in a fun evening learning this fascinating art form of repetitive strokes. No drawing experience is needed, just enthusiasm and a desire to tap into your creative side! This workshop is available in your home or office in the Greater Victoria area, Western Communities or Sidney with no additional travel expenses applied. You pick the date, you organize and host. Must have a minimum of 6 participants (including yourself). You determine the maximum number according to your space available. Cost per person for a 2-hour session is $30 and includes all materials. The class kit includes: 5 tiles, 1 Pigma Micron pen, 1 pencil, 1 tortillion in a reusable pouch. Host or Hostess receives workshop for material cost of $10. If you are interested in a workshop, please email me and I will put you on the list. I will be planning the first workshop for May 2013. Cost for the workshop will include a small room rental fee.
