Artist Statement

My interest in Illustration comes from a lot of different sources, but ultimately stem from a love of nature. There is nothing truly perfect in nature, like there is in precisely man-made objects. I love the delicacy in dainty flowers that are contrasted with bold and strong colors. I try to capture that in my work, while keeping professional technique in my products. The diversity I have working with nature gives me great comfort knowing I am never stuck to one subject or species. There are endless kinds of fauna for me to satisfy my need for something new. In my artistic journey, I have found a way to bring my passion for art into something I can sustain myself with, while also finding fun in the projects I do (personal, work or otherwise). My objective is to produce something I am proud of, no matter the projectsometimes to a fault, but my perfectionism and attention to detail is what attracts a lot of my viewers and business. I put my own personal taste into the art I create for others, and my work tends to be easy to spot by those who are familiar with it.

Dedicated to the FAUNA of the worldwith a special thanks to the two souls with four paws that light up my world on even the darkest of days.

The drawings are linework that I place color on top of, usually from a planned color palette I create. I sketch on paper and convert the drawing digitally, or sketch in Photoshop itself while looking at pictures of plants and animals as reference and inspiration to create the linework. I will use hatching and light line weight differences to denote things like form, depth, light, and texture. My lines are placed naturally, and are created from my years of researching animal anatomy and other artists technique, supplemented with photographs. I tend to sketch loosely so that I can keep a fluidity to my work, trying to get the right shape or stroke on the first try as if it were a painting. Once I get to the finished product, sometimes a collage of multiple drawings, it looks completely different from where I originally began (unless it is a commissioned piece). Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference. - Jane Goodall
