LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT community history. LCB sessions provide participants with an overview of the accomplishments and challenges facing Council Bluffs through presentations, discussions, behind-the-scenes tours, interactive experiences, and networking with community leaders. LCB class members explore the challenges Council Bluffs is facing and are inspired to take responsibility and action for providing necessary leadership. In addition, participants will enhance their personal leadership abilities, enrich their teambuilding skills, and have the opportunity to learn more about philanthropy through a partnership with the Community Foundation for Western Iowa and Omaha Community Foundation. The participants in the LCB will also be required to complete a Community Trustee Project. “The objective of the Leadership Council Bluffs program is for participants to improve their leadership potential through community engagement and to assume greater responsibility on boards and commissions,” said Lori Shields, vice president of communications and leadership development for the CB Chamber and program director for Leadership Council Bluffs. “The Leadership Council Bluffs program has a strong history, and we are looking forward to unleashing the potential of Class 35.”
YOUTH LEADERSHIP COUNCIL BLUFFS
Youth Leadership Council Bluffs (YLCB), a program of the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce, is designed to develop and educate youth to become socially minded, active young adults. YLCB is designed to create a two-fold investment. Community members and stakeholders invest in the development and education of youth by lending guidance to learn about community leadership. In turn, youth become invested in the community because of their experiences and the relationships established during the program.
This 9-month leadership program invests in area students by teaching them about community-minded subjects including leadership, teamwork, government, heritage, health and human services, economic development, education, and more.
“The main goal of YLCB is to provide area youth with interactive experiences that build connections to the community,” said Lori Shields, VP of communications and leadership development for the CB Chamber.
Thirty students from Pottawattamie County have been selected to participate in the program this year. The West Gate Bank Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Laura Burford as Senior Vice President, Correspondent Lending. Burford brings more than 25 years of experience in banking and mortgage lending to her new role at West Gate Bank. As Senior Vice President, Correspondent Lending, Burford will lead and develop the correspondent and broker sales team, identify and develop new correspondent and broker relationships, and maintain and expand existing client relationships. In addition, she will aid the department in achieving sales and customer service goals, oversee product development and assist in the development of client policies.
Originally from Elkhorn, Nebraska, Burford received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Bellevue University. In 2016, she graduated from the Nebraska Bankers Association Leadership Program and in 2019, earned the Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation from the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Andrew Sigerson, Founding Partner of Legacy Design Strategies took the position of President with the Omaha Estate Planning Council on June 1, 2022. A lifelong resident of Omaha, Andrew has over 25 years of legal experience, focusing his practice on estate and business planning since 1999. He has lectured across the country on an array of estate planning and business law topics, in addition to co-authoring books on estate, business, and farm planning. Andrew is a former White House intern, a member of the Presenters Circle for the Omaha Performing Arts, a board member at Camp Rivercrest, an advisory board member for First Westroads Bank, and an Eagle Scout. Andrew and his wife Chrystal have four children.
