DAVIDSON, AN ADVOCATE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The winding road that leads to entrepreneurship can be both exhilarating and a little nerve-wracking, but local serial tech entrepreneur Dusty Davidson said the twists and turns are all part of the journey — which makes success even sweeter.

Starting Out

Believe it or not, the Iowa native and Iowa State University alum never intended to become an entrepreneur. Originally, he aspired to be a software engineer, which is what led him to obtain a computer science degree and begin his work in software engineering and software development at a small company, and later a larger corporation. Both jobs contributed to a new outlook that helped Davidson realize there was more out there for him.

After struggling to find a career in software engineering that fit his desire to work on innovative and cutting-edge projects with like-minded individuals, Davidson was ultimately inspired to follow

an entrepreneurial path.

“I started my first company Brightmix because I wanted to surround myself with amazing people and do really interesting and impactful work,” Davidson said. “I didn’t have any particular idea, so my partner and I did software consulting for a couple of years. Out of that first company — and my first entrepreneurial endeavor — sprung a number of things.”

Next up, Davidson built a software product that eventually became the company Tripleseat, which he grew and scaled. In the pursuit to find other entrepreneurs and people he related to, he started Silicon Prairie News, a blog and website highlighting entrepreneurs and innovators from in and around the Silicon Prairie.

“One after another, things kind of spurred out of that,” Davidson said. “All really driven by this idea of, ‘how do you build innovative and interesting companies in the middle of the country and then find others who are doing that as well?’”

After many years, Davidson stepped away and took some time off before founding Flywheel — managed WordPress hosting built for designers and creative agencies — in 2012. This, Davidson said, was the idea and entrepreneurial endeavor that was his biggest success and the most impactful one in a lot of ways. Over the course of about eight years, Davidson and his partners scaled the company before selling it in 2019, which was the goal all along.

The Next Adventure

As for the last few years, Davidson has occupied his time by mentoring and investing in other entrepreneurs.

“I don’t have as much active involvement these days — it’s more at a higher level trying to help the next generation,” Davidson said. “At Flywheel and Tripleseat, we raised investor dollars over the years and that was difficult to do in Nebraska. So, I have been doing some angel investing to help companies get off the ground. I also sit on a handful of boards for young startup companies similar to Flywheel and lend some operational experience. It is a lot of fun and impactful to be able to help in that way.”

Companies he currently sits on the board for include PetFriendly, a pet wellness company, VidaNyx, a cloud-based eDiscovery tool for child advocacy, and workshop, a digital marketing firm.

Also on his agenda, rejoining the startup community that he used to be deeply involved in by participating in community events, speaking appearances and helping wherever he can.

Over the years, Davidson said the most fulfilling experience has been building teams of extraordinary people who become great friends and co-workers. With the highs of entrepreneurship, Davidson said there have also been some hurdles to navigate — like the constant pressure, stress and challenge of building something new and continuously trying to grow faster.

“As an entrepreneur, you don’t want to run out of money, you need to raise money, hire great people, build the right thing and make sure your customers are happy,” Davidson said. “And you never have enough resources, time or people. I happen to enjoy solving those challenges, but they are challenges nonetheless.”

As for inspiration, Davidson continues to be most motivated by helping people realize their real potential. He enjoys watching people he’s hired in the past make an impact. That carries forward to today in which he said he also delights in betting on a young company based on his belief in its future success.

“It is incredibly exciting for me and something that I enjoy and

think I’m good at,” Davidson said. “I get to watch people realize potential that they maybe didn’t even see in themselves and that is pretty cool.”

Road Less Traveled

In a way, becoming an entrepreneur in Nebraska means going against the grain, according to Davidson. Unlike in other parts of the country where becoming an entrepreneur is much more common, he said there aren’t a lot of examples of people who have chosen to forego the classic path and instead start something on their own in this area.

For aspiring local entrepreneurs who want to make it work in this part of the country, Davidson said networking matters.

“Once you recognize that you’re doing something different, my advice is that you have to surround yourself with people who think the same way that you do,” Davidson said.

“You will probably have to go out of your way to do that. It’s being in that community of entrepreneurs and startup companies that creates the best success long term — whether that is because you have access to more knowledge or connections for money.”

While opportunities may be less available in Nebraska, Davidson said this allows local entrepreneurs to stand out and make even bigger impacts in their community.

The Momentum Accelerates

As a technology entrepreneur who specifically focuses on the world of software and tech-enabled startups and entrepreneurs, Davidson said that while it is never easy to start a company, it is easier now than it ever has been, especially in places where historically it hasn’t been as easy.

“In the past, it was hard to raise money in Nebraska because all of the venture capitalists wanted to stay in places like California instead of coming to the Midwest,” Davidson said. “Well, the world has changed in large part due to COVID, but also the world is just changing to be more global and remote-friendly. So, it is actually a great time to start companies and scale them in places like Nebraska.

“There is more opportunity now to build big and interesting things in places like Omaha and that is fun. It is only going to continue to accelerate and I look at that and get super excited about what is possible for the future.”

I get to watch people realize potential that they maybe didn’t even see in themselves and that is pretty cool.

Midlands organizations are elevating the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. As communities rather than islands unto themselves, entrepreneurs are redefining industries, solutions and even what it means to “fail” in the startup space.

Got a Problem?

“The entrepreneurial climate is much stronger than it was 15 years ago,” said Scott Henderson, managing principal of NMotion, powered by gener8tor.

Henderson described NMotion as a “startup accelerator helping connect founders and early-stage startups con nect to mentors, customers and investors within either our 12-week or 16-week pro grams,” with $100,000 guaranteed invest ments for each selected startup.

“We have seen some great companies grow and succeed, and even more not succeed. Both of which are important, because there is no failure in startup creation, only lessons learned that can be applied in the future.”

He urged entrepreneurs to fall in love with a problem, not the solution.

“Often, you discover what you think is the problem is hiding the actual problem behind it,” Henderson explained.

When you have an idea, Startup Grind Omaha Chapter Director Craig Heron said sharing your idea to reach validation is key. Don’t keep ideas “secret” for long.

“Tell people about it,” he said. “Get feedback. Go to events to get connected into the wonderful community of entrepre neurial supporters in the region.”

Startup Grind is characterized as a perfect resource to do just that. It’s been described as the largest independent startup community engaging with 2 million-plus entrepreneurs. The Omaha chapter is one of about 600 chapters worldwide.

Questions to ask are: Will your product solve a widespread problem? Will some one pay to solve that problem?

If the answer is no, Henderson said shake it off and take it as a learning expe rience. Keep going until you find the real problem.

“Once you do that, find ways to get those people to pay you for the solution,” he said.

“Nothing teaches you more than trying to swell the solution even if it’s just a concept, not a full-blown product or service.”

Sounding Off

Starting a business can often be isolat ing and overwhelming if you don’t have other like-minded individuals supporting and coaching you.

“Starting a business is scary and can often feel lonely,” said Greater Omaha Chamber Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Laurel Oetken.

“You don’t have to do it alone. Lean on others who have been there and have

done it before, or can get you connected to someone who can help.”

Omaha is home to several organiza tions that are local with global extensions, such as EO Nebraska.

EO Nebraska is a regionally- and glob ally-recognized chapter within the Entre preneurs’ Organization network, with 90%

of its members renewing in 2022 — well above the reported average — and one of four chapters worldwide with 100% par ticipation in its EO Matrix platform.

Craig Gubbels, who is the current presi dent, said the most valuable tool the orga nization offers is the forum. The forum is a group of five to 10 owners who meet

at least monthly to discuss all aspects of their lives.

“Learning from the experience shared and deep personal relationships devel oped in the forum has made me far more successful as an owner, husband and father than I would be without it,” he said.

Startup Grind Omaha also hosts month

ly open lunches and happy hours as a way to connect entrepreneurs in less formal settings. Heron said its events regularly have between 50-70 attendees, which is up from 25-30 last year.

“We started Startup Grind Omaha, because we felt there was a gap in the

type of events supporting tech entrepre neurs,” Heron said. “The roadmap looks a lot different for tech entrepreneurs than other types of businesses.”

Pursue Knowledge

Beyond leaning into relationships, con ferences and events can be a great source of knowledge.

For example, in addition to its local networking groups, Entrepreneurs’ Orga

nization also offers learning presentations by speakers like Tony Hawk and Molly Bloom, author of “Molly’s Game.”

Startup Grind Omaha hosts hybrid con ferences and “fireside chats” on a variety of topics. Recent events have included “Rethinking Home Solutions” with Rory Rubin, co-founder and CEO of S.I. Contain er Builds Omaha, and a fireside chat with serial entrepreneur Dusty Davidson.

The Greater Omaha Chamber, as

well as Startup Grind, helped bring back Startup Omaha Week this year, which took place July 25-29. The week offered a dozen key events for entrepreneurs, founders and teams to connect, network, learn, and meet customers and other champions.

“We connected with over 500 individu als from across the metro area, Nebraska and even out-of-state,” Oetken said.

Startup Grind also helped co-host the event.

Oetken also referred to the chamber’s role as a community catalyst and builder of entrepreneurial- and innovation-driven ecosystems; for instance, it is partnering with MIT on the Regional Entrepreneur ship Acceleration Program (REAP) to solve day-to-day challenges faced by founders.

NMotion has created its own ecosys tem that presents ongoing benefits to its startups.

“We’re seeing the benefits of layered wisdom,” Henderson said. “Founders who sold their companies for large profits either start more companies or invest in others.”

Get Started

The timing to start is good “because of the ease of access to capital that exists across the state, the resources that are available through our state government, and the support entrepreneurs can receive through our ecosystem,” Oetken said.

Unfortunately, she said many people have shied away from starting a business because of the uncertainty involved.

“It’s a very hard decision to leave a corporate job or take the leap to start something new, not knowing whether it will succeed or fail,” she said.

Fundraising remains a perennial chal lenge, if not the No. 1 cited problem for founders. However, Heron said there are lots of opportunities for Nebraskans to raise funds.

“The challenge is keeping that funding

flowing,” he said. “So that we can incu bate great companies until they are sus tainable or hit escape velocity to attract financing from national sources.”

Fostering an entrepreneurship mindset at a young age could help break down those barriers for future generations.

“An opportunity for us, looking out five to 10 years, is to invest in STEM career training more,” Heron said. “We need to have many more programs to give students options based on their learning styles and life circumstances.”

He also noted that the Business Innova tion Act is a major opportunity for citizens.

“Through the Business Innovation Act, the state has really stepped up to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Nebras ka in a way that isn’t the case in a lot of other states,” he said. “One of the biggest areas of improvement, which is being worked on, is making sure those oppor tunities are accessible to all Nebraskans, including those in rural and traditionally underserved communities.”

Off Startup Omaha Week, Heron noted the need for the event was apparent.

“It was the type of energy around the entrepreneurial ecosystem we need to keep the momentum going,” he said. “We had a record year of fundraising for startups and many more that have boot strapped so they don’t show up in those reports.”

With the changing economy, Gubbels said there is no shortage of problems that need to be solved or niches that need to be filled.

“Challenges create opportunities and, right now, there are so many opportuni ties for new entrepreneurs to set out and fill those voids with new innovated business,” Gubbels said. “Don’t be afraid to ask other entrepreneurs those tough questions,” he said. “They have most likely been through it and have some great experiences to share.”

I think an entrepreneur is defined by a desire to bring something new into the world. It could be a new product, or it could be solving an old problem in a new way. Entrepreneurs ask to see a problem from a new angle, and then build ideas and solutions that solve that problem in a new way. That work requires a constant cycle of listen & build, listen & build. Listen to what we know about a problem. Build a solution that solves it in a new way. Listen to how it worked. Build the next version. It also requires setting down the assumptions we have about how we’ve solved the same problem in the past. And it requires asking questions like “what if we had to?” There was a time when we all would have rolled our eyes at the question “what if we had to fit this computer in your pocket?” but asking that question brought forth game-changing products.I believe some of the most inspiring entrepreneurs are educators. Classroom teachers are practicing these two ideas. They listen & build. Listen to what their students know and how they connect, and build new ways to reach them and teach them. Listen again to how it’s working, and build again for better results. And they ask, constantly, “what if we had to?” What if we had to teach through a pandemic? What if we had to reach kids in a new way? What if we refuse to give up on any kid? And then they build, listen, and bring forth new ways to solve challenges.

Someone who changes their mindset from making their own life better to making someone else’s life better. The entrepreneurial spirit isn’t about startups or funds or growth. It’s about giving yourself permission to do what you’ve always wanted to do - even if you fail.

It may be shocking to know that, just a short 12 years ago, Nebraska ranked dead last in venture capital dollars invested in the state. As of today, Invest Nebraska, the organization tasked with connecting entrepreneurs and investments, has spurred more than $30 million in seed capital for silicon prairie-grown startups, with the investor engine generating hundreds of millions of dollars in VC activity. In its recently-published 2022 Nebraska Venture Capital Report, Invest Nebraska analyzed the past $1 billion of Nebraska VC between 2012 and 2021.

Invest Nebraska has quantified and qualified progress and traction statewide across multiple ventures, communities and sectors in this report. Notably, it found that between 2012 and 2021 the annual amount of VC grew from $21.7 million to $317.6 million. For comparison, VC dollars were just slightly north of $107 million and, prior to the pandemic, figures sat at around $153 million and $61 million in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Invest Nebraska also reported on the volume of deals behind these dollars. Between 2012 and 2021, deals in a calendar year climbed from 12 to 40. For the three years between 2018 and 2020, the figures were 36, 30 and 28, respectively.

Taking a deeper dive by industry and business type, far and away the biggest industry represented in terms of dollar value was hardware, robotics and advanced manufacturing. This industry accounted for $328.6 million of the past $1 billion in VC fueling Nebraska startups. B2B software followed at $269.6 million, with health care, life sciences and medical devices; fintech and insurance; ag tech; and consumer industries rounding out the balance

at approximately $207 million, $134 million, $41 million, and $20 million, respectively.

When it came to the number of deals by industry, B2B software led the way at 101 deals. The largest industry by dollar value – hardware, robotics and advanced manufacturing – accounted for the smallest number of deals (at 12). Health care, fintech, consumer and ag tech rounded out the 269 deals analyzed and accounted for 53, 43, 31 and 29 deals, respectively.

Anecdotally, or qualitatively, Invest Nebraska also showcased one venture that secured capital in each of the six isolated and analyzed industries. These ventures were: Flywheel (B2B software), Pacha Soap of Hastings (consumer), Birds Eye Robotics of Herman (agtech), LifeLoop (health care), D3 Banking (fintech) and Monolith of Lincoln (hardware, et al).

In an introduction to the report, Invest Nebraska CEO Dan Hoffman emphasized VC’s role in financing the new industry leaders that represent growth and the future of the state’s economy.

“Nebraska’s science and technology entrepreneurs are vital in a world with rapid technological change,” Hoffman said, when asked about key takeaways from the report and sources of pride for the organization. “They often see the potential in novel innovations and newly developed intellectual properties. They cultivate ideas that challenge the status quo.”

Program Director Matt Foley added: “The Nebraska entrepreneurial ecosystem is showing a strong momentum in the number of agtech companies starting up, as well as those that are raising venture capital.”

With more than 4,100 employees in Nebraska and about a dozen locations in Lincoln and Omaha, fast-growing Fiserv – a global provider of payments and financial services technology solutions – is entering its fourth year since acquiring Omaha-based First Data in July 2019.

With corporate offices at 6855 Pacific St. on the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s South Campus, Fiserv is expanding its footprint among its Nebraska operations. The local teams support the firm’s commerce-enabling solutions, account processing and credit card transactions, and payment card functions for some of the world’s largest financial institutions and fintech companies.

George Wehbe, senior vice president and head of output solutions, said the firm serves about 4,000 to 5,000 institutional customers in the U.S., 24/7, 365 days a year.

About 25% of the activity in Omaha comes through the 100 million credit, prepaid and debit cards that are annually personalized in Omaha. Another 65% of the revenue pie is for printing work done for clients. About 2.4 billion envelopes are run per year with 2.7 pages on average per envelope. Printing machines 18-feet wide by 80-feet long represent updated technology that gives Fiserv needed high-

volume efficiencies.

“Our Omaha operations didn’t miss a beat for our clients during the pandemic,” Wehbe said. “We had a business continuity plan in place and tested it yearly.”

Facility Upgrade

About five years ago Wehbe announced an ambitious upgrade project that involved an update to each of Fiserv’s buildings with an addition to the corporate office and three structures in the 7300 block of Pacific Street that includes a print shop, a data center and additional administrative space.

Other facilities being upgraded include a print shop at 805 Crown Point in Carter Lake, Iowa, an Irvington plant used to personalize cards, plus a 400-employee administrative location on Yankee Hill Road in Lincoln.

Wehbe said the facilities upgrade shows Fiserv’s leveraging of its sizable real estate portfolio as a strategic tool to help the firm best meet client needs, serve associates, and achieve set organizational goals that include employee engagement, increased productivity and enhanced client service.

In terms of employee numbers, Nebraska is the largest operation in the Fiserv family, followed by Atlantic, New Jersey, which has 2,500 employees.

Renovations included open space planning, natural daylight and internal lighting improvements, and a more effective balance between private and collaborative workspace. In addition, increased availability of conference rooms, video conferencing spaces and a Tech Cafe for end-user support, centralized training and conferencing center have been included.

Wehbe said between its Lincoln and Omaha operations, Fiserv accepts 30 or more interns annually.

“We’re already finding that the modernization of our locations appeals to them,” he said. “And the commercial areas around our locations make things feel like a San Francisco environment.”

Wehbe stressed that the importance of the Omaha operations cannot be overstated to the growth of Fiserv. The multinational company’s future planning is based on the contributions of the Nebraska workforce.

Divisions within the company include merchant acquiring, account processing and issuer solutions.

that enables participants to engage in two, one-year assignments across one of the business units.

Wehbe said the Greater Omaha Chamber’s Careerockit program has been important in introducing high school students to fintech/tech careers. Firserv’s three Omaha production facilities utilize employees who have training and skill sets taught in Metropolitan Community College’s associate’s technical engineer program.

Community Grants

In June Wehbe announced that Fiserv was rolling out a multimarket corporate community grant project called Back2Business that connects diverse small businesses with critical resources, including complimentary small business-specific coaching, leading technology solutions such as Clover, and community partners to award approximately $1 million in grants to minority-owned small businesses in Nebraska.

The first group of grants awarded went to Ashlei Spivey of Best Burger, Gladys Harrison of Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering, and Tim Collins of TC Lifestyle Fit. All funds have since been allocated, with $10,000 grants going to 100 local small business owners in all.

Wehbe said the local program is part of a global Fiserv initiative in which the company provides $50 million to minority-owned small businesses.

Omahan Shows Curb Appeal

Drawing inspiration from single-handedly remodeling a 50-yearold fixer-upper, Omahan Jennifer Lea officially launched Entry Envy on October 1, 2021, as a means of boosting curb appeal with minimal effort and expense. Fast forward eight months later and the custom sign concept was recognized as the best new subscription service of 2022 by the Subscription Trade Association (SUBTA) and its Cube Awards.

Furthermore, the thriving service is providing a platform for women to consider the trades as a profession.

The founder and CEO recalled being moved to tears during the SUBTA ceremony in early June in Orlando.

“Huge companies like Netflix and the New York Times had just been on stage,” Lea said. “It meant so much to have a renowned organization with thousands of subscription-based business members believe that much in our startup to give us such an honor. I said during my acceptance speech that, ‘I knew I was in the top 5% to even be in that room, let alone to win an award.’”

Lea also noted that acknowledgement from the industry’s most prestigious awards program validated her decision to quit a six-figure job as a single mom with two kids and chase a dream that existed for as long as she could remember: to launch her own business.

“I went back for my executive MBA in 2013 to start a law firm consulting practice,” she explained. “The problem with that was, while I was writing a book about how to manage a law firm and creating my business plan, I realized I was going to build a business I knew I was quite capable of, but I didn’t want to work for lawyers for the next 30 years.”

Lea harnessed the words of a wise woman: “Don’t build a business you don’t want.”

“When the concept of Entry Envy came to me, it felt right,” she said. “It was like the business I had been searching to start for almost 10 years presented itself on a platter. It was going to be up to me to decide whether or not I wanted to eat it.”

Everyday Problem, Elegant Solution

The concept of what would become the only exterior home décor and faux floral subscription service dawned on Lea during the spring of 2021.

Remember the fixer-upper? Well, Lea realized the inside of the house looked amazing. But, out of time, energy and money, she got the biggest oomph for her dollar by painting the garage and front doors and adding modern house numbers (bonus: the numbers would help delivery drivers and guests find her house).

“I knew I would want new decor each month to celebrate all the holidays and seasons, because that’s my thing,” she said. “I quickly realized this little box would be a lot of work to keep in style with the current month, and I would have to over-purchase so much ‘stuff’ each month to fill the tiny space. Then it dawned on me, I could help other busy women simultaneously make their home look beautiful and their life easier. Entry Envy was born.”

Today, Entry Envy has tripled its subscriber volume over the end of 2021.

“The subscription business is a long game, but recurring revenue is a beautiful business model,” Lea said. “We do not require customers to purchase a subscription when they are buying their sign, but 85% do. And 30% of our customers are repeat customers, purchasing additional signs as gifts.”

Lea added that its “churn” rate is less than 3%, extremely low by subscription box standards.

She said she anticipates fourth quarter to be exceptionally busy during gift-giving season.

“Bottomline: Entry Envy is a bootstrapped startup that will likely be profitable 15 months after launching. I consider that a huge win,” she said.

Curb Appeal and Opening Doors

Since everyone has a front door, Lea indicated that its uses and creative applications are abundant and diverse.

“We ship monthly to a 16-year-old boarding school student and to a 102-year-old in a nursing home,” she said. “We have many real estate agents that give our signs as closing gifts and other professionals for customer appreciation gifts and participate in our affiliate program.”

In fact, Entry Envy is actively developing many affiliate and influencer relationships to reach a larger audience.

“I also think we have an untapped opportunity with LinkedIn to connect to real estate agents, architects, builders and assisted living executive directors,” she said.

Ultimately, though, Lea wants Entry Envy to help educate and encourage more women to consider the trades as a noble profession.

“We are already employing several high school students and will continue to hire more,” she said. “I have plans to expand our product lines over the next six to 12 months.”

JOSH BOESCH IS IN THE BUSINESS OF GROWTH

Josh Boesch’s mantra throughout his life has been to leave everything in a better place than when he found it. Always looking to make as big of an impact as he possibly can, Boesch started Boesch Enterprises, a private equity group aiming to acquire businesses.

“For now, my focus is on building out a path for growth,” he said. “And really kind of building out that back office for the organization while I continue to look for the next acquisition.”

Boesch describes himself as a visionary, and Boesch Enterprises has allowed him to continue to grow the scope of companies that he acquires.

Boesch grew up in the small town of Humphrey, Nebraska. His dad owned an advertising and design firm in Columbus, and his mom owned an antique shop. He describes his own parents’ endeavors as giving him an “entrepreneurial itch.”

Finding Passion

After graduating from Creighton University in 2004 with a double major in accounting and managerial information systems, Boesch began working as a CPA and auditor. However, he didn’t feel passionate about it, which led him to recruiting.

“I was making an impact on my clients by helping them find the absolute best fit for the specific job,” he said. “So, helping the general business community, but then, on the candidate side of things, I was impacting people’s lives by just helping them find a smile on their face every day when they went into work.”

Eventually, Boesch decided he wanted to build his own search firm, which he did under the Lutz brand. However, he still wanted to do more, so Boesch Enterprises was born.

“I felt like I could do more having complete ownership and control over any company that I owned. So, I started looking at businesses for sale,” he said.

Although he could have started from scratch, Boesch wanted to look for a pre-existing

company that he could impact and add value to. During his search, he found BJ Shower Door Co., which became the first of several acquisitions to come.

Boesch recently acquired GeoSupport Systems from Thrasher, Inc. Each new acquisition provides new challenges that Boesch has learned to overcome as companies adapt to changes.

“Doing the best that we can to help people through those changes has been critical, and it has been a constant issue,” he said. “You know, I’ll never claim to be perfect at it, but we’ve done a good job of at least keeping our employees happy while they’re impacted by new changes and new challenges.”

Despite the challenges that arise from growing the company, Boesch said what has helped him in this industry is not being afraid to fail.

“That’s the sign of a true entrepreneur, you have to be good at assessing risks and understanding the benefits that can come with those risks,” he said.

Employees First

When looking for new companies to acquire, Boesch focuses on the reputation of the company and its employees.

“At the end of the day, when I purchase a company, really what I am acquiring is that employee base, that team, and so it’s critical to keep that team together and cohesive, understand the strengths and weaknesses and work through those,” he said.

Going forward, Boesch hopes to improve the lives of the employees, as well as create new jobs and seek out opportunities to assist companies going through transitional periods.

CBRE announced today that Kristi Andersen has joined the company as a Vice President in its Omaha office. Ms. Andersen will focus on leasing and sales of office, industrial and retail properties on behalf of landlords, tenants and operators.

Ms. Andersen joins CBRE from Colliers where she served as Vice President, brokering lease and sales transactions for a wide range of property types. In 2021, she executed approximately $26 million in deals. Ms. Andersen also has more than 20 years of experience in public relations and currently runs a communications consultancy, Kristi Andersen Communications. Throughout her career, she’s handled communications, event management and publicity for nationally televised events like the Olympic Swim Trials, NCAA College World Series and world championship boxing.
