MiddleSchoolAdvisoryisaplacewherestudents,parents,andteachersworktogetherforthebenetofthewholechild. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING: LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM WALLS

DuringeachyearoftheMiddleSchoolprogram,ourstudentsandteachersdelveintotheworldbeyondMBSthrough o-campusclasses,visits,trips,communityserviceprojects,andotheroutreachprograms Ourhistoriclocation,adjacentto thepicturesqueFrelinghuysenArboretumandWhippanyRiver,aordstheopportunityforstudentstogetoutsidewhile thelearningcontinues.Meanwhile,communityserviceinitiativesindowntownMorristownallowourstudentstoconnect withtheinstitutionsandsocioculturaldiversityofthearea.Inaddition,weendeavortoplangrade-leveleldtripsthatare anchoredinourcurriculum.

Academic Policies

TheMiddleSchoolprogramrespondstotheuniquedevelopmentalneedsofyoungadolescents.Studentsparticipateina varietyofareasofstudyandactivitiesthatemphasizeactiveengagementinlearning.Oneofthemajorgoalsoftheprogram istocreateaclimatewherecuriosity,integrityandcreativeexpressionarevalued.

MiddleSchoolstudentsarerequiredtocompletevecorecourses,aswellaselectivesandquarterlyclassesinthearts, Wellness,OrganizationalSkills,orEnglishWorkshop.

Student-athleteslearnthevaluesofparticipatinginsportsandphysicalactivities IntheMorristownBeardMiddle SchoolAthleticProgram,studentswilllearntovalueandappreciatehonestcompetitionbasedontherulesofthe game.Student-athleteswilllearntorespectthesporttheyplayandallwhograntthatopportunitytoplay.This includes,butisnotlimitedto,teammates,coaches,ocials,opponents,andfans.

Thetnessprogramincludesspeedandagilitytrainingaswaystoimproverunning/sprintingformandtechnique. Studentslearntoimprovetheirrststepandgainstridelength.Agilitydrillsarealsoutilizedtodevelopoverall quickness.Strengthandexibilityexerciseshelpstudentsbecomestrongerwhilekeepingafocusonbuildingand maintainingexibility.Planks,squats,push-ups,andsit-upsareusedtogainstrengthwithoutusingweights, whileexibilityisachievedthroughexercisessuchasstaticstretchinganddynamicstretchingandyoga
