Dear Members,
The Working Man’s Weekend started with some hot, humid and, at times, wet weather. I will meet with the new Golf Committee to possibly move the event earlier in the year for some cooler weather in 2025.
In Flight One, the team of Tony Trad and Ricardo Samar took no prisoners.
In Flight Two, the team of Roland Gonzalez and Matt Kelly went LOW!! It was birdie-time for these two. In Flight Three, the team of Jorge Kamel and Jonathan Wehrmeister continued their steady play to post a win.
Following the completion of tournament play, the three flight winners went into a sudden-death shootout. Tony Trad had a three-foot putt to win it all and he calmy rolled it in. Tony Trad and Ricardo Samar are the Grand Champions of the 2024 Working Man’s Weekend!!! You can view all tournament results by visiting the tournament website www.mcc2024workingmansweekend.golfgenius.com and enter the following GGID : QH3PN3.
I am happy to announce some new additions to the Golf Department. Jeremy Rocha has joined the Golf Shop staff as our new first assistant golf professional. Jeremy comes to us from helping PGA pro Robert Lindsay at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Jeremy was a fitter as well. Please help me in welcoming Jeremy to the family. Caroly Cantu has also decided to make a career step towards PGA membership. She will be taking on more of an active role with instruction, club repairs and monitoring play on the course. In the golf shop, we are fortunate to have added Karla Barbosa. Karla will be assisting Krista in the golf shop with merchandising and sales. And more importantly, greeting everyone with a smile and making them feel at home.
The driving range has seen some new additions. We recently added new chipping nets to help the golfers improve on the all-important wedge shots. We have added a chipping tube to the putting green for those wishing to hit a few practice chips around the green. The hitting nets took a big hit from the recent windstorms and are being repaired. We are looking at adding one additional net.
Stop by the golf shop to inquire about the Garmin R10 units. Members, come by and sign one out for use during your range sessions. It provides the different parameters serious golfers are looking for. Krista’s Corner
The McAllen Country Club Tuesday Morning League is off to a great start. All 6 courts are full with a total of 24 ladies!
We have reached capacity but that doesn’t mean you can’t play; you can be a sub for the league.
Please call or email the Racquet Center for more information regarding our Tuesday Morning League if you’re interested in being a sub 956-682-3459 / tennis@mcallencountryclub com
We are excited to introduce our newest tennis instructor, Carlos Ramones. Carlos is now available for private lessons, hitting sessions, and drills. We are thrilled to welcome Carlos and look forward to seeing him on the courts!
Need your racquet restrung? Adrian Mijes has over 8 years of experience as a stringer, and he is available to string your tennis racquet the same day if needed.
