Facilitate wholesome and constructive programs with a measurable value to the community. Provide attractive and well - maintained major Parks & Recreation facilities in each sector of the city. These facilities should be within a reasonable distance of every surrounding neighborhood and offer safe opportunities for athletic competition, facility gatherings, and other passive and active recreation activities. REGISTRATION - 2 easy ways to register
ONLINE
Online registration is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day at www.mcallenparks.net. An account with USER ID and password is required to access the system. Create your account online. NOTE: By default, newly created household accounts will appear as nonresident until proof of residency is verified. If you have NEVER registered for a McAllen Parks & Recreation program or are new to the area, you will not have a verified account. To verify McAllen residency, bring one of the following items with you to any of the three community centers listed to the right.
Acceptable identification includes:
• Utility bill for the household such as gas, electric, water or waste removal.
• Phone, television, and internet services bill
• Lease, tax, or mortgage statement with your name on it
• Auto insurance statement
PAYMENT
The McAllen Parks & Recreation Department accepts payment by check, cash, Visa & Mastercard.
RETURNED CHECK POLICY
A $20 service charge will be assessed for all returned checks, and students will be removed from classes until finances are settled.
SATISFACTION GUARANTEE
If, for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with a class or activity, call or visit a community center. In addition to using your feedback to help us improve our programs, we will arrange one of the following.
TRANSFERS between classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting, at no charge. After the second class meeting, transfers may be made, pending space availability, with a charge of $5 per class.
REFUNDS for classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting and will carry a $10 fee per class. Refunds will take 30 to 60 days to process. Requests for transfers and refunds must be in writing. The satisfaction guarantee does not include, adult leagues, contract programs and facility rentals.
PROGRAM CANCELLATION POLICY
The McAllen Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or combine classes as necessary. Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment. Register early to view the best schedule options.

The initial request for accommodation should be made on the program registration form.
MEDICAL POLICY
The City of McAllen Parks & Recreation Department will not prohibit any person from participating in an activity due to a medical condition or handicap, unless such condition is likely to cause injury to that individual or other participants in the activity. A participant who has been notified by a qualified medical professional that he/she has a medical condition that is likely to cause injury to themselves or other participants, is obligated to inform the Parks & Recreation Department, at the time of registration, of the condition and willingly withdraw from the program or activity if requested by the Department. It is recommended that all participants receive medical authorization before participating in these programs
Pickleball

Come and learn how to play the quickest-rising sport in the United States. A faster-paced indoor version of Tennis and Ping Pong. A lifetime sport learned at a young age. You will be taught skills, rules, and multiple ways of playing the game. At the end of each session, there will be a skills competition.
Cheer & Tumbling

Learn exciting cheers and fun tumbling skills. Participate in a new twist of cheers with Pom Poms and Tumbling skills that include balance, flexibility, and lifts. Don’t be left out of all the fun. Each session will end with a cheer and tumbling performance for all adults and children to enjoy.
Rec-Sports

A basic introduction to skills and techniques of popular sports like basketball, flag football, soccer, kickball and so much more! Tennis shoes are required. All equipment needs will be available for all participants. Participants may also choose to bring their gear. Each session will have different sports.
Youth Fitness Intro

Learn how to safely and properly use planes of motion. Equipment used includes resistance bands, hurdles, cones, agility ladders, and jump ropes. Proper ways of stretching and warming up. Improve overall wellness. The session will end with a fitness expo.
Amazing Art Gala

Experience a variety of art mediums to create your very own masterpieces. Every project created is sure to be a one-of-akind piece of art you can enjoy for years to come. At the end of each session you will be able to show of your work in an Art Exhibit for all our students and parents to see and share memories.
Ballet
Join us for our special spin on the classic and graceful art form of Ballet. Participants will learn the positions, coordination, and balance needed to become beautiful ballerinas. At the end of each session there will be a recital for family and friends to come see their children perform.

AMIGOS DEL VALLE - SENIOR MEALS
Participating seniors (60 & Over) are able to partake in a free lunch provided by Amigos Del Valle. ADV is recognized as the largest and most enduring non - profit resource senior service. Elderly Supportive Housing service and home meal delivery service provider of the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. You must be at least 60 years of age or have a spouse who is 60 years of age and attending. Please Bring ID during registration. Everyone must fill out a Meal Registration form on their first day before 10:00 AM. Each meal is a $0.25 donation.
LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM
PARENT/BABY (6 - 18 MONTHS)
Designed to teach parents how to work safely and effectively with their infant to help develop water adjustment skills and learn to have fun in the water. One parent per child is allowed in the water at a time. Swim diapers and swim suits are necessary for infants. No diapers or disposable swim diapers are allowed.
PARENT/TODDLER (18-48 MONTHS)
Reinforces skills learned in the infant level class and progresses to learn more advanced skills age appropriate for a toddler. One parent per child is allowed in the water at a time. Swim diapers and swim suits are necessary for infants.
PRE - SCHOOL (4 - 5 YEARS)
Learn basic water adjustment skills with an emphasis on play to prepare children for comfort in the water for Youth Level 1 & 2. Designed to teach swimmer independence with initial play in the wading pool and progression to the main pool when students are ready.
YOUTH (6 - 13 YEARS)
On the first day of each session, the instructors will assess the participant’s swimming ability by performing a skills test. Based on the test, the instructor will determine the participants class level.
LEVEL 1 & 2
Swimmers will start to learn basic water exploration and swimming skills. This class covers submersion under the water, floating & gliding on front & back, rhythmic breathing, safety skills, and front & back crawls at a beginner level.
LEVEL 3
Designed to build upon skills learned during previous levels. The back crawl will be expanded and the front crawl will be perfected. Swimmers will also learn how to tread water.
LEVEL 4
Designed to build upon the skills mastered at Level 3. Swimmers will develop endurance to swim greater distances. Breaststroke and sidestroke are also taught.
ADULT & TEEN (14 & OVER)
For adults/teens who either want to overcome their fear of the water or for adults that are comfortable in the water, but would like to improve their strokes.
POOL RULES
All swimmers must wear appropriate swim attire: No cut offs, gym shorts or leotards. Board shorts with drawstrings are allowed. Swim diapers and/or swimming suits are necessary for infants. No diapers or disposable swim diapers allowed. Swim diapers available for purchase for $10 at each pool location.Children age 3 and under are free with an adult.Children ages 10 & under must be accompanied by an adult ages 18 & over at all times in the pool facility.
