McALLEN PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT REGISTRATION POLICIES

DIRECTORY OFFICES & SITES

REGISTRATION Walk-in registration will be taken on a first come, first served basis, pending space availability. Register in person at Las Palmas Community Center (1921 N. 25th St.), Lark Community Center (2601 Lark Ave.) and Palm View Community Center (3401 Jordan Rd.) during normal business hours. Walk-in registration is not accepted at the Parks and Recreation Administration Office located on Ware Road. Advance Registration Required. We accept cash, check, Visa or Mastercard. Register online at https:// webtrac.mcallen.net. Visa and Mastercard. are accepted forms of payment online. A $20 service charge will be assessed for all returned checks, and students will be removed from classes until finances are settled. REFUNDS AND TRANSFERS TRANSFERS between classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting, at no charge. After the second class meeting, transfers may be made, pending space availability, with a charge of $5 per class. REFUNDS for classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting and will carry a $10 fee per class. Requests for transfers and refunds must be in writing. Some of our programs, such as Adult Leagues and Facility Rentals, have different, specific policies which apply. The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department retains the privilege of canceling any scheduled activity that fails to generate minimum interest. Refunds will take 30 to 60 days to process.

The Department strives to: Improve the quality of life through the provision of well balanced, high quality recreation programs for the residents of McAllen to enjoy during their leisure time. Facilitate wholesome and constructive programs with a measurable value to the community. Provide attractive and well-maintained major parks and recreation facilities in each sector of the city. These facilities should be within a reasonable distance of every surrounding neighborhood and offer safe opportunities for athletic competition, facility gatherings, and other passive and active recreation activities. Promote environmental conservation, eco and cultural tourism and socially oriented special events.

TOWN LAKE AT FIREMENS PARK FISHING GUIDELINES All persons over 17 years of age must have a current Texas Freshwater Fishing License. Fishing is catch and release only. No casting nets or trout lines allowed. BOATING GUIDELINES No motorized boats permitted. Personal canoes and kayaks are allowed. People in a canoe or kayak must wear a life jacket at all times. RENTAL INFORMATION Pavilion area is available to rent for birthday parties, family reunions and corporate functions. Youth Fishing ContestCamp It’s time again for the 5th Annual Kids Fishing Derby presented by Academy Sports & Outdoors and generously sponsored by Andy’s Marine. Candlelight Posada & Parade A city-wide holiday celebration featuring a traditional Mexican posada, a lighted parade and live nativity. Other activities include holiday entertainment, featuring live music, caroling, food booths, vendors and the annual lighting of the “City Christmas Tree”. Live music performances and demonstrations will take place on three stages (Main Stage, Teen Town, Little Town).
