McALLEN PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT REGISTRATION POLICIES

DIRECTORY OFFICES & SITES

REGISTRATION Walk-in registration will be taken on a first come, first served basis, pending space availability. Register in person at Las Palmas Community Center (1921 N. 25th St.), Lark Community Center (2601 Lark Ave.) and Palm View Community Center (3401 Jordan Rd.) during normal business hours. Walk-in registration is not accepted at the Parks and Recreation Administration Office located on Ware Road. Advance Registration Required. We accept cash, check, Visa or Mastercard. Register online at https:// webtrac.mcallen.net. Visa and Mastercard. are accepted forms of payment online. A $20 service charge will be assessed for all returned checks, and students will be removed from classes until finances are settled. REFUNDS AND TRANSFERS TRANSFERS between classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting, at no charge. After the second class meeting, transfers may be made, pending space availability, with a charge of $5 per class. REFUNDS for classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting and will carry a $10 fee per class. Requests for transfers and refunds must be in writing. Some of our programs, such as Adult Leagues and Facility Rentals, have different, specific policies which apply. The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department retains the privilege of canceling any scheduled activity that fails to generate minimum interest. Refunds will take 30 to 60 days to process.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Department strives to: Improve the quality of life through the provision of well balanced, high quality recreation programs for the residents of McAllen to enjoy during their leisure time. Facilitate wholesome and constructive programs with a measurable value to the community. Provide attractive and well-maintained major parks and recreation facilities in each sector of the city. These facilities should be within a reasonable distance of every surrounding neighborhood and offer safe opportunities for athletic competition, facility gatherings, and other passive and active recreation activities. Promote environmental conservation, eco and cultural tourism and socially oriented special events.

TOWN LAKE AT FIREMENS PARK PICNIC & PADDLE BOAT RIDES

Wind down the week, reconnect with nature, or create a special moment with a loved one by joining us on a leisurely paddle through the 3 acre town lake. Paddle ride includes a short interpretive tour where you can discover the birds, fish and insects that inhabit our neighborhood park. Riders may snack on the water, or bring a simple to lavish picnic lunch to enjoy on land. Notice: No

alcohol is permitted on the grounds. Picnic blankets are available for rental, but limited. Concession snacks may be purchased inside the H20 Hut. Here’s a unqiue way to entertain guests, kids or friends. Rent a kayak, canoe or pedal boat and enjoy the view from Town Lake. Witness a variety of wildlife, fish or just enjoy the scenery. FISHING GUIDELINES All persons over 17 years of age must have a current Texas Freshwater Fishing License. Fishing is catch and release only. No casting nets or trout lines allowed. BOATING GUIDELINES No motorized boats permitted. Personal canoes and kayaks are allowed. Persons in canoes or kayaks must wear a life jacket at all times. RENTAL INFORMATION Pavilion area is available to rent for birthday parties, family reunions and corporate functions. Keith Simpson is a San Antonio native where he was a all-star high school basketball player. He earned an athletic scholarship to Texas A&M International University in Laredo. He was an original member of the RGV Silverados basketball team and member of the ABA League Champions SouthEast Texas Mavericks. He has also played professionally in China.
