These images were taken with minimal light during a time of practicing vigorous yoga and contemplating its core texts. While shooting, I eliminated all external references to photograph a body, solitary in space: to excavate, I suppose, the meaning of that bedrock of Yoga Sutras, Patanjali’s, “Yoga is the cessation of the mind stuff.� To capture us, unmoored from the adhesion of culture, time, place, memory and experience is the impossible goal. What happens when the mind ceases, and there remains that ember, liberated from the shoving of the senses?
